Where is Notre Dame?

I hate that the international student that was admitted to Yale did not report his GRE score, after mentioning how crucial it was for his admission to Yale university.
Nonetheless, this demonstrates, I think, that the GRE is important for Yale. I only hope that it is not for the others.

Are they superexpensive? Yes they are.
Would I go if I could pay them? Yes I would.
Could I pay for them? No, I could not.
If you are worried about prestige and that sort of things, I can tell you that they are the 15th in the world at the QS's ranking http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/university-subject-rankings/2015/philosophy which is a great place, higher than many of the "USA's best".

I posted the History and Philosophy of Science acceptance at Notre Dame this afternoon. I was offered admission into the philosophy track along with two fellowships. I have such ambivalence with respect to sharing this information, for on the one hand, I am genuinely honored and excited to be granted this opportunity, but on the other, I recognize that my being granted an opportunity necessarily precludes others from said opportunity (and I know that may seem common-sensical or, at worst, banal, but I just have a lot of feelings.)

Please know that I, too, have felt the existential dread that has been this admissions season and I have full confidence that each and every one of us will find our place to philosophize in the world. No matter what happens this admissions season, we haven't failed. We're just stuttering. We will all be okay! (I'll stop now and take my, probably unwanted, appeals to romanticism with me.)

I got the same email, but I'm quite pleased. I think I can make the finances work... It was one of my top choices as well, but might be good prep for graduate school... I don't have a strictly philosophy backgroud so this is probably something I need. 

You know, this is precisely how I thought an English Ph.D.'s acceptance post would read. You guys are so much more interesting than the analytic philosophers.

For anyone in need of a pick-me-up, here ya go. I have decided to forgo the Ph.D. My new 5-year plan involves finding this man and dating him #priorities
 
 

i haven't heard anything from 7 of the 8 places i applied (one rejection, one other presumed). I feel like i haven't even really applied. This forum drives me nuts, i don't know why i keep visiting. You're in a great position. clearly you are doing really well so....... no more self doubt! 

That is true, I have still to hear back from 9 places (3/4 of which I will likely withdraw from), though I am presuming a rejection from UCLA.

Pretty sure that the list is not exhaustive.

Thanks a lot, I got a 4.5 on my AWA. It was above 80% so I am happy.

I'm not sure, the whole thing was super impersonal. I got some sort of fellowship, so it might just be the case that they sent out only fellowship offers yesterday. Best of luck to you!

Thanks! I felt exactly the same way, started the cycle with two implied rejections and no contact from any program... It's extremely stressful. Have faith, I was about ready to give up hope and then got two admits in one day. Things'll turn around!

It was a really tough choice for me but I got a fully funded offer to a top MA program in a location with a lot of friends and family (whereas i didn't know anyone in upstate ny). The director of grad studies at my MA convinced me that I could do much better if I were to do the MA and reapply. Hope he was right! So far so good.

Congratulations! That is awesome!

UNC--a little inconsistent. Sometimes Jan 20...sometimes Feb 16. Don't really know if it'll come out this week, next week, or even early the week after
Arizona---pretty consistently the end of the first week of Feb or the beginning of the second week. 
We all know the drill with Berkeley--should be this week...probably tomorrow...but who knows. (Always very consistent though.)
Notre Dame--pretty consistently in the tens in Feb. But may be Feb 10 or may be Feb 18 

^ I agree! Just as I gave up hope on Duke and mentally checked "presumed rejected," somebody cruelly posted another acceptance! :S Now I have a sliver of hope again to keep me busy refreshing e-mail... 
Congrats on the Edinburgh acceptance, by the way! I'm not very familiar with the institution, but I know it's an absolutely gorgeous place to be! Now onto waiting for Feb 12th for Notre Dame...
