I agree with you, GPA is not the only thing that guarantees MSW admission. Your personal statement, CV and reference are all counting towards the admission decision. One of my relatives was in the admission panel last year and she said GPA only weighs about 30 percent in students'  application.

Hey, just a friendly disagreement here! My GPA is 4.0 and I've received 1 rejection and a very likely rejection from York so far (I haven't heard anything and I know they sent out acceptances/waitlists), so it's not very true that a high GPA will get you into any school. I have experience as well (I'm not a working professional though), but I think research experience is where I am lacking most. So just don't get let down if you don't hear anything, sometimes it's factors out of our control! A high GPA won't necessarily guarantee an acceptance, just a heads up  

Not sure why  this forum is so quiet this year... maybe more people decide go for medical school instead of doing  MSW ? lol

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I personally don't care much about U of T's MSW program since its pedagogical approach doesn't conform with my social work value and therefore I didn't want to attend that school anyway. I did, however, respect its clinical focused teaching and  " traditional white elite" school culture. But  the whole idea of marginalizing, silencing, deprecating, humiliating and patronizing social workers who come from a different school of thought is extremely repugnant to me. I had a firsthand experience while I was doing my MSW at a UHN hospital, some of my U of T MSW colleagues actually made a formal complaint to the field education office because I was the only non U of T MSW student there. According to them, all hospitals that are affiliated with U of T should ONLY accepting U of T MSW students and I had literally stolen a spot from them! This academic hegemonism and institutional departmentalism really worries me about the future of our social work profession. 

U of t will start sending out all rejection letters next week, hope none of you will receive it!

I'm surprised that they have sent out the two year M.S.W decision before the advanced standing decisions.  I am sorry you didn't get in and I hope you get the advanced standing B.S.W.  Good luck!

I second that!! I'm currently in school, and this week has been very tough. I have a tedious assignment due at midnight tonight, and it's so hard to keep my focus and not check my email/this forum every ten minutes!

If U of T doesn't say anything about 2 year admissions today, then next week has to be the week it starts.... right?  The week we're currently in was the week admissions started for the past couple of application seasons. What do you guys think?

Yes, there are people on this very thread who have said that they have been accepted, rejected and wait listed and then there are those of us who have heard absolutely nothing back from York at all.  So it is very confusing.

I'm confused as to how York has sent out notification to people that they are on a waiting list when there are those of us who have not even heard back if we are rejected or accepted.  Would they not have to have made their decisions first before sending out notifications for being wait listed?

I applied and am still waiting to hear back from them.

Mental Health and Health is the most competitive one while Gerontology stream usually receives least applicants..... 

I am accepted at UQAM!!! 

unfortunately U of T didn't offer me any money at that time not even my 180 dollar application fee..... lol

Do you want to do your PHD in social work or other related fields ( sociology, philosophy, education, JD etc... ) I would suggest you go to u of t because of its international reputation ( especially if you apply for schools in States) and better research funding.

Donot get discouraged, York is an excellent school! I have friends did their placement in hospitals and government agencies without using any personal connections. Who knows...
