  1. Yes I second off campus housing site (very safe since you need a student id to access) and I checked craigslist as well. Boston is college heavy and full of young adults. It's also very expensive so everyone does roommates. I was lucky enough to actually visit there for a few days. The school is very beautiful deff hogwarts feel for sure with the gothic architecture. As a Floridian it is a drastic change and I am pretty sure you will feel the same coming from California, Bless our hearts this upcoming winter. The staff was nice and accommodating there. It wasn't my number one choice but after my visit there I am pleased with my decision. Looking forward to hopefully meeting all you guys. I will be starting summer so I can be of any help to you guys starting in the fall let me know.
  2. I simply emailed and asked for more.Pretty much thanking them for acceptance, thanking them for the financials that were given, and then asking for more and explaining briefly why I was in need of more assistance. They awarded me more it wasn't much more but every dollar counts.
  3. I am doing clinical track. I want to have my own practice one day. My dream job is to become a military or veteran social worker right out of school. I always heard a lot of good things about working in that area also I will gain so much experience. I did Child Welfare for my BSW focus and I thought of continuing on but as much as love children I didn't like the system as a whole in FL.
  4. I was in a worse place I really wanted to go to UW and I was admitted for advanced standing to start in June. I was told I won't know if I was awarded any scholarships or a fellowship until May. It's awful we are put in a position to make such a major financial decision with nothing to stand on. I ended up going to BC they had a lot squared away early and was the first to accept me as well. I am still tempted to put down a Deposit with UW but I already signed a summer lease in Boston and in the process or finding a field placement.
  5. BC tends to be the most generous of the three from my personal experience compared to Penn and Colombia and they all have similar tuitions . They are also really good programs that offers a lot of experience. I lean to BC or Penn.
  6. No. Well some schools are on it but some schools are very casual about something as important as this. In my case it sucked because I am expected to start classes in June yet I only recieved 1 out of 4 packages and it came today Apr 4. By the way the the one package I received only packed me for fall and winter/spring and my summer package is still pending. I was also told by not one but two schools I got into that I won't even know if I received fellowships I applied to or extra aid or scholarships until MAY(again class starts for me in June). I went with the school that was the most upfront to me and gave me the highest scholarship.
  7. All the programs I was accepted to were pretty good ones. My choice ultimately came down to financials. You already have 70k in loans from NYU and SW isn't a 6 figure field, you have to be smart about what happens after you graduate. I already have 16k in loans from my undergrad and didn't want to finish my education with more than 50K in loans. Also look into assistantships, stipends, fellowships, work studies etc that the schools offer to get tuition or credit waivers.
  8. I got it in the mail Friday (South Florida). I am assuming you'll get yours today or tomorrow in the mail.
  9. Prestige doesn't exactly apply to Social Work as far as I know. Think financial
  10. I got a letter saying that I shouldn't wait for my financial package to simply leave my deposit to reserve my spot haha. They seem so late on everything compared with the other schools they do start in July though the other programs start in June. What I would do for a UW in-state tuition right my decision would be a no brainer.

Hey guys! I would love your feedback on several areas in helping to make my decision. These are my three choices BC UW and UD all advanced standing starting this summer. I am currently visiting Boston but financially I won't be able to visit the others schools before the April 15th decision date. Financial is an important part. None of the schools have sent me a financial package yet, other than an acceptance scholarships. I am looking feedback from the information given. I am also looking feedback on the school, program, living in those cities and any feedback beneficial feedback. University of Denver, I received a scholarship that covers about 30-35% of my tuition (I asked for more money and was turned down saying to wait for my financial package to see what I get). I was also sent a form for a child welfare stipend that ranges from 10,000-17,000 I will apply but I won't know until after the decision deadline if I was awarded the stipend. The vibe I received from my interaction with school has be really good they seem very friendly. helpful, honest and casual( my interactions with the other schools were very formal and quite uptight) Denver is a very young and youthful city but a very outdoorsy city. I love nature but I can't do that all the time. My issue with Denver itself is it's landlocked and a driving city. I own my car but I was hoping to move somewhere with an awesome public transportation system. I am coming from South FL I am over driving 30 min to get anywhere. I am also worried about the job prospects in Denver for a clinical social worker. I also know none in Denver. Boston College, I was awarded a scholarship that covers 40% of my tuition and I asked for more waiting to hear back. Boston seems to have a lot of opportunity and the program seems like an overall great one but I am unsure if I want to reside here after I graduate. The