Thank you for providing "a forum for hope!"

My application had been "Under Review" for nearly a month, so I finally called the department and learned that I was first on a ranked wait list. I am pleased to report that I just received a personal email of acceptance from the chair of my doctoral program.

I believe that God has a plan for each of us and that we'll end up exactly where we're meant to be! Although I'm not particularly religious, my mother reminded me to have faith during this challenging time. She reminded me that "faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen."

Best wishes to all of you who as you transition from "waitlisted" to "accepted!"

I don't understand, why is Columbia univ in New York and not District Columbia and why is Washington DC in district Columbia and not in Washington state. Also why is Cambridge univ not in Cambridge,MA... now that I am at it, I am not sure why I am writing about it in this thread..

I have heard from people that sometimes the decision emails end up in spam folder.

Never in my life have I ever been so excited to have an unread spam email.

Found this on another forum. Really hope someone sends this out and then gets accepted.

Sure, getting in from the waitlist means you are not their top choice. But it's not like the school was like "ugh, now we have to start accepting from these losers in the waitlist". Remember that there are many more applications that did not make it onto the waitlist and many others on the waitlist that will not get offers. In my field, graduate admits happen at the 5% to 10% level. If you get in off the waitlist, it means you probably were in the top 10% to 20%, instead of the top 10% of applicants. It's not a bad thing at all--if the school is a program you are interested in, no one will know whether you got in from the waitlist or the first list.

I have a friend who applied to several Masters programs along with his girlfriend... He did get into his top choice university but as his girlfriend didn't get into that program, hence he gave up on his top choice to join the program where his girlfriend got in. They are engaged now. :-) So the point really is, what do you prioritize the more, your relationship or your career. Frankly, if it had been me, I would have never given up on my top choice program, but then again that probably is the reason that I will be spending valentines day sitting in my room and commenting on different topics on this forum... :-)

Guys thanks a lot for the responses. You have been very helpful.

So I think that the best way now is to just wait up for the decision and hope for the best.
