  1. You and me both brotha! What lab were you at?
  2. Does anybody know if experience with NREIP helps in the decision process much?
  3. We all know that you're lying. YOU'RE A REPLICANT FOR CHRISSAKE!
  4. P.S. I know a bunch of a few ppl who do the part-time MBA programs at Booth and Kellogg. If staying in state is a concern this might not be a bad path.
  5. Dude, if you wanna go finance\industry, unless you wanna go quant, get an MBA. In an MBA, you can even focus on business stats, which focuses only on the theory relevant to business.
  6. Hey Guys, I'd appreciate any advice you can give on this issue. I'm applying for the NDSEG and I previously participated twice in an ASEE internship program. I was wondering the following: 1. How much of a help will my internships be? Moreover, if you've seen my profile, what are my chances? I actually mentioned my internships a few times in my NDSEG statement and how it helped me form the research question discussed in the statement. 2. Can students accept BOTH an NSF and an NDSEG? If they can't which do most accept? Thanks for your help!
  7. You bring the bottle. I'll bring the cigars
  8. Yup. They cleared out the other BS ones.
  9. Hey Y'alls, Today the following were reported on GC: 1. A few admits to Wharton stats 2. A few rejections from Berkeley 3. An admit to Princeton "Applied Math & Stat" 4. An admit to Duke Decision Sciences I've already reported those as spam. I know for a fact they're fake. My coworkers, who know I'm hooked to both gradcafe and my refresh button, posted those to mess with me. I'd hoped GC quickly removed them, but apparently they haven't. Sorry for the mess. I've already scolded them for messing w/ people as they were not aware of how many ppl check thae site. I really hope nobody was too bothered, but I just wanted to make everyone aware. I've also posted this message on the MathGRE site.
  10. Tried that.
  11. I just got one too! I have no idea what to do or how to prepare for it. I'm just going to read their website religiously.
  12. Now, I definitely find it hard to believe Yale has offered interviews. I submitted my app pretty early and I just today got an email saying it's been forwarded to the adcom.
  13. I actually looked at the historical data just now and all I saw was the 2012 interview. What were your search terms?
  14. I personally kinda find it hard to believe. Only ONE b-school stats program I applied to is doing interviews and if anyone's gonna do interviews, it's gonna be a b-school.
  15. mathgirl28, Do you know if Yale has already started doing interviews?
  16. So I just got my GRE generals back. My new scores are V162, Q167, AW 4.0. I'm right now applying for stats to: Harvard Yale Princeton (ORFE) Stanford Chicago Columbia NYU-Stern Duke (Decision Sciences) Should I plan on getting destroyed? Also, I'm applying to NDSEG. I had to summer internships with the NREIP program which ASEE runs. Will these help in the decision process? How would you guys approach the summary of goals if you don't have specific research questions in mind?
  17. Most of this is just conjecture, but... You probably don't need a PhD if you want to teach at a community college. I know that back in my hometown you need only an MS to teach. Look at the requirements to start as an adjunct at the CC's you want to teach at. Starting as an adjunct is probably the best way to obtain a full time position at a CC.
  18. How closely do statistics programs look at the GRE general exam? Do they use it as a cut off? If so, what is the cut off?
  19. Hey y'alls, I'm considering applying to the ORFE program at Princeton, b/c they are so focused on stochastic analysis and mathematical finance. I'm going to apply to a number of pure/applied math and stats programs. I was wondering, given my profile, would I have a shot at there? My profile:
  20. I'm worried that being out in the non-academic world will harm my application and if the fact that my new position would be as a research associate will mitigate that harm. I'm also a completely neurotic applicant!
  21. There's a very good chance that I'll be changing jobs to a very prominent defense think tank. My position would be research associate and I would primarily be doing modeling regarding military topics. All of my supervisors will have PhD's in areas ranging from mathematics and physics to economics and political science. Would this type of experience enhance or harm one's application for a PhD in statistics or applied mathematics?
  22. I'm thinking about apply to a few stats programs for theoretical stats and mathematical finance. I know Stanford Stats in particular is looking for math fi students. Would it be advisable that I take a PhD statistical theory course? What would be the benefit? Would it greatly improve my application?
  23. BUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?
