  1. That's kind of what I expected @lindsey8, but I'm glad you agree. I really hope we get the official letter soon! I wonder how long it'll be until they send those. There's a little part of me that's still in disbelief, and won't accept that I actually got in until I have the paper letter in my hand! This is mostly me being impatient and wanting to know everything now. But I feel very lucky to at least know for sure where I'll be attending come this fall.
  2. Hi everyone! As we're all beginning to hear back (hopefully good news) about admissions decisions, I'm wondering what the timeline is for hearing about funding decisions. It seems to work a little different for SLP programs than some others. In my acceptance letter (email), it said, "The department will send you a detailed letter with provisions and other details in the upcoming weeks." That seems rather vague, and I'm not sure if that means in a week or two, or more like a month or two. Can I expect to hear about funding when I get my "official" letter of acceptance from the school? Personally, this isn't going to affect my decision of where to attend, since I got into my dream school, which happens to be less expensive than the other school I applied to, even before funding. (Yes, I only applied to two programs. Thank goodness I got in!) But I'm sure for others, knowing about whether or not there's a GA or fellowship included in the admissions offer will make a big difference as to the final decision. Can anyone shed some light on this aspect of the admissions process?
  3. Oh no! That must be really annoying to deal with. I can relate, in that I too have a very visceral reaction to stress. Although admittedly, I have yet to break out in hives. I completely agree that our bodies natural, if inconvenient reactions to streess shouldn't be a source of embarrassment or shame. I do understand your prof's concern, but it made me chuckle. You should get a doctor's note excusing you from public speaking! Or maybe try toastmasters?
  4. Oh no! I'm so sorry gingin! That was a really rotten thing for them to do. Especially on a day when you should be celebrating! As you said, your mom, husband and siblings are all on board. That IS what is most important. So let "someone" have his/her feelings and resentment, and you do your thing. Don't let them spoil your victory of getting into these great programs. Because that's what it is. It's a great big awesome victory! I know you are already giving strong consideration to the distance from your husband when making this decision. And only you know what is best for the two of you. You aren't making this decision unilaterally, from what you've told me, your husband has supported you through this process 100%. And while being apart would be tough, it does not destroy your marriage. That's B.S. Can I be mad at this "someone" for you? I'll do it, so you don't have to. You can celebrate instead!
  5. I don't think it's critical that you have ASL experience to get into Gallaudet. I think it's much more important that you show your interest in ASL and the Deaf community. Or perhaps in some broader way, like an interest in language, or in working with people with disabilities? You have to take three levels of ASL while in the program, unless you place out. But it seems like you have to be fairly proficient in order to place out of even the first level! I didn't apply to Gallaudet, but I did go to their open house. Are you applying this year (2/15 deadline)?
  6. Let me know when you decide lindsey! It would be great to meet some of our cohort before the semester starts! Don't tell GW, but I don't really feel like it matters that much now whether I get in there or not. It's a great school, but it was myback up plan. I don't need a backup plan anymore, so yay! If I do get in, then I'll give up my spot for someone who really wants to go there.
  7. Congratulations @lindsey8! Do you think you'll attend, or are you waiting for other schools before you decide? Aw, I'm sorry @Puffer Fish. I hope you hear back soon! This was just the first round of acceptances, so don't give up hope yet!
  8. That's right! (And luckily it was my 1st choice!!!!)
  9. Wow! Nope, haven't heard back yet, but it does look like they've sent my app to the grad school. OMG, I swear, I was halfway through typing this when my phone notified me that I had an email. Me: "Oh good, another email that probably isn't an acceptance." WRONG!!!! I just got into UMD!!!!!!!!! And then I fell off the face of the earth for an hour while I did a happy dance and called everybody and their grandmother (or at least my grandmother!) Thank you all for your amazing support! You guys rock, and I hope you get your good news soon!
  10. *Squeals!* I'm so happy for you!!! Are you planning to accept or are you waiting to hear back from other schools first?
  11. Haha! Yes, let's have a virtually party. I'll bring the cupcakes!
  12. WHAT?!?!? The day after your graduation? How did you not spontaneously combust that week @Cat_Robutt? Glad it all worked out though! Etsy is great, and I have some very crafts-y people who want to help with planning and decorations. Also, we hired a planner. We'll have time for a two-week honeymoon before I have to start grad school, assuming I'm admitted for this fall. It'll be great! And yes congrats @pterosaur and @rhombusbombus, and all of you who have started getting acceptances! I'm still waiting on mine, but hopefully they'll come soon!!!
  13. Oh no. I'm so sorry to here it. There's always next year though!
  14. Yeah! And, you know a wedding to plan. Less than 5 months left! Eek!!!
  15. Yup, it's 10:30 here. Same time as NYC. Are they only sending emails at 10:30 in the morning? Good luck!
  16. Me too! I woke up right around 5:15 and could not get back to sleep for the life of me. When I looked at the clock, I was so disappointed that it wasn't closer to a "I might possibly hear something during this time" time. And I couldn't fall asleep last night until around 2. I kept trying to convince myself that the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner it would be morning, but it didn't help. So, here goes my day, with all 3 hours of sleep I managed...
  17. Oh no! I hope it gets fixed soon, and there's no lasting damage!
  18. This is so funny @Cat_Robutt! It's totally like having a crush on someone. Valentine's day has always felt like a darkly comic day to me. At least until last year. Last year my fiancé proposed on V-day!
  19. Are the school's in your signature in green the one's you've been accepted to? If so, it looks like your family and recommenders were appropriately optimistic! But yes, it seems the fear of disappointing them is always present, no matter how strong your application is.
  20. My programs give decisions between the beginning of February and the middle of April. Not really a narrow window, but I feel like there is a decent chance I'll hear back from at least one school this week. I hope.
  21. That would be comforting to hear for sure. Not being accepted is not the same thing as not being good enough for grad school.
  22. Happy birthday @BooksCoffeeBeards! Don't worry too much about the first rejection (I know that feels impossible, but try not too!) The whole grad school acceptance process seems shrouded in secrecy, which means there's always that x-factor schools are looking for and you just can't plan for. Maybe the other 6 schools will think you're the most awesome English Lit candidate ever, and you'll get into all of them! Or maybe you'll get into 3, but still have some good options. Just don't give up hope yet. Especially not on your birthday!
  23. Ugh, I know what you mean! Everyone, my parents, my grandmother, my fiancé's parents and so on, all keep saying "I'm sure you'll get in!" My response is always to remind them how competitive these programs are, but they don't seem to think there's a chance I won't get in. I'm terrified that I won't get into school because I really, really want to go to grad school this fall, but also because they'll all be so disappointed. Hopefully that won't happen! The only one who has said "It'll be okay if you don't" is my fiancé, and I'm not convinced that he completely believes it either.
  24. I know! I'm trying to tell myself that I shouldn't expect anything until at least Friday. I have two exams to take this week!
