I really meant that - this year is strange right?! What a year to go or not go to grad school in...
-
Soooooo how is everyone? For those "going" to school in fall how are we feeling?
-
-
Sounds like you want to hear if anyone has heard yet, @theatrebythebaygirl... I don't know about that so I can't be of help that front... But I do know nearly every school is going remote, cutting classes, cancelling productions, or preparing to do so in the near future. For the folks in the "haven't heard" pool that means everything is slowed down. I bet there will be no word for an entire month (especially with spring breaks in there too). Departments are not only grappling with working remotely, but rescheduling a how to proceed with learning in a field in which folks are required to be in a room together. You're not alone in the wait, hang in there!
-
Well, even though some folks have not heard yet, the wait may go on. Some schools have delayed processing because of covid 19. @littlepeep C has suspended classes so that may impact notices

@LRI160 This is awesome info! Just curious - did Yale specify if callbacks are the last complete weekend of Feb (Feb 22 and 23) or the last weekend of Feb/ first weekend of March (Feb 29/31)? Trying to have a sense of what may be on the horizon travel-wise... thanks!

Also - If it helps to know: Yale had interviews as late as February when I scheduled mine... And @CatMeow in regards to an earlier question: I'd say it's pretty common to apply multiple times. The grad students I spoke to this year at each college definitely had several rounds (only 1 lucked out with 1 year 1 school!).
Hope everyone does great on their interviews!

I all!

Yale - Interview
Anyone hear from BU yet?
-
@espooky Yale breaks down the cost of tuition on their site now, it's very clear! Does anyone know the general cost of Northwestern?
-
Break a leg! I bet the finances will work out. If you can, will you let me know what you thought of the program after you interview?
-
@ManderLemon How did Sarah Lawrence go? Did you learn anything? I did not apply this year, but was curious for future years. It looks expensive tho!
Good luck everyone. This grad school thing is just short of a mind fuck. If I'm ever in the 1%, I'm creating more grad programs and full funding for theatre makers. And if socialism ever works out I'm lobbying for state funded theatres that train directors

@Picaresque Congrats!! I just messaged you! Only a few of us on here applied this year I believe.
-
@_RICdirects_ One of my friends went to Memphis and loved it! Hope it works out. I hear it's not all that unwelcoming for northerners May I ask how did you hear from BU? Did you interview?
Fingers crossed for all waitlisters! and congrats @Boseph16 -

@galbi7892 I am so with you. I'm only waiting on Boston but I don't think anyone on here applied so I have 0 barometer on whether or not they are interviewing. I'm hoping the website is correct and they really won't tell me until March. We'll see.
Wish I could help you with yours!
And yes, congrats @Boseph16! Fingers crossed for you!
-
(Also, I find interviews on Skype to be strange- it's like a phone call but they can see you... so if you felt weird about it, you are not alone).
-
@galbi7892 wow cool. Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in that kind of theatre too. I'm curious if when you get an interview if you'll find there to be much diversity in the faculty there- looking on the website there is none...
In regards to your question about interviews: As you've probably noticed from the forum, a lot of schools call in waves. So do not give up hope in hearing back about particular interviews yet!
-
@galbi7892 Why do you love VTech? I haven't heard much about it. If there's anything I'm learning from this forum is that there are a lot of great American schools. I'd be interested to hear from anyone why they like UMAmherts too. I don't know either of these programs more than what they have written on their website. Please share!

@AgentMike I didn't.
Just incase anyone else is wondering about rejection letters. Yale posts it on the portal to your application. So, I didn't get an email until a week after they posted the rejection.
I'm waiting to hear from Boston. If anyone hears of anything about their calls, please let me know! I know exactly zero people applying to that school. I'll share if I hear anything.
-
@Boseph16 You never know what they'll offer you - you should go and wait until they offer you a package to say "no." I had a friend who went to UCLA and really loved the program. She got a lot out of it. The great thing about being on either coast is the coastal connections you'll make. It's not as well knitted in LA as it is in NYC, but UCLA is connected to the Geffen Playhouse.
Also, check out The House Theatre or The Hypocrites in Chicago if you have a chance- their stuff is really imaginative.
@Loose.tap.screws congrats on the interview. Seems like it went well.

@Loose.tap.screws Did you end up applying to BU this year?

Congrats all on interviews. i'm returning to work. more prep for projects i'm interested in to keep my mind off the emails ;). did anyone else apply to BU? i'm curious about their timeline on interviews since the app due date was 1/15.

Yes, I did. I'm curious if anyone's school has come out with a comprehensive plan like Yale's? If so or if not, please DM me so we can chat...
