  1. Pleeeeeaaaasssee.... Just email me tomorrow adcom. I think I am going to die....
  2. In my spare time waiting for Ok State to reply.... I am having to figure out the logistics of shipping thousands of rocks internationally from door to door.... Nightmarish phone conversation with shipping companies. Example... Me: "Hi, I need some info on shipping pallets to England." FedEx rep: "What country is England in?"
  3. Damn... sorry to hear that. I'm still waiting to hear back from Ok. State.
  4. Lol... The social skills are ripe on this board. Everyone can stop picking fights with one another... It does no good to people who are stressed.
  5. What are you going into again?... everybody's stats are so deeply buried in the back pages. We applied to similar schools, although I chose Ok State instead of Ok university.
  6. Lol, i don't know... but it wasn't quite the email I wanted. I'm worried that I won't get in because of funding. I have a very "different" application, so to know that someone is actually interested, but the money is in the way, kinda sucks. I really hope it all works out. I still have to hear from Ok. State.
  7. So I just heard back from my advisor at UH, and I am being waitlisted. He said I had good LOR's/application, but that he is waiting to hear back about his grant proposals that are still under review.
  8. PETE here is good, but the whole university just had its state budget cut by 78%.... soooooo
  9. I just got an email from a poi informing me that their admissions process had just started... :/ Made ME feel a lot better, knowing that the silence wasn't because I was at the bottom of a waitlist, or worse... rejected.
  10. I was... I talked with him a bit before the application was due, and he creeped my LinkedIn a bit. I told him I was still really interested. He does seismic work. I hope my side profile is good enough. I've only had 1 reflection seismology course and 1 solid earth geophysics course. My perl, Matlab, and seismic UNIX are all pretty basic.
  11. Im done with UT... My eyes are on UH now.
  12. I just got a "are you still interested?" email from my POI at UH. They have apparently just started their admissions process... which makes me feel a lot better that I haven't heard anything. It would be such a great opportunity and I know that their admissions rate is pretty low.
  13. Just to clarify, by not admitted, do you mean not accepted, or not enrolled?
  14. Never.... bwahaha. Sorry, I was just imagining the admissions panel.
  15. I really just want to hear from Ok. State
  16. I was carrying a planetary crusts book the other day, and had a woman ask me if I was studying astrology.... LOL
  17. I have a friend who applied to UC Boulder and School of Mines. He is an exceptional student and has a wealth of good research along with extracurriculars. He is like the poster child application, at least compared to me. He hasn't heard anything back either.
  18. So how many people are left that have heard absolutely nothing from anyone?
  19. I would skip the paleo and hydro above the others. Some universities, albeit typically larger ones, may offer a combined diff eq/linear algebra course. Make sure your university doesn't offer that, because if they do, that is the way to go. I know our university offers it as a 4 credit course. Also, as far as programming goes, there are a lot of free courses put together by actual professors on "edx" and "coursera". Google them. You could try to learn basic matlab, perl, c++, python... In your spare time.
  20. Lol. I just learned of this today.
  21. So uhhh.... you know, the dress is white and gold, right?
  22. Does your geology department offer a reflection seismology course for undergrads? That would be quite helpful. I very much enjoyed my rs class. Also, just know that seismics involves a lot of programming. I would get on that bandwagon pretty quickly.
  23. Do not.... I repeat... do not go here. Just yesterday, the Louisiana budget gutting the entire state education system was passed. Even our flagship university had its state budget cut by 78%...... 78%. The entire system is about to bleed to death, and UNO will be one of them. Do not invest your future into this. It may not even last you throughout your masters.
  24. I have never wanted to identify a rock so badly that I had to lick it. But some people...