downside is I am FL boy I want seasons but I am scared of the harsh winters. I have a friend here that also attends one of the universities thats about all the people I know here but family along the northeast (NJ NY PA) so I am not too far from comfort. Boston is also very expensive to live. Rent is almost close to NYC prices and I can't see why? I can see why public transit is so great here because the roads are close to the ones, may I saw worse than I've seen in South America and the Caribbean. I will be bringing my car and Boston seems to hate that fact (haha) with the lack of parking and expensive car insurance. University of Washington, the program seems like an amazing program with a great international reach and very open place. Seattle seems like a cool mix of city and outdoor lifestyle which is very me. It's close to vancouver and portland which I think is a plus because I love traveling and going on weekend adventures. UW is not cheap program for out of state students and they told me directly not to expect much in scholarships or grants from them. While the tuition and living is cheaper compared to Boston and Denver. With the lack of aid it seems like I will be almost paying the same or even more along with the other schools. I am not sure about the job market in Seattle so I would love some feedback. I am aware that they do have some of the highest Social Worker salaries. I am also aware of the dreary 6 plus months of cloudy skies and endless drizzle. I actually like the rain. I also know none in Seattle I have close friends in Portland and Eugene though. With all that said please give me some feedback? Thanks (sorry for my terrible writing in advance kept editing things)
  12. From what i'm told the PSFL is doable and isn't as restrictive as NHSC. A lot of the agencies where I live operate as nonprofits so a lot of the MSW's I encountered were enrolled in it. I've heard the opposite about NHSC though.
  13. I got into Penn but into the 2 year full-time program because of that I probably won't go there. The other schools i've been accepted to I recieved 1 year advanced standing. While Penn has a strong program and was on my shortlist doubling my tuition and spending an extra year out of the job market is simply not worth it for me. I asked them to reconsider it but I am not too hopeful.
  14. I'm only waiting on UW to make my final decision. It's definitely nerve wracking since I applied to advanced standing which isn't much time to pack up a move across the country.
  15. That pretty cool to hear. Is it bad to ask for more, then not end up going? Did they press you to make a decision after you were awarded more aid.
  16. Thank You! I am very appreciative of your response. A lot of my research matches up to what you said so I know I am on the right path. I replaced my car less than a year ago to something new because it was totalled so I won't be leaving my baby at home but I will be switching to boston plates (maybe uber my car for some extra cash since it will be parked a lot it sounds). Your current winter has scared this FL boy though. I also made a BC offcampus housing profile just two days ago, my only wish is for more grad postings. BC gave me a scholarship that covers about 40% of my tuition which is good but compared to my other option but not the best, when I factor in the cost of living in Boston. My goal is to take out no more than 25k in loans. Boston is pulling me in though. Again thank you.
  17. From Ft. Lauderdale. I didn't even apply to any FL schools as a safety, I meant to apply to FSU but I didn't get around to taking my GRE. UW is my top choice but I was told they offer little to no aid. I've been strongly leaning to BC and I don't even know why, an inkling I suppose. (BC Advanced Placement)
  18. Hi! I am strongly considering BC but the cost is scaring me. How would you rate the overall program from your experience? What are the cheapest and safest neighborhoods close to campus? Also is there a specific websites to find other grad school roommates? (sorry for all the questions)
  19. I also got into BC and strongly thinking of going. I am coming from FL as well.
  20. I am not a grad student yet but I decided to take the risk. I am leaving my family and my friends and deciding to move to a new city where I know none. I always wanted to leave after High School but somehow I ended up staying and it bugged me. It's honestly a dumb decision seeing that I may end up with lots of loans and with a post grad salary that is undesirable. I know I would not have been happy staying and if I did decide to stay I know it would be another 3-5 years before I have the chance to leave. I would get my MSW here, probably be offered a job here and get licensed in this state during that time, which I noped out of. I didn't want to live with this regret again but you still have to be realistic and count the real cost.
  21. I applied to NYU really late (today lol). I was strapped for cash and rounded down my schools from 8 to 4 schools in December. I got an email from NYU saying they extended the deadline to Feb 20 so I still had time. I ended up applying because after missing the original deadline for some reason it bugged me that I didn't take a stab at NYU. I hope I hear back by March. Anyone knows if they are generous with their financial package? New York City is such as expensive place but like so many others the thought of living there seems really exciting.
  22. It seems like a lot of people here applied to UW. It's my top pick as well. Every time they send me an email about something my heart jumps out of chest. From what i've read it seems like late Feb. for early decision and late March for regular decision. I am in the late March, the next couple weeks will be long.
