  1. neuronerd i got accepted to PIBS as well!

  2. Hehe thanks. And if you ever get invited to a formal interview (i.e. campus visit, talking to faculty members face-to-face), follow this thread here:
  3. Thanks guys! It sounds just like a regular in-person interview... good that I have til next Monday to be ready.
  4. Hello there, I just asked a similar question. Refer to this thread and it could give you some rough idea of what to expect: Good luck!
  5. I got an email from a prof at Purdue requesting to talk with me on the phone. Does this sound like a phone interview to anyone? Yikes, I might babbling random stuff...
  6. good to see another Michigan PIBS interviewee! I applied to Pharmacology... good luck to your interview~

  7. OH I LOL'ed on this one. Once I emailed Michigan PIBS asking them when is the deadline for Cornell's application..
  8. Same here. I sent a resume to Johns Hopkins with Washington University in St. Louis" on it. Haven't heard back from both schools yet... Wish me luck...
  9. lol, i like this post. i get weird reaction from people when they ask what's my major/what do i study too... Person: what's your major? Me: Biochemistry Person: < (and then walked away) Person: so which graduate program are you applying for? Me: i'm applying to pharmacology programs from A, B, and C. Person: oh that's cool! so you can get your pharmacist license and work at CVS! Me: heh. Person: do not look down on the profession just because you think it's boring!... blah blah blah *goes on lengthy lecture on why cheap labor job is moving to China or India* pharmacology is totally different from pharmacy...
  10. - rough first two years of undergrad (many C's and almost failed Calc and Organic chem), resulting in slightly-better-than 3.0 GPA. - mediocre GRE score. - didn't get publication out in time. - i forgot to check on the header of my resume: i put the name of School A on the resume for School B... i realized it after i clicked submit button!
  11. i had a strange dream last night, where i was invited to interview at a middle earth-looking place with a lot of trees around. everyone did their research in tree houses....
  12. i'd like to have a blog too to pass some time and relieve the research anxiety... i'll write about my experience too as i hear back from the schools.
  13. Just like one of my LORs... find backups!
  14. I did email my last LOR numerous times, but didn't have the courage to call because there was the holiday/winter break. I finally called her on Monday to ask for an update, and she promised that she will do it. I can totally related to your frustration joro, I had a lot of frustration with my LOR too.. In the end, I simply found another person to write me an additional letter, because I don't think I want to take chances.
  15. i have just gone through this process. what i did was, i called up/emailed all of my schools and asked them how would they handle applications with a missing reference. some do review apps with 2/3 reference, some ignore them completely. programs do generally allow a couple weeks past deadline for everything to come in, but do let them know about your situation somehow.
  16. as usual, mommy gets the first call. and then it's my lab folks.. they've been very supportive so far!
  17. i am applying for pharmacology! i'm interested in structural-based drug design and diseases at the molecular level.
  18. I haven't started watching these yet, but here's my 2 cents: Movie: Sherlock Holmes Sunny with a chance of meatballs (I'm a big fan of disney/pixar animes) Twilight (heard it's only so-so) Knowing Alvin and Chipmunks TV: House M.D. (ugh no new episodes right now) Just to pass some time!
  19. Thanks for your pointers! Can't wait to see Ann Arbor, I hear it's very nice there.
  20. I joined this forum rather late in my application process, and I'm new to posting things here (so hi all!). So far I've submitted all of my applications, a total of 7 schools with 6 submitted before mid Dec., and 1 submitted yesterday. I have been dealing with a super unresponsive LOR writer, who had all the information to write recommendation letters back in Sept. I know my GPA is not so great and my GRE is just mediocre, without that third LOR turned in on time, I already gave up on the ones that had Dec. 1st deadline. But a surprised phone call from a PI at University of Michigan PIBS came around some time in mid-late December regarding my future interview there, I suppose I still have some hope after all. What do you all think that I need to do for preparation? Thank you all for suggestions!
  21. i agree with you on this. the answer key in the math section contains mistakes, i was shocked to find this out that i mistakenly marked my right answer wrong (i'm applying for Pharmacology PhD F10). and i didn't do as well as i anticipated on quantitative section. i would also say, DO NOT buy this book!
  22. i got the interview phone call around the same time of 12/18 from Michigan PIBS. so ya it's definitely them!
  23. i also applied to UC Davis but to the pharmacology/toxicology program. didn't like the prompts either...
