I applied to the Museum Studies program at ASU, which is one of their MA degrees. I was super excited for their program because I would have been working with pre-Columbian southwestern material culture as a grad assistant at the archaeology labs in the new Center for Archaeology and Society, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. It's a separate program from bioarchaeology so I don't think you have any reason to freak out - my POI was Arleyn Simon if that helps clarify things. Good luck with your applications!

Thank you for the kind words! ASU was one of my reach schools but it still sucks to get rejected. Hopefully the rejections will get easier from here on out, and you're absolutely right, it only takes one school to make it happen! Good luck to you the rest of the way

Just checked my email and received my first rejection...I knew I wouldn't get in everywhere but I REALLY underestimated how shitty it was going to feel

It was an anonymous survey and the questions were mostly about the importance of certain factors in our decision to apply, how we found out about the program, etc. They also asked us where else we applied and how far up our list the program is. Based on the results search they sent out acceptances mid-February last year so the 2/13 deadline had me thinking they might start sending out decision the week of 2/16...

I just got an email from a program requesting that I fill out an anonymous survey about my application experience. They requested that I fill out the survey by February 13. Surely this means decisions will be coming out on or shortly after February 13, right?!?!??

Trust me, you'll get used to it. Once I moved out to my current west coast location after undergrad I went from super uptight New Englander to laid back, chillaxin' Pacific NW hippie in no time!

"Oh you have an interview today? That's weird. When I got into grad school 40 years ago I didn't have to interview so I'm not sure why you need to do an interview now. What kind of program is this anyway?" -My well meaning yet slightly out of touch co-worker's reaction when I informed her I was doing a grad school interview over the phone this afternoon

I had a phone interview with my POI and the Grad Director at one of my top choices this afternoon. After the interview I sent a quick thank you note via email to both, and my POI replied with "Great talking with you! More soon : )" HE USED A SMILEY FACE AT THE END OF THE SENTENCE! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!?!?!? I feel like I'm thinking way too hard about this emoticon...

So I just finished my phone interview with a program's DGS and my POI about 30 minutes ago. At the start of the interview, the DGS said "Hi museum_geek, we think you have a very strong package and we are glad that you are considering our program. This will be just as much of a chance for you to get to know us as it is for us to get to know you." Then when we finished they both reiterated that they are very interested in me and that I will be hearing from them soon. Should I put any stock in this? Or is that just one of those meaningless platitudes interviewers throw out there to everyone they interview? For the record, 2/3 of the interview consisted of me asking them questions about the program.

Not much in the way of advice aside from believe in yourself and be confident! Best of luck!
