How many times a day do you click "Results Search"?
whereiscarmen replied to herself the elf's topic in Waiting it Out
I just created a bookmark tab for my browser of all my application log in pages. Now I can access them instantly with just a click of a button. Maybe this will help cure my obsession. But yes, I check the Results Search daily...more than once..nothing wrong with that. I want to see when my programs start making decisions. -
So glad school is next week.

Most annoying part of application process

Why are decisions due on April 15 and not May 1? Some schools don't even tell you their decision by April 15... -
I wouldn't ask teachers who put me down for recommendations. In fact, I keep distance between them..and apply to a variety level of schools just to be safer.
-
And just hope they don't have caller ID and won't try to match up you number with your application.

Most fulfilling part of the application process...

The GRE. And the fact that everything I did might be completely pointless.... grad school is way too competitive. -
So why do schools need to know other schools I'm applying to anyway?
whereiscarmen replied to Anita's topic in Applications
So should we list schools that are higher, similar, or less ranked than the school that is asking this question? -
Here's a link to an article of what some teachers were and were not looking for in the personal statements. Rate Your Students: What do we want students to say in their grad school statements What do you think? What did you do that was good? Bad? Does anyone know if these beliefs are generally true or if people can still get into graduate school with the "ever since I was little" statements? The one part I don't agree with is explaining why you want to study a subject. I don't see what's wrong with saying why you are interested in a subject if you know how to articulate it.

this should be a sticky as well.

Scores now cost $23.

That's why I don't post my stats and schools. I'm afraid I'll be figured out on here.

Does anyone know from past experience whether when you turn in your application influences anything? Like, does turning in your application early mean you're more likely to be accepted? Turning it in by the deadline mean you're more likely to get rejected? Has anyone turned in their application on the last day possible and still got accepted and received funding? Also, what about hearing back? Is it always, the earlier you turn your app in, the earlier you will hear back? And the later you turn your app in near the deadline the later you will hear back?

Although most of my schools require 500 words, a few schools do not give length requirements. For one of these no length schools, I'm already at 1,000 words. I just hope it's not too much. However, one of my schools requires 1,000-2,000 words. So can I assume that for schools without length requirements that 1,000-2,000 words would be okay too?

One of my schools recommended that we address low GRE scores or GPA in our personal statement. How does one do this? (More specially a low verbal GRE score for social science. ) I want to say in real life I will be able to use a dictionary, antonyms don't really matter in the real world, have a bit more time to analyze essays, and can change my answers on tests, but I don't think that's the explanation they are looking for.

I don't think it could hurt.

Schools that won't send the recommendation link until after you submit your full application (personal statement included). What if I wanted to write my personal statement at the last minute? Can't do that with these schools. *hoping these schools send the recommendation link as soon I press submit and not a week after* Schools that won't let you see if they have received your GRE scores, transcripts, fee, and recommendation letters online. And then get mad when you call them and ask if they have gotten your stuff.

Wanting 2 transcripts from every school you went to. Why? Wanting a transcript from every school you went to, when your main school lists all of your grades and classes you took at the school you transferred from and the community college you attended. Why? The online system changing from we received your transcript to we don't have the next day to we do have the next day, etc etc When the sites don't tell you the same information...on one page it says to do this when you turn in your application, on another page it says to do something else. These schools need to update their websites!

Is that why you didn't apply to UVA?

Very helpful! So you don't think applying near the deadline.. especially if it's a January one is always a bad thing? I'm contemplating turning in my app before 2010 and rushing my personal statement a bit, or turning my app in early January, with more time to polish my essay.

Did you hear from a Jan 15 deadline by February 1?
-
Rising star when did you submit your applications?

I also don't mind if I go to my safety school. Ironically, it is the best fit for me overall out of all my schools in terms of what I am looking for in a school.

Missing Essay on Recommendation form
whereiscarmen replied to whereiscarmen's topic in Letters of Recommendation
How was I on a high horse? Did you read some of those responses after your first one from the other posters? Focusing on insignificant details much? lol. But thanks for ending with a positive note. Makes me hopeful. But if you ask who cares about this post, why should we care about any post on this forum? To help others of course! And I also will not look at my SOP once I submit it.
