  1. I applied to work with a couple teachers in the Cognitive concentration. I just realized that on my application I indicated the two teacher I wanted to work with but I forgot to write "Cognitive" under concentration (oops). Anyway, I don't recall anyone mentioning they got an interview. On the website they don't mention that they interview people and I remember someone writing that Tufts doesn't do formal interviews.
  2. Hey, I applied to that program too. Do you know if they conducted interviews? Or does this subprogram not conduct them?
  3. I'm international, so things may be different for me but in response to your question: CUNY: I applied to Cognition, Brain & Behavior. I have not heard anything yet. Don't forget though, it's written on the website that they don't always conduct interviews. My friend applied last year and got in without an interview. He ended up going to a different uni though. Temple: had a formal phone interview in January. The POI said I'd be speaking to other faculty members "soon". Considering they were snowed in for 10 days and are probably under a whole load of stress, (and they haven't replied to an email I sent 2 weeks ago) I'm going to keep waiting on that one. Northeastern: I had an informal Skype interview with the POI in early January.
  4. I heard CMU Psych already had their interview weekend. I saw on the results search that interview weekend at UChicago is end of feb...
  5. I really hope so. I had an amazing interview at Notre Dame and the POI really wanted me and pushed. At the last second his funding got cut so I got rejected. I've lost hope in the system, lol. I know BU sent out CLINICAL interview stuff in late January. I applied to the biology brain and behavior thing. So I dunno what that means. I've essentially given up. If I get good news, great. If not, at least I'm mentally preparing myself to go to the states and repeat my MA and improve my chances for a PhD program
  6. I applied to CMU psych. Nothing yet, but I saw a post on the forum that interview weekend is end of feb, so I'm pretty much out I guess
  7. I worry about deadlines more. Like, if the deadline was Dec. 1 and you haven't heard from them yet...that's probably a bad thing (even if the school isn't top 50).
  8. I got an interview for the brain and cognition thing. But it was a phone interview cuz i'm international. I was supposed to speak to other profs but I haven't heard anything since like jan 20. i figure it's because they were snowed in at philly for like 10 days. so i'm still holding out hope... i emailed my POI 2 weeks ago with a little reminder but he didn't reply. gonna email again at the end of feb. cuz if i'm out, at least reply to my email, lol
  9. Argh, I think I'd rather not know for now. Let me get my first acceptance, then I'll email everyone else. I don't think I can handle anymore bad news, especially if it's self-inflicted.
  10. Yeah, I wouldn't email POIs about stuff like that because you have no idea how busy they are. I had a phone interview at Temple (because I'm international) and my POI said that he wanted me to speak to other profs. 2 weeks later I sent a friendly reminder and he didn't reply. So it's been a month total of me waiting just for him to SET UP another phone interview. I was about to get really angry but then I remembered that they are in Philadelphia which was snowed in for like 10 days. They are probably so over their heads with work right now I'm probably the least of their worries. Only email if they are supposed to get back to you but didn't.
  11. I guess we'll find out soon enough then
  12. Well, I've gotten 3 interviews so far (phone interviews). So I guess I'm semi-safe? Argh.
  13. I received this in my inbox: "We have forwarded your application to our admissions committee in the Department of Psychology, and are in the midst of making the complex and difficult selections from among a large number of highly qualified applicants" I'm wondering if everyone got it or if they rejected some people already. Is it possible that they already rejected people and we are the second batch or we are the first one? I know some schools will reject people with low scores initially and then forward the application to the department. I'm unsure, however, how UChicago works...
  14. LOL! I thought domestic applicants would know more about the process *sighs* Guess we are all in the same boat!
  15. I'm an extremely impatient person hehe, and I don't know much about the application process because I'm international. I heard that if I dont' hear back from most schools for an interview request by mid to end of February then I'm probably not getting into that school. Now, if that is so, why don't they just reject me the second they send out all the interviews? Is it possible for me to get into a school without an interview? Or do they have rounds of interviews, like the most outstanding candidates are interviewed first then later on they'll send more requests? I'd much rather know now that I'm rejected than have to wait till march/april if they already sent out interview requests. Help an ignorant international applicant please!
  16. Oh you heard back from UChicago? Hmm...but you are social psych. Do you know if they make the decisions for each track separately? Argh, I wish these schools would just reject me already. When I don't hear back from them they give me hope, lol, but if I haven't gotten an interview by now, I dunno what it means :S
  17. I wish I could have gotten experience at a hospital, but in my uni, you aren't allowed to work with clinicians if you are an undergrad. Argh, no I totally get where you are coming from. I was supposed to be part of a research study using a thermal scanner, but the person providing the scanner lied to the POI so the research fell through. Ridiculous right? The GRE is a ridiculous concept. It only tests how good a test-taker you are...but I knew that it would make a difference so I studied my ass off.
  18. I got rejected from Ann Arbor the same time as everyone else. Since my interviews are through Skype or phone calls, I do them earlier than the actual interview weekend. The problem is that you can only speak to one prof at a time by phone. So they make me wait AGES between emails to set up more interviews (which is honestly excruciating). I would much rather see them all in one day and be over with it.
  19. I know that many factors affect your acceptance to a PhD program like scores, research experience, etc. But the case is somewhat different for internationals, right? I mean, I hear some schools have an international "quota" or that other unis look at us the same as domestics. I, for example, was unable to get ANY research experience in my field (cognitive neuroscience); that would make me look bad if I were American, I guess. But in my case, this is true simply because no academic institution in my country owns an fMRI machine (or even a PET scanner). I wrote that in my SOP and I hope schools take it into consideration, but I don't know. I have research experience (6 months as an RA in marine bio, worked a bit on social psych, and my MA thesis work). Everyone talks about being a good "fit". I interpret that as whether or not I *want* to do research the POI is doing, because there is no way I could have experience in that field so it sucks. You guys in the states are really lucky. At least you have the opportunity to work during or after undergrad in research labs in the field you want to work in. I'm finishing my MA in spring and if I stay here, there is no way I could improve my application because there is no way I'd have access to psych research labs because they don't exist lol. Any other internationals in this forum feeling my pain? Peace and love to all!
  20. I took it twice. The first time was in 2008 and I got a 1330; 740 Q, 590 V, and 5.5 AW. Considering I'm international, I figured if I could raise my english score, that would make me look a lot better. I took it again in 2009 and got a 1410 total; 710 Q, 700 V, and 5.5 AW. Some schools (like Tufts and New School) ask for the highest scores, so that's good. For other schools I'd just report the most recent one. I don't regret taking it again. I also took the subject GRE (got a 780, 97th percentile). Many people with lower scores than myself will get in based on their research experience. I come from Lebanon, and even though I'm currently getting an MA in psych (my BS was in bio) you simply do not have the same opportunities as in the states so I felt I had to score as high as I could on the standardized tests so schools would even bother giving me a chance. So far, so good with 3 phone interviews, but it's no guarantee.
  21. I applied to the psych phd program AND the MA program MAPSS and have heard nothing yet...i'm almost certainly getting into MAPSS (i'd like to think so anyway) because they had sent me an email based on my GRE score and i am getting an MA now...but it sucks that all i've gotten is one rejection and NOTHING else lol
