  1. Prairiegirl2015, Have you asked when we should be hearing back? I've emailed them but no response. I'm assuming this month...
  2. So I totally just read the entire forum on the 2014 admissions (procrastinating on the homework) and now I'm FREAKING OUT! Applicants who applied from Carleton heard back as early as February 18, that's in 16 days from now!!!! Is anyone else here applying to Carleton? It seems like there are so little of us, I'm feeling alone in this Carleton process . But nonetheless, I really really want Carleton it makes so much sense for me. Both my partner and I can get our jobs transferred there so if I can hear back already so we can start planning that would be beautiful. Ahhh, I'm so nerveous/freaking out !
  3. Although I applied for the 2 year program, I am so excited for you all advanced standing folks!! It's so soon!!!
  4. Hey Lee22, I chose the same for Laurier, but I did we have to choose for UofT for the 2-year MSW? I didn't write that anywhere in my application.
  5. Hey everyone, I have a quick question about the Laurier application. For many of my volunteering positions, the service/organization is non-hierarchical so I don't have anyone as a "supervisor". In that case, on the form that we must fill out regarding the breakdown of our hours what should I write? "N/A" or "non-hierarchical" or "student run" or leave it blank? I've been trying to call Laurier but no one is answering . Please help!
  6. smpalesh - that's quite possible. That's what they told me when I went to visit the university this summer to get a feel of kitchener/waterloo and their MSW program. I'm 21 and applying, so I imagine there are a lot of others that are also applying right after the completion of their undergrad.
  7. I was told when I visited the university that the mean age of people applying is usually between 25-27
  8. Congrats to everyone who submitted their UofT application! Who's had yet to do their Laurier applications? That's the one I'm most nervous about since the competition is so steep! They barely accept anyone . I feel like it's one of those things that you could have a perfect application but still not get it. I think it's really depended on the demographic, maybe I am wrong. Any thoughts?
  9. On some I went over the word limit by 20 ish words, others I was under 20 words, so I felt like it was a good balance. I hope they see if that way as well, and don't assume that I'm not a good writer who can stick to the limits. Some questions are more loaded than others so it's hard not too go over, I found anyway. I think if we would go over by 50+ words then it would be an issue... but under 40/50, I don't think so. Then again, what do I know? haha
  10. I felt the same way. I started writing mine at the end of September so I know what it feels like to feel like it's never perfect. I keep re-editing and made so many changes. I used December 1st as my deadline, instead of December 15th, so now both my UofT and Carleton applications have been submitted. Since I'm going into finals week, I personally wouldn't be able to have an open application on my mind. I found the process to be extremely stressful - too many unanswered questions. But certainly take the time you need to keep re-editing it. It's really important because often you miss certain details. Also, try and get as many people as possible to make edits. I hope it goes well!
  11. For the first question, I wrote two paragraphs about my personal motivations and one paragraph about paid-work related experiences that motivated me. In the second part, I focused solely on volunteering experiences (since those are very substantial in my case).
  12. Such a detailed response! Thank you. I'm loving that there are a few of you who have already applied, it's so nice. Snail mail? Seriously, that's the worst. Now I'll be checking online and my mailbox, haha. The waiting continues. For those who are applying to Carleton, I emailed and they said "later in the new year". I'm not sure if that's February or April, but lets hope its sooner than later.
  13. Okay thank you . I was so scared I did something wrong so they were rejecting me 48 hours later. I'm glad that is not the case.
  14. My UofT status changed to "Under Review"!! What does this even mean?! I'm freaking out. It's only been 36 hours since I applied...
  15. Smpalsh, I agree with jenste, I think by tweaking it a bit it will definitely make a difference and make it that much stronger. I've seen your post and you certainly are a very strong candidate. As said previously, take some deep breaths and write away, you'll see that your personal statement will come out great. I believe in you Keep us updated. You got this!
  16. Hey everyone! So I officially submitted my UofT and Carleton applications this afternoon. I'm freaking out, I can't believe they are in. Now, may the wanting begin. I think I've looked at the status of my applications 10 times already. There is noway I'm going to make it until April! Does anyone have any insight on when Carleton sends their decisions for the 2 year programs? Ahhhhh! Anyone else freaking out?
  17. Hi, If I sent you my SOP, would you be interested in providing some feedback? It would be greatly appreciated!
  18. Hey, I'm applying to a masters of social work, would you be interested in editing my personal statement?
  19. Hello, I would really, really appreciate if someone would be interested in editing my personal statement for my application to a masters of social work. I don't really have anyone to edit it and I'm super stressed about it. I'm also willing to swap personal statements. Please let me know if you would be interested. Sincerely, Purple
  20. Hi Bettyg, It seems like you have a lot of experience! I think you have really great chances to get in. I would just say to make sure that your CV is as detailed as possible since I know UofT does not have a limit. As per the process, you're not alone. I'm equally freaking out, and it seems like I just can't get my personal statement right regardless of how many times I look it. We're all in this together. With that said, I think you have a great chance - your experience will speak for itself. As per your average, that's a super great average! If you want to chat, have support, or just talk about this stressful process don't hesitate to message me
  21. I can't get into the Carleton Portal to upload documents - is it just me or is this happening to other folks?
  22. Smpalesh, I think I check this board everyday and nothing changes! So I totally agree with obsessing! I'm applying to the 2yr MSW at UofT, Carleton, and Laurier. I'm soooo nervous! My overall GPA is only a 3.1 but last years GPA is a 3.76, so since most of the schools only look at your full last academic year, I hope that works in my favour. But, I'm also scared that they will peak at the rest of my transcript and not take me into consideration. Procrastinating? That's all I'm doing. I've written my personal statement for UofT, but I probably change it everyday. I can't seem to get it perfect. I'm also not even close to starting the other ones. If you want to edit/switch personal statements let me know Were applying to different programs, so it might be helpful. I'm also finding the CV quite difficult to write, so many ways to say the same thing! Nonetheless, I think you have very good explanations why you haven't "been involved" since June, and I think they will take that into consideration. I'm definitely glad you post on here. It's nice to hear the perspective of someone who's gone through the process. I'm freaking out about UofT, I want it sooooo badly but yet it seems so scary.
