  1. I am a second year graduate student nominated to make the Facebook page for the upcoming students. "EWU WSU SLP'S OF 2018" https://www.facebook.com/groups/100617577013258/ Best of luck, first years!
  2. at my uni almost all undergrad research is unpaid, at least at first, no matter what the department is. it's still a great experience though!!
  3. Nothing from EWU either, one email that they told us that they were going to send things out after the month of April. There must be a reason for making us wait, even if it drives us a little crazy...
  4. I had some initial panic about my decision too, but I think it's important to remember that we are all going to be a little on edge until we actually get started in our programs and get a better grasp on things. New places, new people, new schools, new professors, different rent and tuition, it's all a bit nerve-racking but we are capable individuals and will EASILY figure it all out! We are all extremely smart and capable human beings to have gotten this far, don't worry too much about what the future has to hold! I'm sure we are all anxious to continue this journey to SLP, but all programs have strengths and you will get a great education and a wonderful career no matter what. Embrace your opportunities!
  5. I don't think it makes a difference when it comes to getting a job etc. But I know that for Eastern Washington vs WSU, even though their program is combined EWU is a MS and WSU is an MA. EWU requires a research component, and WSU does not. SO at EWU you get an MS and WSU you don't.
  6. No one has said this yet, but I think its important. REMAIN CALM. Explore programs and see what you find interesting, it will help you narrow down how many schools you want to apply to. GRE, your personal statement etc etc are all important, but if you freak out for the entire next year, you will go crazy!!! Not to mention that reading over gradcafe like this can easily become a lovely supplement to that panic. Getting a head start is smart, but don't overthink everything. It'll all work out, we are all still alive! BEST OF LUCK!!!
  7. I go to a very large school and have heard a lot of people in my program asking this question. What was recommended by our advisor to those taking gap years was to approach the professor before summer, and just mention that you will be taking a year off but would appreciate a letter from them at a later time. Usually they are up for it and either write it right away and hold on to it until you need it, or make a note and are willing to write one next year when you ask. Hope that helps! I'd say just be open about it and ask. My letter of rec was from a professor that I had for three classes and also only saw during that time and during office hours. As long as you are making an effort to make your face known and speak up, they should be willing to accomodate.
  8. (I didn't see one for the program yet, and noticed that in years past they seem to be combined, hope that's okay. We can always change it ) EWU/ WSU SLP 2017 Closed, just request https://www.facebook.com/groups/1565635703686134/
