  1. Yea I heard they do it all the time. They gave me a 3-year package but after that I'm on my own. I'll look for opportunities-mainly in my home country-during my time there. Wouldn't have gone with only 1 year of funding though, it would have been too difficult to find funding from one year to the next. So this is good, especially because the first 3 years in this program are when you actually have to be there full time.
  2. Sorry I didn't see your message until now. Both tuition and stipend. Philosophy and Education is very similar to History and Education (they actually share the same office space in the building) so they might give similar financial packages!
  3. Hey going to Teachers College because they gave me full funding, apparently it's not what they usually do but this year they took less people so they had packages available. And it's a very small program (History and Education). Anyway, pumped! New York is definitely scary but I'm excited!
  4. Yes, I've decided to go because they're funding me for the next 3 years. They're paying for most tuition, but not all of it. They offered me a position as a research assistant that covers the rest, and then there's a stipend. I also have a Fulbright scholarship from my home country, which will help a lot. New York is very expensive. It wasn't supposed to be like this at first, but I told my department that I couldn't go without funding. Emails went back and forth and they made their final offer 2 weeks after I got the acceptance letter. Again, it's because it's a very small program. Maybe they have 2 or 3 doctoral students coming every year, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only one. You should really break down the cost of your education, and maybe talk to current students. I come from France, and the idea of being in debt to get an education was really counter-intuitive for me. I don't think I would've ended up going without full funding.
  5. Hey, you should get your "award letter" sometimes next week. They're pretty quick. Funding depends on your program (I'm History and Education, it's a very small program so they had more funding possibilities than for bigger programs). Generally, it looks like you shouldn't expect much help from TC. You can call the Office of Financial Aid for more details.
  6. Hi, it's for a PhD program in History and Education!
  7. Hi, I got my acceptance from TC yesterday. If you have gmail, check your "Promotion" folder. I think every program has a different timeline (I'm History and Education). I was so excited to get the news, but was notified today that I wouldn't get funding because my department doesn't offer any type of financial aid this year. So disappointing. I might not be able to attend. Anyway, good luck to you!
  8. Thanks! Currently trying to figure out financials because it looks like TC doesn't fund graduate students... And they sent me no info regarding funding so I assume it means I didn't get a scholarship. Regardless, I feel blessed!
  9. Just got my acceptance for Columbia, PhD in History of Education! I really can't believe it. DREAM PROGRAM and after being rejected from Harvard and Stanford, I had lost all faith. But fit is really all that counts. Keep hoping guys!
  10. Thanks!!! I double-checked and I'm in!!! THRILLED!! With scholarship too! After 2 rejects, this feels so good!
  11. SAME HERE! Same email, same problem. Pretty frustrating.
  12. I think it's just for admits, I was rejected (not officially, but no interview) and it still says "Submitted". No idea why they won't let us know officially...
  13. I applied to M.S.Ed (ECS) and haven't heard back. This is week 9 for me. Two weeks ago, a professor who knows a friend of mine said that we should hear "shortly" about applications. Intentionally vague term, so I'm being patient.
  14. Congratulations!! So awesome that you got a scholarship too!!
  15. CONGRATS!!!! Glad you heard back, especially since you had applied so early in the year. Did you get a call or an email? Very happy for you!!
  16. Still waiting too. I applied Nov 20. This is week 8..............
  17. Hey, my email was in a hidden folder in gmail. Not even spam folder. So I typed "Stanford" in the search section of my email and found the rejection... yikes. At least it's an answer.
  18. Sorry to hear that, but congrats on your other acceptance! I feel like a lot of people heard back this morning, so I'm wondering when my email will come... I keep checking email and application system, but nothing yet the wait is pretty painful
  19. Sorry to see that people got their rejection letter from Stanford GSE in SHIPS Linguistics PhD. I'm pretty sure the rest of us will hear soon too... (I'm SHIPS-RILE PhD). Good luck everyone, with Stanford and with other schools!!
  20. I ask myself the same questions. I didn't connect with any professor prior to applying, and I'm starting to doubt that decision. I'm from France, where "networking" is not at all something we're used to do, so I didn't email anyone or anything. I tend to think that it could annoy professors, unless you have legit questions or need advice!
  21. Just saw on the result page that someone got into SHIPS! Huge congrats! Makes me pretty worried because I haven't heard back (SHIPS-RILE PhD applicant). Just getting over not having been contacted by Harvard, so pretty bummed. I wonder if they send everything on the same day or not. Maybe today's the day.
  22. Wow!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! You must be so excited!!!
  23. Whoever got into SHIPS, huge congrats!!! From past threads, it looks like they reject everybody. Personally expecting a nice rejection.
