  1. smpalesh - Thank you! I'm really excited. It's only my second time going out of the country for a 'tropical vacation'. Doing bristol boards are super fun though! I'm sure it's passing the time and probably overwhelming if they are coming to you last minute. I know I always did that as a kid, haha.
  2. Okay I am sitting in class having a heart attack!!! (okay not actually but WHAT)!!!!! How are people receiving acceptances from UofT right now? This cannot be happening, I am not mentally prepared for this. Ahhhhhhh! I know it's only for the 1 year but that means the 2 years aren't far behind! Are we seriously getting these a month early?!
  3. I really don't think they could divulge that information. My guess is that they technically probably don't know yet since it still has to get approved by the graduate faculty so they wouldn't be able to tell you if you got in or not. My suggestion would be try and be as patient as possible. I know that seems like something impossible to do but I'm looking at it this way. They said they are not releasing any information before Friday - so basically until Friday there's no point in thinking about it because we won't get an answer regardless. On friday we can have mini freakouts throughout the day, but if by 5pm we still haven't heard anything, then it will go until Monday. I'm leaving for Cancun Tuesday morning so... half of me wants to know before I leave so I can celebrate, but half of me doesn't because I don't want it to ruin my trip if it's a rejection. But I would deff be interested in knowing when they are sending rejection letters. I'm too nervous to call though, haha.
  4. Did she happen to say anything rejection letters? Will they be sent at the same time as admissions?
  5. Thank you!! Now I will stop refreshing the portal every 5 minutes haha. That makes me feel so much better - I can actually concentrate on all the work I have to do this week ! Thank you.
  6. I feel the exact same way! I really really want to get into Carleton so it's scary hearing from your first choice first! You've applied to same schools though so I really think you have great chances
  7. I'm really starting to freak out! Last year Carleton applicants found out on the 17th.... that's TOMORROW!!! ahhhhh. I can hardly handle it! I wonder if we will be finding out this week or next week. I'm really hoping for this week too! Any other Carleton applicants starting to stress?!
  8. Mine says the exact same thing: "Review in progress by department". But I second aleksp's comment, does anyone else who has applied to Carleton (1 year or 2 year program) have anything different?
  9. Thank you, you too! We got this! Only 15 days until the last day of the month
  10. Prairiegirl2015, I have that as well - it's been there forever. I feel like we will be overanalyzing this portal for the next few weeks. I've also been constantly re-reading my personal statements. I know there's nothing I can do about them now but somehow it usually gives me a boost of confidence. Anyone else re-reading their submitted documents?
  11. Right?!?! I KNOW!!! I've been freaking out all week! I have a paper + midterm on Monday and I can hardly concentrate. I just want to know so I can start planning.
  12. @social work 93, I'm basically in the same position as you. My lease (in Montreal) ends on May 1st but I have a work contract until August 30th so I could try to transfer my job and find an apt and sign a 1 year lease in the city that I get accepted (hopefully), or find a summer sublet in Montreal for the summer and continue my work contract here. Since I've been living with roommates for the last 4 years, I'm finally moving out with my partner so no roommates for me (besides him, haha). I am super excited about starting this next chapter and I'm really fortunate that he's able to move with me (he can also transfer his job). You're not alone in obsessing as to whether or not we will get in. That is all I can think about, especially since we will find out about Carleton extremely soon. I got an email response from admissions yesterday stating that they are finalizing their decisions this week (OH MY GOSH) and they want to have everything posted by the end of the month. I'm thinking we will know by next week.
  13. For all the U of T applicants, I'm thinking this might affect us if they don't come to an agreement. http://www.thestar.com/yourtoronto/education/2015/02/12/u-of-t-non-tenured-staff-poised-for-strike-feb-27.html What do you all think?
  14. Yeah I did the same and it seemed to be anywhere between February 17th - 21st ish. Nonetheless, it's less than 18 days!!
  15. I've been trying to do the same - going to the gym, completing some homework/papers (although I have zero motivation since I know I'm graduating), planning a summer trip, anniversary/valentines day/my birthday. I'm thinking of maybe doing something different next weekend like indoor rock climbing or something. I think that would be fun and take my mind off of all this stress. I'm finding the weekends more bearable than the week though since I know we won't ever receive news from the schools on the weekends. I've been trying to limit myself on checking the university portals twice a day but so far it hasn't help. Does anyone have any ideas/tips on how to not obsessively check them? I know Laurier doesn't have one which is nice but most schools do.
  16. I'm sure there's a possibility that some know about this board, but I don't think it would harm us in any way. They are probably chuckling at how much were stressing about this...
  17. On the website I found that there are generally 150-200 applicants give or take. Everything happens for a reason, so like you said "what will be, will be." Where would you be moving from? I'm currently in Montreal so Ottawa makes sense for me because it's not far to move and the cost of living is relatively the same, whereas I don't think I can afford to live in Toronto. It's so expensive! That makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who did one essay! Yeah, I'm currently finishing my undergrad at McGill University - women's studies major, with a double minor in education and sociology. How about you? I read on the past forum that if it changes to "Review in progress by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs" it's like oh my, they are reviewing it - on the edge of your seat panic. and then once it says, "Decision made by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs: Application Approved" that's YAY!, or the one we hope to not get "Decision made: Declined Admission". They are all on the website, just type in carleton admissions status.
  18. Carleton definitely does require a lot of hours, but if you've met the requirements I think that's half the battle. I'm sure they probably eliminate a lot of candidates because they lack the required amount of hours. I'm worried because they only accept 25 people, that's so low in comparison to the other universities. Granted, not as many people apply to Carleton but still... They also seemed really lenient with their application. For the personal statement, I had contacted Sue Brady (the admin woman) and had asked her if they wanted mini essays for each questions, or one long essay and about the word count. She has simply said that they like to give the choice to the applicant and you could do as you please. That worried me because I didn't know what was best etc. I ended up writing 1 long essay. So many feelings! I'd love to know before midterms start happening because I'm finding it so hard to concentrate on school when I really want to know whats going on with my life in the next 6 months. haha. How are you juggling work/school with the waiting game? My status currently says: "Review under progress by the department" You? We are literally finding out in less than 21 days!
  19. I had the same reaction! I didn't realize it was so soon either! I was expecting to wait until April but I guess not! Did you apply for the 2 year or 1 year program? It's my first choice so I'm really counting on this, fingers crossed. Good luck to you as well
  20. I know right!! Less than 28 days!! I can hardly wait!! Fingers crossed !
  21. I just got this email from Carleton admin: "Hello ______, we are hoping to have all decisions made by the end of February, and information can be obtained through the Carleton portal, but an email will be generated to the application when there is an action on their file. If an offer of admission is approved by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGPA) they will be sending the successful candidates the offer of admission by email. Sue"
