@FoxAndChicken and @raaawr 2016: Pink Hair in the White House!

Well, that's a blessing in disguise (and likely necessary for your sanity). I haven't stopped checking my email because I usually have a few students emailing me every day, and I used my faculty email account on all my apps,

I'm correcting rough drafts (72 in total, woof) and chugging coffee like a champ. Also, my username/password to login and check my application on MyCUBoulder stopped working today. I hope that's a good sign? My gut says no; my brain says it's likely a simple technical issue.

I would love just once acceptance as well; I've only head back from 2 programs (and an assumed rejection from Vanderbilt), and have yet to hear back from Oregon, Colorado-Boulder, Denver, and ASU. A thread like this is incredibly useful.- 145 replies

I also keep seeing people with multiple acceptances, and I allllllllmost want to message them and ask them if they'd like to send one my way. You know, just to see what being accepted feels like.

So, I've heard nothing from Vanderbilt despite a lot of rejections and acceptances being posted on the results page and elsewhere. Should I just assume that is a rejection at this point? -
I remember bike nights. I never went; I just remembered them occurring. My dad coached HS soccer in West Bloomfield for a couple years recently!

@bugabooo - oh dear god, the REAL up north part of Michigan. I haven't been that way in almost 10 years...and I used to live in Ann Arbor @FoxAndChicken!! I moved there for a couple years after completing my MA at BGSU in 2009. I went to Eastern Michigan for undergrad too, so I would frequent Ann Arbor during my time there. I grew up in a white suburb of Detroit (Royal Oak), and now live in a small, white suburb of Flint... I sense a pattern. :|

Whoa, @bugabooo and @FoxAndChicken - where in Michigan are you guys? I'm in Grand Blanc, near Flint (near the lovely lead water crisis).

@sjoh197 - Biscotti?

In order to keep myself busy this week, I am subbing for a colleague in their developmental writing workshop course on Tuesday. Otherwise, I would be sitting in my office obsessively checking websites for any updates.

The amount of resting bitch-face I did at my screen almost set my face that way permanently. (If guys have resting bitch face...?) -
I had a wild dream that all four of my remaining schools made me offers, but they all asked me to make a decision only after visiting. However, dream-logic was that I HAD TO VISIT THEM ALL IN A WEEK. So, I bounced between Oregon, Arizona, and Colorado, only to say "screw it" and ended up staying in the Rocky Mountains and avoiding civilization. Waiting does weird things to your dreams.

I usually do my checks in the morning, and then again before bed. In between, I let myself go about my day to try and avoid any anxiety-inducing trains of thought. I had a rough go of that yesterday getting 2 rejection letters within 10 minutes of each other. However, I am trying my best to keep my head up. I have 4 schools left, which are objectively better shots than the 3 schools I got rejection letters from already. Though, it does suck to have to make a concrete back-up plan instead of just knowing there has to be one, in case things go south. Also related: beer is good. my BFF is taking me out for beer and shots tonight to help take my mind off this.

Congrats to all these acceptances! I hope to hear some good news soon too... -
Well, I got rejected from my top choice. This completely sucks.

I'm mostly terrified because my backup plan - staying at my university as a non-TT faculty - is not as secure as it seems now. Enrollments are down across the board, and I would have reduced course loads for the next 3 semesters (at least), as well as teaching courses below the gen-ed level. I'm not really comfortable teaching those, as I have no real experience or education to assists TESOL or adult learners with language/writing barriers. And know I would be doing that kind of work for less than what I (struggled) to make now has me freaking out. I only have one rejection so far, but it was from a program that I thought was a shoe-in, based on how I tailored my studies to their faculty and focus. Also, I'm 31 (just turned 31 today!) and trying not to have too much of a meltdown... /whine. Okay, I feel a little better now. Carry on.

I just heard back from the GC at CU-Boulder. Looks like March 15th is their target date for decisions. -

Got all mine done between Wednesday and Thursday last week! Oregon's was a pain in the butt, but the rest were easily done. Now just crossing my fingers and waiting for February to get here ASAP. Also, I have to remind my thesis chair to write her letters for my applications. My two other letter writers completed and uploaded their letters over this weekend. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! -

I got 4 out of 7 done today. I've also been teaching 5 classes this semester, which has really interfered with my ability to post on here. I mostly have just checked up on the Lit GRE thread, and lurked on threads re: SOP's and Writing Samples.
