  1. Hey friends I applied in 2014 for the MSW, and I was accepted to both Laurier and Carleton, and I am now attending Carleton's MSW program. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I was really active on these boards last year and it's great to see another community forming again this year.
  2. For those who were accepted to Carleton, here is the FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/388404831356838/
  3. Hey For anyone who's been accepted and is attending Laurier (2 year) and has Facebook, please join our group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1397129410607604/
  4. Hey If there are any Canadians on this forum who have been accepted to Wilfrid Laurier's 2 Year MSW program, make sure to join our Facebook group (if you have Facebook) Hope to see some of you there! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1397129410607604/
  5. I was also waitlisted at UofT. My letter was dated April 8th, and I received it in Montreal on April 13th
  6. Hi mijj_wa, I was really set on Carleton originally, and since I was waitlisted at Carleton but accepted to Laurier, I will be attending Laurier. I'm curious to know why you chose Carleton over Laurier. I haven't been able to find a lot of information to compare the two besides the fact that Laurier has 3 placements, in comparison with Carleton who has two. Are there any specific reasons why you chose Carleton over Laurier? Personally, it was more for the location that I wanted Carleton. I'm just curious
  7. I second this information! Knowing the format and if having a part-time job is possible, would be great. Ellogartz - I found an outline online. Fall: 5 core courses (all theory) Winter: Practicums with 2 courses Spring/Summer: Practicum with 2 courses Fall: Practicum with 1 course Winter: 2 electives and 2 core courses
  8. AMetallo - For unpaid work I volunteered at a sexual assault centre for 3 years where I had different positions and took on different projects. I also volunteered for 3 organizations that dealt with empowering/gender identities and sexualities/advocacy work. I was also on a communications team for a feminist magazine. For paid work, I've been working at Citizenship and Immigration Canada for almost two years. I had a summer paid internship at the Office for Students with Disabilities, and the previous year I worked as a camp counsellor through the YMCA. I think that about sums it for me, I hope this helps. Also if you have any further questions about work experience/personal statement, please feel free to PM me. I am definitely not an expert but I can try to help
  9. AMetallo, I applied with a 3.68 - 3.72 (in that range) out of 4.0, and I have 3609 hours of mixed paid and unpaid work. So I definitely fit closer to the 3500 range.
  10. Hey If anyone is interested in making a Facebook group for Laurier (2year) let me know! I don't mind creating one but I just need to add 1 member while creating it in order for it to work. There are previous previous groups for 2012,13,14,15 and 16 but none for 2017 yet.
  11. I was accepted to Laurier (2year) and mine only changed after I received the email. Once in the acceptance email you get all the necessary information to log-in as well as your new email/password etc. So personally, I wouldn't think too much about LORIS because it doesn't tell you anything (unfortunately).
  12. Hey I created a Facebook group where anyone can ask questions about Canadian MSW programs. This forum can sometimes get really lengthy and confusing so I thought it would be a good idea. Of course, please don't feel obligated to be part of it. This might not work but I thought it would be worth a try . https://www.facebook.com/groups/346187155575824/ Edit: if the link doesn't work, type Canadian MSW Programs
  13. Hi horizonmind, I don't really know anything McGill's QY, but I'm currently finish my undergrad at McGill. So if you have any general questions about McGill or Montreal, feel free to PM me
  14. I second this! I would also love to know more! Maybe we can have a message thread?
  15. Ahhhh I don't know, I'm just still so excited! I can't stop dancing everywhere, haha. Um... as of right now I accepted Laurier and I'm going to Laurier but if Carleton comes to me with an offer I'll have to assess the situation then. I really don't know what I would do. Carleton was my first choice because it's not far from Montreal and my partner's family. Also, my partner and I wouldn't mind establishing ourselves in Ottawa so in terms of the future it would be perfect, but on the other hand I'm assuming Waterloo might have cheaper living expenses etc (which I'm not sure of) so it honestly depends on finances, our future plans, future work opportunities, so many things. I really don't know. We would have to sit down and write our pros and cons list and seriously consider both options. As of right now however, I'm choosing to believe that I am attending Laurier
  16. Fingers crossed for you! Don't loose hope yet! There is still time
  17. Aweee That's so sweet, thank you!!! :) I'm so excited! It still feels like a dream! I can't even believe it! Yay! Are you accepting Laurier, or you're still waiting on other offers?
  18. I completely agree! I read it over so many times. I got the same generic line - no funding.
