04/04/16: I received a sweet 'deferral' from matriculation from Tulane. So, I have one year to check out my dream job...if I am not happy...see ya in Nola in Fall 2017! I will be doing global health services research (public health). -
04/05/16: I received my beautiful rejection from BU! The admission committee claimed that they received lots of applications of only 6-8 slots. 04/04/16: I received a sweet 'deferral' from matriculation from Tulane. So, I have one year to check out the dream job...if I am not happy...see ya in Nola in Fall 2017!

Tulane is a clear choice. Their strong program guarantees you success not only on the job market, but for the DrPh issues. I might be biased, I got into Tulane's DrPH two weeks ago, so I know the university well. Unfortunately, even though I was happy to get in....i'm not going. Good luck!

When everything has been considered, your top most priority must be: which program enhances your chances of getting your dream job? Given that measure, Pitt wins, because its low cost but similar rankings with BU means you are likely to get a job coming out of both programs. When I use rational reasoning, I choose Pitt When I use irrational factors....like the fact that Boondock Saints (1999) was filmed in Boston or that Alexander Graham Bell taught at BU, then of course I choose BU! I always choose the irrational decision because it makes me happy.

Admitted to The University of Kentucky! Received the letter today! My results so far; Rejections: Tufts -DrPH, UMinnesota -PhD, UAB - DrPH Admits: Tulane - DrPH, Kentucky -DrPH Waiting: Ohio State -PhD, Boston University -DrPH, UIC - DrPH, Texas - DrPH, Texas A&M -DrPH Effing mistake by the admission office, rendering my application 'defunct': UCLA! (I could have used the $45+$90 application fees to buy myself a sweet lunch, used the remainder to go to dinner! ).

PhD Applicants: Fall 2016

Doesn't make sense. I mean, it's almost April 1st. Surely, if you are part of the admission committee, what is the logic in 'sleeping with admission decisions under your pillow'...? Why not SEND them out? Why not? -
:)! I was in a position similar to you. My GPA was 2.48, from biology. As I looked at what to do, all the public health schools sort of laughed at me with their 'have a 3.0 gpa or nothing'. I turned around the issue, by doing some courses, by doing some programs. Mostly, my aim was to make the issue of my 2.48 gpa irrelevant. Do additional programs, masters, took me a while, about three years. Armed with the new grades I applied to higher and higher competitive schools, to such a point that now, I can get into any school for any program. My point is that, just find ways to make the gpa less important by: performing better in standardized exams, by taking more courses, etc. It requires a lot of time, but if you really want to follow your dream like I did, you can do it.

Yeah, tough choice. I really have to decide: going for the job or giving that up and choosing Tulane. What makes it very very hard is that I have worked all my life to get such a job. On the other hand, I have spent a lifetime fighting to get my drph, literally. I'm leaning on giving up the job (even though I already accepted it) and going to Tulane. I am waiting for funding information. If I get full funding...then I am choosing Tulane. I have heard nothing from Texas A&M. I think I have only received one email from them, back in Jan, about how my file was complete. Good luck and hang in there!

I only received the acceptance letter via email. The letter was from the general school of public health. They said the letters/emails from the specific department will be the one containing funding information. I am waiting for those emails/letters now...

So, I accepted a $100k+ job offer this week. This means that my drph/phd hopes are officially dead. I had applied to these schools in case mba job offers were measly. Even though I wont attend if admitted, I am not withdrawing my applications, I want to see what happens! I might apply next year to the part time drphs or any others.

There are NO quotas, ever! If you talk about quotas, it implies that there is a law stating that only 2 out of 10 will be international. There are no such quotas in the US at any school at any level of education. The ratios (NOT quotas) between international vs. domestic, is up to the discretion of the admission officers, program directors. They can admit more or less internationals, it is up to them....depending on funding, academic standards etc.

congruts on the admits guys! -
@Pszczolka Nice update. Must be tough then, I mean for the BU. I recently received the standard email that the adcom is reviewing my file. I think that my application is a long shot one. Your statements just confirmed my worst fears.....means I have just lost all hope. What a shame! So....I guess I will start the wait for the rejection letter. :(.

Yeah, funding is an issue. But I am committed. I will just have to find out, search for scholarships etc. If I get into the right program, I will find the money.

I think they just want to know you as a person. Take this as an opportunity to get to know the program, the people. Share your vision with the interviewer. This is great news for you. Good luck. -
Nice thread. I too applied to a few DrPH programs, including Tufts, Tulane etc. My Sophas file just became complete, so I should be hearing from some of them soon. Good luck guys....
