Hey- congrats to you! Early January? Wow, that was fast. Their app deadline was Jan 1! Who did you interview with if you don't mind my asking... Is next weeks interview via phone or in person? My interview went ok, pretty casual as well. Welcome to the forum

I couldn't resist the temptation and so I emailed. My POI responded informing me (in the nicest way possible) that I was not accepted. While devastated, I wonder how long I would have waited hadn't I asked.

Is it risky to send your POI a friendly email inquiring about application updates? I assume this is not exactly appropriate, but I do not know for sure. Thanks!

Congrats!! You are so lucky to have so much information at this point! Can you please fill us in on when and how you heard from the schools (email/calls/website). Thanks and congrats again! And if you hear anything from PSU PLEASE let us know...that's a popular choice and no one has heard anything yet. If you don't mind my asking, who did you apply to work with PSU? (you can PM me if you prefer).

Ok...so today was Brutally Quiet. I have so much trouble concentrating on anything else ...so instead of lurking around on GC aimlessly, I figured I would provide some useful advice, which I wish I had gotten back in early January. Note to future applicants (or myself if I do not get in this round..sigh..cry): As soon as you drop your last application in the mail, take off to some remote island with minimal internet connection for a solid 2 months (just tack this expense to the application bill ; ). Be sure to bring an arm full of trashy, mindless novels and some sunscreen. When you get back home, you will not have missed anything (i promise) and you will have saved yourself from absolute insanity! Your only job will be to sift through your application decisions which will be patiently waiting for you.

I had an instructor who went to TC for the Social/Org Psych PhD and he did tell us that funding was definitely an issue (lack of), but he knew that going in but he really wanted to work with a specific Professor there. Good Luck to EVERYONE this week!!

Hi GBear, I would not start to panic. How are your references? 3 pubs is HUGE! Especially coming from undergrad! I am sure you will begin hearing by next week. It doesn't seem that anyone has heard from these schools so your not alone. It is still early. Hang in there!!! (Jeez, I wish I could take my own advice...I am a nervous wreck too ; )

I have applied to all 3 (TC, DePaul and GW) and have not heard a thing yet. Its been really quiet = really stressful.

Thanks for the info. I would take a week and half just waiting to hear from other schools (this should be an active week), then take it from there. Sticky situation, but at least you have a little time. Worse case scenario you could bite the bullet and contact the POI's at your first choice schools (assuming you have been in contact with them throughout the application process) and try to find out some info about your status. I will send good vibes your way!

I thought (by APA standards) they have to give you until April 15th to make a decision..? 14 days seems rather unfair, especially being so early in the game. I am not sure what the best practice is in this situation...lets hope you hear from your top choice schools within the next two weeks (but if you get waitlisted that would be a much longer wait). Sorry I can't be of more help.. CONGRATS on the acceptance! Because I also applied to FIU, when did you get the letter? And did your status change on your online application? thx. P.S. You applied to PhD programs, right? Your Member info does not indicate that.

Hello, I was wondering if the person who posted on the results page saying they had a HORRIBLE interview at Yale is around...? I myself just had a horrible interview (or what I think was horrible) and wanted to briefly chat... Thanks

If you go down the list of topics on our psych forum, you will see one as "interview". On this topic someone (eucalyptus) posted VERY helpful blog on what she wore to all of the different events at an interview weekend. I am sure that would be helpful for you!

Thank you for that blog post! I was hoping we could get this thread going with peoples experiences thus far with interviews (whether it be on the phone, face-to-face, or an entire weekend). Mks- I think it would be a good idea to make sure they have received all of your application materials. Like Fuddy said, most places emailed to tell me if something was missing or if my application was complete. Good Luck and welcome to the forum! I also applied to Maryland...no word yet.
