  1. HigherEd, I would say the biggest benefits of Cronkhite are the community and the location. We are literally located two blocks away from the Ed school. Absolutely invaluable. Also, the Cronkhite community coming together almost everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is wonderful. It keeps me sane. We study, party, celebrate, and commiserate together hah

    M15 & TIE-ers,

I am blown away by the TIE program. You'll have every opportunity to create high-quality educational products in your coursework and outside of class. I am currently pursuing an education start-up at the Harvard Innovation Lab. We've had the opportunity to meet with over a dozen venture capitalists and entrepreneurial mentors. So many resources at your finger tips...

I am currently interning with Google Education and the MIT Media Lab. So, I mean that speaks to the connections you can make at HGSE.

  2. Ah, I apologize for the confusion. It was the number used for my application haha. Admission email from last year:

    Dear Eric,

Your HGSE admissions decision is now available online.

(If you need your PIN and/or password, click on the Forgot your PIN or Password? or Technical Support link.)

Please note that you can access your decision at the bottom of the web page beneath the Application Status information.

    Sincerely,

    Maria Curcio, Ed.M. '99
    Director of Admissions

  3. Acceptance rate for Ed.L.D. is around 1%. Only 25 were selected from over 2,000 applicants. It's an impressive cohort.

Also, I wrote approximately 900 words in my Statement of Purpose. Short, sweet, and to the point.

  4. Because US News only ranks education schools by the GRE or GPA of their PhD candidates, I imagine that schools will be more flexible with a poor GRE from Ed.M. applicants they really like.

Does anyone have info on the GRE range/median/average scores for HGSE or other top schools?

    Ed.M. students

    Verbal Average: 600

    Quantitative Average: 660

    Analytical Writing Average: 4.7

  5. btw airwick can you make the facebook group private? apparently facebook posted my post in the group page to all my friends' newsfeed which has inadvertently exposed my plans to attend harvard... which is now causing unrest amongst bay area family and friends :)

Of course! I will sneak on Facebook at work and change the settings.

    *edit

Changed it from my iPhone. We're now "secret" haha So exclusive!

  6. How do you all feel about the one-year aspect of the program? Are you planning to continue in academia, or look for work after HGSE?

I absolutely love the one-year aspect of the program. I don't have a lengthy explanation as to why... I just feel that one year is the perfect amount of time to immerse yourself in your studies and network with like-minded people.

I would love to start an educational technology initiative/organization with people in my cohort upon graduation. If that doesn't work out, I can see myself working for Discovery Education.

  7. and in terms of access to tech@Harvard:

    1) you can take courses at MIT

    2) you can do research projects with MIT professors

    3) Boston has a burgeoning ed.tech startup scene

so.. at this point it's a no brainer for me.

    4) I'm going to be there!!! Let's start something big haha

Yeah, I totally agree with all your points. Harvard TIE stands above the rest.

  8. Just booked my flight to Cambridge, March 29th - March 31st :) I'm using www.airbnb.com to locate an affordable place to stay in the surrounding area. Dad is joining... otherwise I would've split with someone.

Also, I was surprised to discover I'm 6 years younger than the average HGSE Masters candidate. Anyone else coming straight out of undergrad?

  9. So happy for you! I just knew you were getting in. This has been one heck of a ride. Thanks for being so supportive.

    See you in the fall!!!!!

Oh I knew you were getting in too! Seriously, I think your private message was the only reason I was able to sleep on Monday night haha Thanks for your support :)

I look forward to seeing you and my fellow Gradcafers this Fall !!
