  1. That is a very good idea. I don't know if anyone saw that independent film on origami ("Between the Folds"), but something like that about committees would be interesting to watch. I am sure there will be a ton of interest outside.
  2. I think this varies also. I do know about the Harvard program only cuz they are open about it. Each of the 5 or so tracks has one or two leads, and they all sit down to make decisions. So I assume anywhere from 7-10 on that committee. I guess the ones with less tracks may have fewer, but I think it varies with schools.
  3. Harvard: 10-20% chance of acceptance Hopkins: 40% chance Michingan: 30-40% chance
  4. I wish I could tell you that you can make the GRE go away if you wish it, but it is rooted in the admissions process. However, it seems you hate the thing........much more than the average student. So if you are not interested in taking it, then you should not take it. if you want to get into the better schools, then maybe you wait out one more year, and practice practice and practice the test. you really need to see the test as something that you can beat up! beat it to a pulp! that is how you should see the whole process..........i just feel the mental approach would be just as important in improving the score as is practicing.
  5. I am not sure I am in the same situation, but I do know a person who boasted about how his LOR would carry the weight to get me into any school. I was not sure how, but I was excited and felt I should trust him. Over time, I realized it is all hot air. We need to depend on ourselves a lot more.......no one will care about your apps more than you. having said that, maybe there are other schools where you can still apply? i am working on my last one and the deadline is Jan 15.
  6. Man, that sounds rough. It is amazing how we could potentially be tossed out for simple reasons -- maybe even by accident.
  7. Nacho! awesome you are also applying. Which program did you apply to at Hopkins? I applied to the health services and policy division. At Harvard I applied to the GSAS health policy program. And still working on the SOP for Michigan. My interests are in information technology and its role in public health. what are you focusing on? its nice to see others with similar interests!!
  8. Does anybody know how admissions committees work to decide? Do they ranks all candidates and give admissions to the top ones? Or do they pretty much allow the most powerful admissions committee members (maybe most research money) to decide? I know nothing about how this works, but it seems from listening to others........the approach is all over the place!
  9. Walk up to the hottest girl i know and kiss her!
  10. I disagree. Very few admissions processes are as painful as medical school admissions, and I do not think grad school admissions are harder. I have finished medical school in the US and am now going for a PhD in health policy.
  11. I think you may want to do the MPH to prove yourself to the grad schools if you are thinking about a Phd. I had problems going to the PhD since I don't specifically have an MPH. For whatever reason, they require an MPH. I have an MHA (Masters in health adm).
  12. Hello All, New to this forum. Anyone out there got into UMich, Harvard, or Hopkins for the PhD in health policy? thanks. would like any feedback about the admissions process..
