Alright, so I'm thinking I'll take 2 USU classes at a time and continue working. It will take me an extra year to get done with the post-bacc, but I think either way a lot of schools are going to hesitate at accepting someone with only one semester of pre-reqs under their belt. If I take two classes at a time I can pay for it as I go because I make pretty decent money. I'm a nanny and I really love my job, so I'm happy to stay an extra year until they go to preschool. Everyone has such great things to say about USU's online post-bacc. It's reassuring haha. Thanks for all the input!! PS if anyone knows online classes to fulfill those new ASHA requirements (physical science and statistics) that are super easy... share the info

What should I be doing now/prepping now?

How far in advance would it be sending your scores, though? -
I'm also considering the CSUN online post bacc if anyone has any advise for that. I haven't take online courses before so I'm just not sure if it's something I'll be successful in.

Has anyone worked while doing the online post bacc? I was thinking of registering for the 7 week session that starts the end of June, but I need to know if I can work my 40 hour a week job still or if I need to make some huge life changes here. Any advice? My other idea was to apply to some WOB schools for fall 2016. Any advice on doing this...? Any suggestions for affordable programs? I am having the hardest time figuring out which schools actually have a WOB program and which don't, or rarely accept students.

We sound exactly the same. I feel you on the long commute. You have your ASHA pre-reqs done already? Physical science, statistics, biological science, etc. -

How are you figuring out which schools accept WOB students? I'm so lost. -
Okay, honestly...how do y'all afford it?

We are very similar! I agree. Going deep into debt is not an option for me. I also live in california, I'd appreciate any knowledge you're willing to share! -

There was very recently another thread like this. You should read it it was very helpful to me. I'm on my phone or I would find it for you. -
We should make our own updated list on here. Anyone who makes calls, feel free to post the info! I have a hard time because I work all day and i am a nanny, so there are no breaks hahaha.

I've heard that as well about their online post-bacc. I think if you don't do an official post-bacc program you are the last to get to register for classes. I went to CSUN for undergrad and had a hard time getting classes. I wish this wasn't the case because it is so much closer and would make my life a lot easier!!!

Student Loans / Loan Forgiveness, etc.

WOW! I did not know this. Wow. Thank you so much for posting this, seriously. Any reason you feel like sharing that you didn't apply to any SoCal school? -

You're probably right. Thanks! -

So, do we feel it is a good idea to put off school for a year and work and save money...? I could probably save up at least 10,000 if I put off going to a post bacc program to fall 2016 instead of this fall. I'm 25 years old, though. So... just getting older over here I wonder if in the long run I'll be making more money sooner, so I'll be able to pay off the loan anyways, or if I'll be better off working and delaying my degree so I can take out a smaller loan. Any input/opinions? -
That does seem like it'd be hard to work around with the metro. By the way, the metro is so expensive! It's like 240 a month. I am sure gas for driving is equally bad, but jeez. That's incredible compared to other major cities. You got into the post bacc program there or the masters program? Congrats! Hopefully I get in. I submitted my application already and it's the only place I've applied. If I don't get in, I'll just spend a year working and saving up more money, taking the physical science class, and taking the GRE and will apply to other post baccs for the next year. If you got in to their post bacc with a 3.61 then I feel pretty confident. I'm also considering if it WOULD be a good idea to put it off another year and work so I can save some more money. I don't really want to take out a ton in loans.

30k including living expenses?! What school is that? Sign me up. You're young, and you do have more time to pay things off. However, you'll get a great job no matter where you go to school most likely. The school you went to isn't looked at as seriously in the SLP field, so keep that in mind too. By the time you're 27 you may want to be spending your extra money on YOU and traveling, etc. before settling down, and if you're still paying loans then you can't. -
Thank you! I went to CSUN and was originally in a program to become a teacher, so I know what you mean about some of the professors at CSU's being friendly and stuff but just not helpful and a waste of time. Would you mind answering a few questions? What times are your classes? What time does the latest class usually end? I called and got conflicting information. I'm trying to see if I could just take the metro from Santa Clarita instead of driving. Did you already take the GRE before starting the program, or are you planning on taking it during the post-bacc. I want to get this over with as quickly as possible, so what's your idea of "really tough" lol. Like is it possible to get a 4.0, or is it just too much at one time?

Just a side note, Stockton is dangerous. If you move there please live in a safer area/gated building and be aware of the crime rate there. Might be very different form where you're coming from.

My grandparents live ALL THE WAY in Santa Clarita, and I would like to not have to take out a loan for rent and save a bit of money for even a year. It will still be a huge commute (like an hour) to CSULA, but the commute to Fullerton would be impossible lol. I have a car loan I have to pay so I'll need to figure out how I'm going to do this.
-
Thank you, that's very helpful. CSULA says this: "Write a brief statement (500 words/3500 characters or less including punctuation, but not spaces) describing your reason(s) for pursuing graduate or postbaccalaureate study. Include any additional information concerning your preparation that is pertinent to the objective specified" So I'll probably do the same

Thank you so much! The deadline is 3/31 so I better do it tonight haha. It seems very simple. Idk how in depth my statement of intent needs to be here. I think I did the same application when I went to CSUN for undergrad and I realize now I gave it no thought.

Should I fill out an application for the post bacc program at CSULA to try to start this fall, or should I wait until I'm more prepared and apply for it next year? Would there be any negatives to getting denied and trying to apply again in a year? I really don't want to wait a whole year to start, but of course I would use that time to take the GRE, and gain experience in SLP. Right now, I'm a nanny. I received my bachelors degree in liberal studies. I have observation hours in elementary schools. My employer is a speech pathologist so I could probably get a LOR from her and do some observation of her or something else. My GPA is probably about a 3.7 at this point, give or take a little bit.
