This is my 3rd round of applications after my first two rounds were unsuccessful. I've just been admitted to a program! I just want to say don't give up if you don't succeed on the first or even second round.

I’ve been admitted to a program...how do I inquire about funding?

Ok -
I was admitted to a MA program today, but no info regarding funding was included in the admit letter. The grad school website lists grad assistant ships, fellowships, and scholarships as its sources of funding (some are institutional and some are external). Website says to contact specific department for info on availability. How should I inquire about funding? Just write something like “hello, I’ve been admitted to XX program and I’m interested in finding out more about assistantship and other funding opportunities?”

Would this informal Skype session be used at all in the decision-making process? The prof and I (someone I want to worked with) chatted for about 50 min.

Anyone else applying to these programs?

This year, just MSU, Oregon State, Maryland, and USF. -
School invited me for visit, but I'm abroad

I’m scheduling a Skype session with one of the profs in lieu of attending the visit day. I have no idea what to say! I don’t know what questions I should ask since a lot of the general info can be found on the website. -
Maybe we can be "waiting buddies" or something haha. This year I applied to: University of Maryland, applied anthro MA University of South Florida, applied anthro MA Oregon State, applied anthro MA Mississippi State, anthro MA w/ applied focus

It’s just a visit, no interview or admission offer -

The dept. knows that I’m abroad. It would also be difficult for me to leave my job and fly across the world for just a few days. I’d also need to pay for lodging and food. I wouldn’t be able to make it work for an open house visit that every applicant is invited to. It’s at Mississippi State. Flight delays are likely so I’d probably spend 2 days getting to the US and I’d get just a day with the department. Plus a round trip ticket would probably cost $2000. -
Is it acceptable to decline a visit if I'm abroad? Just wondering. They even have an app where you can get up to $500 to visit, but that would not cover a one-way ticket for me.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'll be working in China until July, however, and a lot of summer stuff starts long before I'll return to the US.

This is my 3rd application round. I hate waiting!

So I just got an email from one of the programs that I applied to saying that my official GRE score report was missing. I did have an official score report sent weeks ago however AND I got an email on the 8th from Graduate Admissions (not the Department) saying that they HAD received my official report. The application deadline was the 15th so I'm kinda freaking out. They told me that I had until Jan. 3rd to send the scores. I emailed back saying that Grad admissions confirmed that the report had been received on the 8th, but otherwise that I could take a screenshot of my scores on ETS. Do I need to worry about this? It kinda caught be off guard because I submitted my app more than a month ago and sent my scores like 3-4 weeks ago. **Edit: The program specialist emailed back and said that it was probably a case of the grad admissions not forwarding it to the department and that "sending a screenshot would be very helpful." Also, question: why would they rather have a screenshot of my ETS page over waiting for the grad admissions to forward the official report?

For those who attend programs far away from family...

Yeah I get that. My car was very cheap. I need it in my hometown though. -

I wish the US had better transportation services, like bullet trains or something. In college I did Megabus, but that route from Chicago was actually cut from the line a few years ago. I'd have to take a bus to Chicago and then either fly or take a train. I have a car. It's sitting in my parents' garage. -

45 hours? That sounds like HELL. May as well fly for that price, too. -

Ok. I applied to schools in Oregon, Mississippi, Maryland, and Florida. Chicago is my nearest Amtrak hub. In college I would take the Chicago Amtrak train to my home city in Michigan, and it was often late/delayed. If I end up attending one of the schools that I applied to, I'd also need reliable ways to get to the stations, which might be far. -

Yeah, I’d rather take a train than drive. Train is also probably cheaper than flying. -
Some MA programs offer tuition waivers and assistantship stipends. Anyone know the approximate proportion of MA programs that do this? I know of someone who got accepted to a MA program at Columbia and her tuition waiver was either 25% or 50%. I know for a fact that other MA programs offer full tuition waivers. I’m abroad too! Where are you? Im in China until July. Long time...I’m trying to engross myself in the online world because China will be lonely once everyone leaves for the semester break. I’m staying.

Hey all. This is my 2nd holiday season spent in China away from my family, and it gets pretty lonely here around the holidays. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) being able to accept an offer next year and enter an MA program in the US. My fingers are crossed that something works out this time. All of the programs that I applied to this year are pretty far from my hometown. The closest one is more than 650 miles away. Because they're all so far, would you suggest driving back and forth for holidays, or flying? As you all know grad students have budgets and flying back and forth can be expensive. Do most grad students go home for the holidays? How does it work with leaving your rented house/apartment? Do most students bring cars to school?
