  1. I've thought about doing that but, I wouldn't know what to explain. I'm hoping there are some schools that don't base students outcomes solely on their GPA. ?
  2. I'm being pessimistic about being accepted into a program since my scenario is worse ?. I've already completed a post bacc program...only to end up with a 3.2 GPA. I haven't taken the GRE but I know I'll study really hard for that (because I NEED to). But, now knowing my GPA, I'd like to ask you all if you think I'll be accepted anywhere? I have 2 part-time jobs both in schools. I'm an instructional assistant in a special ed. program in the mornings, and an after school teacher in the afternoons (obviously?). I'm going to begin my observation hours by observing the school SLP (who will (fingers crossed?) be one of my future LOR's). I volunteer in a program that pairs me up with a T.B.I survivor and lastly, I'm going abroad to care for/ teach kids English this summer. I want to do everything I possibly can because I'd hate for my GPA, one portion of the application, to hinder my chances. Which is why I ask you all again, what your thoughts are (opinions/suggestions)? Thanks!?
  3. Glad I've met someone like me! Sorry for the late reply but I'm definitely taking your advice about volunteering. I'm about to start this year long volunteer program that pairs me up with a TBI survior, I'm really excited! Also, I figured out I may be able to retake a couple classes if my school department feels it would make a significant GPA difference (which it would!) My dilemma now is how I'm going to find the time to do all of this during application cycle . I'm considering only applying to schools that don't require the GRE OR applying to schools that have spring admissions. My main focus is the two classes I need to retake. If I apply to schools that don't require the GRE or apply to schools with spring admissions, it gives me additional time to study/take the GRE AFTER I'm done with school. Since I'm on the quarter system, by early-mid December I'd be done with classes and able to focus on just the GRE. What do you think?
  4. Hi everyone! I've been reading these threads for the past year, and now as I'm getting ready to apply for grad school I'm pretty nervous. A lot of people have posted how their undergrad gpa was terrible but there csd gpa was 10x better. I'm the opposite. My cumulative gpa from undergrad was a 3.4 and the last 60 a 3.8. But sadly, my csd gpa after finishing my post bacc program will be around a 3.2. I really planned on retaking some of my post bacc courses, but was told I can only retake courses lower than a C-. Since I didn't get any grades lower than a C- there's not much I can do about improving my csd gpa. I haven't taken the GRE yet but will begin studying for it after I finish my last 2 classes this summer (ending my post bacc program). I'm looking to get opinions on whether or not I still have a chance of getting into grad school? Also, what are some jobs/volunteer opportunities you think would help strengthen my application? Regarding my B.A, I double majored in Child Development and Family Life Education so I have experience working with kids (I've interned for a transition program, have worked in an after school program, and currently work at a school that works with children with behavioral issues). But I haven't done anything specifically related to SLP. If anyone has any recommendations/comments/opinions please send them my way! Oh and lastly, are there any opportunities for volunteering or working with an SLP abroad? I'll be out of school for a year and would really like to travel but also do something related to SLP. Thank you!
  5. I think they send out more than one batch of acceptances! If anything call their office to ask when they'll have the list of names of students that were accepted. Last year we were able to call after a certain day to ask if we were on the list or not.
  6. I think they emailed acceptances the beginning of June last year
  7. Does anyone going to CSULA know what days/times classes will be held?
  8. Stay hopeful! Also, call them this upcoming week. CSULA told me by the first week of June, they'd have a list of the names of people who were supposed to have received an email. NERVE WRECKING I know, but it beats playing the waiting game.
  9. Congrats to you too! We still need to do a 2 year masters program, so we'll be applying next year again. This program is for out of field applicants so I'm assuming all these classes will be prerequisites. I haven't replied to the email yet because I didn't want to come off as too ecstatic haha, but I'll reply by tomorrow stating I'd like to accept this offer.
  10. This is the email I woke up to this morning... " We understand that you have been waiting a while for notification regarding your application to the Speech-Language Pathology Master's Preparatory Certificate Program at Cal State LA, and we apologize for the delay. We are prepared to offer you admission to the Certificate Program at this time. However, before we formally admit you, we need to have some assurance about the number of spaces we will be reserving in the program. As such, you need to reply to this email by Tuesday, June 10th if you still wish to start the Certificate Program in the Fall. If we do not receive your email by that deadline, your application to the Certificate Program will be denied. If you accept this offer of admission by the June 10th deadline, you will receive additional information about the program via email at the end of June. In addition, you will be asked to attend an orientation meeting in August or September. You are welcome to email me back if you have any questions prior to accepting the offer of admission. Don't forget that we must receive your acceptance email no later than June 10th. If we receive it by that time, we will formally admit you to the Certificate Program. " I. AM. SO. EXCITED.!
  11. Really? When I applied my cum was a 3.3. It's a 3.4 now. Futureslp88, thank you for making me feel so much better! lol
  12. I just called CSULA. The lady who answered said we won't find out for another couple of weeks. She also said their looking at our cumulative GPA, not the last 60/90 units and that last year they didn't look at any applications under a 3.6 GPA. Greatttt
  13. Yes that's the website. They probably haven't made a decision for you yet, because before I was denied I would get an email saying my application had not been reviewed. Good luck to you!
  14. Thank you! I don't think LB had a waiting list. Yeah you're right, everything happens for a reason
  15. I checked my application status after seeing your post. I was rejected as well ;/ I'm bummed because I just graduated with my bachelors from CSULB today! But on the other hand, I think I need more experience in the field. I only applied to CSULB and CSULA so I'm crossing my fingers for CSULA..
  16. No :/ But if no one has, that must be a good thing!
  17. Danielle what are your stats? If you don't mind me asking.
  18. I don't mind the changes. Even if it'll take a little longer and cost more money, it will only delay me an extra year. Plus, I'll be able to dedicate more time for studying/taking the GRE and gaining more experience related to the field. I already emailed them saying to still consider my application.
  19. I just got the email too! Seriously had a mini heart attack. Haha. I least they emailed us.
  20. I just called CSULA and the woman I spoke with said they would start sending out emails the second and third week of May! Isn't the second week this week? She also said if we don't receive an email during that time period, we can call the first week of June. They'll have a list of names of those that were supposed to have received an email. Lastly, if we get an email (which might be in our spam folder) we're supposed to reply back by a certain date. Time to get anxious!
  21. I think it's mostly based on GPA. Didn't LB only require a 1 pg. letter of intent? That's all that I submitted with my application. CSULA was the same way too because all they asked was for transcripts. They need to start telling us whether we're admitted or not..
  22. What is everyone's stats? I only applied to CSULB and CSULA, I'm so nervous!
