  1. @IrisR and @Tuesday04449 Thank you for your congratulations, and I hope you both start hearing good news from schools soon!
  2. @Tuesday04449 Haha, yes. I am super nervous and excited.
  3. FYI: Tyler painting sent out interview requests.
  4. Hey @lynn56I noticed that you are applying to UMichigan for painting. Why did you end up deciding to apply there? I've noticed a few painters applying there over the years, but when I looked into the program it seemed really interdisciplinary and I didn't see many painters in the faculty or among the student body. I mean the program itself seems super cool and unique(you get to work with a professor outside of art, do a month long international research trip of your design, and full funding!), and the professors I met there where super smart and kind, but I was just wondering about your reasons for applying there.
  5. Well I don't know about you guys, but I am already so over waiting to find out about admissions decisions. It is going to be a tough couple of months.
  6. I recently visited and was really impressed by their program. Their new department head (josephine halvorson) seems to be shaking things up in a really good way.
  7. @IrisRThanks for sharing, it is really interesting to hear about your experience. Being asked to be less polished to get admitted seems like a pretty big red flag, why wouldn't a program want to encourage students who take their work seriously and present it in a very professional manner? very odd. But at least you now have a better understanding of what the programs want. @a_photo That kind of guidance seems super helpful, my list of school is also way too long!
  8. Is anyone going to apply this year?
  9. @Mr.PoopyButtHole I am happy to hear it went so well for you! Are you going to end up apply to the schools? Where there any schools you spoke to that you realized were not a good fit after speaking to?
  10. I don't think it really makes sense to go back and get another bachelor degree if you already have one, but you can def work on your own and cobble together some classes to build a network and learn about art. If you want NYC has a ton of amazing schools that offer night/ part time art courses. Could you post some of your work? That might help people advise which schools you should look at. You might want to look into taking classes at or doing a drawing marathon at the studio school. https://nyss.org/about/ They emphasis drawing from life and really teach you how to look and draw.
  11. Did anyone go? Who did you speak with and how did it go? Did anyone learn anything that swayed their decision to apply?
  12. Are any of you applying to summer programs for painting and/or printmaking? I have done a little research and it seems like Oxbow, Chautauqua, and Skowhegan have amazing programs. Does anyone have any additional suggestions? Do any past participants have any feedback or advice?
