I would accept the job offer and then quit if you end up hearing from a program that you want to go to (you could work up until August so that still gives you almost 6 months)

Anyone hear from Rice? I received an email that the Prospective Students' Weekend is March 12-14 so I'm assuming that they've sent out their offers by now. PM me if you're going!

Hey, I'm also moving to Houston. Any updates? I'm just concerned with finding a nice place near Rice that is still affordable.

Good insight! I spoke to him yesterday and just mentioned that I am almost 100% sure that I want to go with him but I'd just like to hear back from some of my schools and he told me to let him know as soon as possible. I'm so excited that he actually wants to work with me but now I'm feeling pressured to make a decision so soon!

I would love to work with him (and it would be as a 1st year grad student)...it is my realistic top choice. I applied to 2 dream schools but I don't expect to get in. However, I think I rather just tell him that I'd like to see all of my options before agreeing to anything.

I work at a research lab with a very prominent professor in the field. Recently, he just accepted a job offer at another university, which has a great program. I received an email from him asking me if I want to go there and all of the grad students I work with said that it basically means that he's willing to take me along. The tricky thing is that it seems like he wants a definite answer now but I haven't heard back from any of the other 12 schools that I applied to...what should I do?!

If it didn't feel as horrible as it does, then it wouldn't feel as rewarding in the end! That being said, I'm dying inside. NO SLEEP! CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE BUT GRAD APPS! I'm going cray cray!!!

A couple of grad students told me that it's a good sign when you aren't hearing back right away because you didn't get automatically rejected, have passed the first round, and are still being considered...but of course I'd prefer just getting accepted right away! ...Also, it depends on the program you are applying to. I applied to a lot of I/O schools and from the looks of it most schools contact students around feb-march. Definitely check out http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.phpto see when students were contacted in previous years at your specific programs!

Ahhh Penn State does interviews??? I'm the worst interviewee...if I even get one :'D

Ahaha this is so me! Right now I'm waiting to hear back and I'm trying to keep my mind off of it because waiting is giving me crazy anxiety. So all of my conversations go: "Hey how are you?" "Oh I'm just trying not to think about my grad school applications because the more I think about them the more I go crazy"....and then we start talking about grad apps. It's a bit counterintuitive but I can't help it!

HOW ARE YOU ALL GETTING INTERVIEWS ALREADY??? I haven't heard from any of my schools :'(

I can't sleep. As much as I try to take my mind off of applications, they're really all I think about. I keep checking my email, junk mail, and gradcafe to see if anyone's heard from the same schools. THIS IS TORTURE.
