  1. Wow, 357 applicants! That's uncommon for new and developing program. I think there applicant deadline was Feb 1st, so I'm assuming it's going to be at least another week..probably longer some department is so new and they probably weren't expecting all those applications.
  2. I've not heard from UDEL. I don't even know when they are posting acceptances. Anyone heard from or know when we can expect to hear from and the method of notification: Marshall U Indiana U of PA California U of PA University of Delaware West Carolina U East Tennessee State Western Kentucky University Online Part time
  3. Anyone heard from NAU summers-only track? I see people have gotten acceptances for the full time track. It's making me nervous.
  4. Hi, Has anyone been accepted off the waitlist yet? Accepting the spot or declining? Anyone waiting to hear? Either way please share your stats and experience. Please also share the other schools your have been accepted or waitlisted at! Additionally, anyone receive a scholarship or GA position here?
  5. Hey, I emailed the Director of the program recently to get some more information. They receive about 200 applications each year for 15 spots. They have a 20 criteria that they use to decide on acceptance. The GPAs are typically above 3.5 and GRE scores are at or above 50 percentile. However, they said that some students don't have these requirements but, score higher on the other criteria which pulls up their overall score for acceptance. They also said they prefer those who have some type of background in ASL! She said about 1/3 of graduates move on to work with the deaf population. Hope this helps. It looks like you have a good shot based on your stats and experience!Goodluck!
  6. Your GPA just made the mark for being considered as competitive. If you have at least a 4.5 on GRE writing and combined score of 307 on SAT you will have a chance at Towson University. Maybe waitlisted for your GPA though. Most GPA averages on the East Coast are 3.75. You should check on the individual school websites on this information though. See how many applications they have received over past two years and see if you meet their averages. If you meet them all, then you are a good candidate and should apply. Don't apply to West Chester's SLP program. They have lost their accreditation in the past, which has left students stranded to find another program.
  7. @takeuwithme Almost all schools require at least two LORS from academic professors. They prefer them over employers. Again, you have to ask schools how they view SLPA. It's different for all of them. I have read posts too many times of SLPAs who have been in field for 3-5 years, bilingual, good grades, but can't get into grad school. They've been out of school for some time and lack strong letters of recommendation and in 3-5 years of time didn't push themselves to pursue it.
  8. Sorry, Bcopela1@ju.edu*
  9. Yea, Brittany Copeland. She's the Academic Advisor for College of Health Sciences. Bcopela@ju.edu They also over 5 grad Assistantships (various departments) that give a 10K stipend and partial meal plan! Check their student employment out.
  10. If anyone is still interested in testing their luck with one more school, I confirmed Jacksonville University is still accepting applications until May 15th for this Fall!! They still have spots! They have only recieved over 200 applications, average combined GRE scores 290, with an average writing of 3.5. ASHA says they accept students 2.44-3.75 GPA. They seem to be a newer program, next Accrediation Review is February 2018. Tuition is $47,080 without doing an optional semester. There seem to be a few graduate assistantships available in other departments but, can't find them on the website yet. Hope this helps!

  14. If you have been out of school for some time, your best bet is to take a few CSD classes to get strong reccomendation letters. But, again I would check with schools. Don't lose hope! Also, this is not every school's opinon.

  16. Contact potential grad schools to see how they view SLPA. Most schools I asked on the East Coast said it does not matter. Doesn't hurt or greatly add to application. University of Maryland said any experience looks good, shows you are commited to the field and can be a great resource for your essay application. My mentor told me that some schools could turn their nose up to SLPAs because it doesn't show ambition to pursue SLP career and if you become an SLPA for more than a year and you lose contact with professors then your less likely to have strong reccomendation letters.
  17. Why don't you take a few extra classes to up your CSD GPA? Comm. D. electives, ASL, etc? You can apply as a leveling or post-bacc student and only take a few courses. Or you can apply as a non-degree seeking student (undergrad or grad). Online programs are highly competitive because they get so many applicants. I would do your best to steer clear of those if you choose to apply again. You should defiently reach out to schools and see if they will consider taking G.P.A.'s below 3.5. Also, getting your writing score and math score up to at least the 50th percentile will help.
  18. HAHA, I keep getting those Towson e-mails too! Haha, I don't want to see any of your other programs, lol. Let me know if you hear from anyone! I honestly don't understand why you were waitlisted. You're scores and GPA are good!
  19. My best advice is to screen schools by emailing or calling directors to ask these important questions below. This is considering the fact that the program websites and ASHA ed find stats are not up to date. The program requirements can also be misleading, when they say minimum G.P.A. is 3.25. However, average G.P.A. accpetance is 3.7. Huge disparity. Therefore, us students have a hard time deciding which schools are actually a good fit, so we apply everywhere and they get 600 applications to review for 55 spots. Here are the questions you should ask below! Could you please tell me what I can do, specifically, to make myself a good candidate for your program? 1. What exactly is your criteria for accepting students? 2. Do you mainly accept your own undergrad. students? 3. How many students applied this year? 4. What were the average GRE and GPA scores for the class of 2015? Will these averages be the cutoff scores for next fall 2016? 5. To build my resume, would you suggest research experience, becoming a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, and/or additional volunteer hours? You can throw in questions on graduate assistantships available and numbe rof part-time and full-time awarded. Honestly, if you don't meet average GRE and GPA scores and there were 600 applications last year, you know this is a reach school.
  20. Unforunately, I do not. I didn't realize how competitive these programs were. I think the reason there are so many 2nd year applicants is because of the competiveness and the fact that most schools are not upfront about their GPA and GRE score cutoffs, because they would like to review 300 or more applications? lol. I don't know. Also, because of this it is difficult for students to decide what programs are the best fit for their application profile. So a lot of students are aimlesssly applying to just get in somewhere. I am so thankful for this forum, because I have learned so much about this process and other less competitive schools that are more of a "good fit" for me considering my profile. In addition, I have learned it is so important to attend information sessions and get in contact with grad programs to ask them the current statistics of the previous entering class etc. Because ASHA ed find. stats are not current and the grad school programs websites are sometimes not updated. It is truly upsetting that we are not given up to date information to make one of the most important decisions of our lives. Towson told everyone in the information session that they don't look at you if you have below a 3.5. But, they didn't mention that you MUST fall within the average or above average writing score :/. I found this out after being rejected. If I would have known, I would not have applied. Anyways, I hope you don't have to apply next year. Best of luck to you @cosmicmorgan! I have a good feeling you will get in somewhere!
  21. I feel your pain. I wasn't apart of this group either. I hate that they are giving them two weeks to decide, in the meantime they are re-reviewing applications. Meanwhile, graduate assistantship positions are filling up. I need an assistantship in order to afford this school...my chances are getting slimmer by the minute. Seems like other colleges are quicker about their waitlist.
  22. What schools did you find that had those GRE score cut offs?
  23. The earliest waitlisted acceptance I've seen on the admission results page, from the past 3 years, for Loyola is May 6th :/ Hoping they are a bit faster this year.
