  1. The LOR being submitted 5 minutes before the deadline wouldn't be a problem. They might have concerns about your undergrad, since your background is in Physics and a 3.0 GPA is at the border of what schools look for. At this point it really is useless to speculate on why they didn't give you an admit at NCSU, all you can do is hope for the best at the other schools. Good luck!
  2. The stats that you have there look ok for those schools - how's your undergrad GPA? Stats aren't everything when it comes to PhD admissions - the most important thing they consider is your potential to do research, so your statement of purpose and your letters of recommendation are very important.
  3. I don't think it necessarily means anything, since some schools automatically assign an ID number for applicants. Perhaps they have finished processing your application and it's available for the adcomm to review? Perhaps someone who has direct knowledge of Arizona's system could tell you if it means something specific.
  4. Congratulations on your great offers! You have to be careful in waiting to hear from schools and profs that you have no intention of working with. If you let the profs and schools feel like you might be going there when you know you won't, you run the risk of burning a bridge or two. You should also consider that some top CS schools don't have waitlists. They send out the number of acceptances that would yield roughly the number of places they have. If a school of yours took this approach, you would be depriving someone of an admit, since they wouldn't be sending one to another applicant when you turned them down.

  6. Toronto would be a top 10 program if it were compared with US programs. I'm not sure about the job prospects in Toronto, but it is a fairly big city so I would imagine that there would be good tech industry job opportunities.

  8. I'm not sure about Library Science at all. Perhaps you can ask in the Library Sciences forum: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/63-library-sciences/
  9. Just search the survey on this site for the results from those schools from last year. So from last year,The first acceptances from those school's CS Phd programs were on: ASU - Feb 20 NCSU - Feb 10 (there was a rejection on Feb 2) OSU - Feb 12 UVA - March 12, although there have been acceptances already for this year. Remember that these are just dates that applicants have reported themselves and that the schools may not follow the same pattern this year.
  10. It really depends on your field and the program you're applying to. In some fields an interview is not necessary for admission and can be just a phone call from the prof to make sure your interests align with his or hers. In some fields and programs acceptances are given without any prior interview while at others, you have to attend an in-person interview in order to be admitted. So it varies. What's your field?
  11. It should be typed. As for the space on the application form - do you mean on a paper application form? If so, I would venture to say that it should be ok if you attach it on a separate sheet as long as you stay within the required length (if any) as well as you properly label the extra sheet(s). You could always as the admissions people at your program for confirmation.
  12. As I understand it, usually a RA covers most, if not all your tuition and you get a living stipend - I'm not sure if this is different at your program, you could check it out.
  13. I would accept such a deal if it was the best option for me. You would have to work hard from when you get there to look for funding opportunities, especially RA opportunities - if you were to go there you would have to try to get involved with the research that some profs are doing and then when you needed funding perhaps they would be willing to hire you as a RA. Perhaps you could also ask grad students at that program about how easy it is to get an RA after 2 years.

  24. I'm not hating on you or anything, so don't get me wrong. I just found your post humorous, given that your username is 'wtncffts'
  25. It's true that you can withdraw until April 15, but if you were to do that you risk burning bridges with the profs who are going to be your colleagues in the future. So while there aren't any legal impediments to withdrawing your acceptance before April 15, it's something you probably want to avoid if possible.
