Welcome to the 2015-2016 Cycle!

I was accepted last year and the stipend was around $15,000 for the school year with no summer funding... Wisconsin is an amazing program; I'd recommend going to the visit for sure. However, I ultimately did not choose to go there (and honestly, funding was one of the biggest reasons). -
I would email the DGS. Alex Pacek a-pacek@tamu.edu

Thank you all so much! I appreciate the candid advice.

Hi all, I know that many of us have heard from departments, and therefore, I am wondering if anyone has started the process of deciding on a program. Also, I know this is a bit early as some programs have yet to announce decisions and that there are still visit days to attend. However, I am constantly weighing all of my options and playing out different scenarios in my head. My current question is do I attend a top 10 school with some fit or a top 20 school with near perfect fit (please note that I do not have all of the information regarding the schools as I have yet to visit)? I have read a ton online and many advise to go with the highest ranked program that one gets into. However, my current undergraduate advisors really stress fit. Any advice is appreciated and I would love to hear how you all are weighing your options and deciding on programs. Thanks!

I have the visit day info. However, I had to ask about it since I had to schedule my travel to visit the poli sci department at UMN and Wisconsin in the same week. Have you been in contact with Katherine Murphy, the graduate secretary? -
Thanks so much! I am just doing some preliminary looking too. Taking public transportation would be awesome! Again, thanks!

I have definitely started weighing my options. I still haven't received the funding amounts from most of the programs, so like you, I am waiting on that. In addition, I still haven't heard from a few programs. As of right now, I am leaning towards the Humphrey school. I think for me it comes down to two questions, "What do I really want to do?" and "Where do I see myself is ten years?" I want to be a scholar-practitioner and have the interdisciplinary skills and knowledge to be in academia or the public/private sector. Also, Humphrey would provide me with amazing advisors - who have been in contact with me and are absolutely honest and welcoming. -
Thank you for your advice! Yeah, I plan on driving to campus for sure.

Hi -- Looking to revive this thread for the 2015 admits. Any suggestions on decent areas/apartments for a young couple with two dogs? We are interested in being near bars, restaurants, shopping, parks, etc... However, we do not want to be in an area where there are a ton of undergraduate students. We are looking to move at the beginning of June. I have read through this thread and it seems that Uptown and St. Anthony park are better areas for graduate students. We are thinking up to $1200/month for a two bedroom. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Yep, that's me. A professor on the admissions committee called me to let me know. It was like around 5:30pm CST, so I doubt they have called everyone they are admitting. My status online still says waiting, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks! And no, it has not changed on the website.

Hi! I heard from them about 10 days ago via phone. Not sure if they have released all of their decisions or not. Maybe you should email them to see?

Hi all - I posted the Duke info on the results page. I applied to the dual PhD program in public policy and political science; however, that is through the Sanford school of public policy, not the political science department. I heard from the Sanford school regarding my admission status a week ago -- apparently, the political science department does not have a say in joint admits. Since I am coming straight from my undergrad, Sanford wanted me to complete their MPP program and then reapply to their PhD program afterwards. Anyway, I ended up switching my application to the poli sci department this week, and they informed me that admission results should come out soon (I'm guessing within the next few weeks). I hope that puts you all at ease. Best of luck!
