University of New Mexico rejected me. This one hurt quite a bit... I think I prefer quick and dirty emails compared to physical mail that for some reasons seems like it could only contain good news. The entire process of seeing the letterhead from the school and opening is brutal when you see the classic "we are sorry to inform you..."

I know there are a number of applicants out there who have similar areas of interest that are (presumably) making another go of it next year. If anyone is interested in creating an email group to keep up with and help each other out, let me know. Could use the help and camaraderie doing this again.

I see three Oregon rejections via email, I have not received an email and the status of my application is still pending. Should I give into the false sense of hope? Looks like in past years they have done all their rejections at once... AHHHHH I don't know what this means!

Oh wow, you're right. That'd odd. I'll try to find more about it tomorrow. The secretary did say last week that they'd be mailed out. I said, "Oh, they're being mailed?" And she said, "yes." If they really are mailing out the rest of the acceptances, that would explains why students studying in the US haven't heard anything yet. But I'll try to find out more tomorrow 

Hang in there!  Regarding spreading calls, I had a quick look through the past results and it appears that Georgetown tends to span their acceptances over the Friday and Saturday.  So I think there's still hope that you might receive word on Saturday.

@confusedgradapplicant130   I think I have a good idea, perhaps unconventional and circular: A History/Philosophy of Science program. I've seen people do stuff on epistemology and history of the social sciences, and this would fit right in. Also, anthropology is heavy on theory sometimes, and looks at things like "historical memory", so there could be something there. 

As someone who is also very interested in theorizing history more than is commonly accepted, I sympathize with your concerns. On some level, the reason why so much of the work on historiography is dated, I think, is because theorizing has always been perceived as lesser in historical fields. That is to say, I think why we still read Carr, Collingwood, Butterfield, or Novick is because books of those quality about historiography are far and few between. What's more, because they often reflect the speciality of the author, it is nigh-impossible to find a historiographical treatment of the field from your area of interest.

If you want to go into historiography, you've just got to be crafty about how you're doing it. In planning out my dissertation project, I want to force my readers to shift their understanding of periodization because what's commonly taught won't work if you want to understand the problem I'm approaching. That makes them theorize a little bit (ie: what counts as "Medieval"?) I also think this is a less risky way of dealing with theoretical problems because a story about your colleagues (which, inevitably all historiography ends up being) can hurt you regardless of how brilliant the work is.  

New Mexico: Secretary was very uninformative: "It might be a couple of months." I asked, "within the next month?" And she said, "Yeah... it might be longer than that." That seems very implausible to me, so we might want to contact the DGS. I noticed one acceptance listed for Feb 10.
Oregon: I emailed the DGS about whether all acceptances & WL have gone out. Will get back to you soon.

I think they're still going out. Historically, it's taken a while for the waitlist to be notified. Many of us were originally on the waitlist (myself included!), so don't interpret a waitlist offer as bad news should you end up on it. 

In NYC, if you want to get a junior drivers license, you have to sit through 5 hours of defensive driving classes, memorize Sinatra's NY, NY, and recognize quotes from at least 3 Woody Allen movies. 

Also, just received information about Riverside. They just began reading applications last week and while I'm not sure how long the process takes I don't think it'll be even by next week.  

I'm going to write an official blog post soon and post this also in the rejection and blog threads, but I've asked a fellow applicant to collaborate with me on the blog. This person's role would be to call universities at appropriate times and check on the status of decisions. We hope that by doing this we can alleviate some stress on the applicant side as well as on the side of professors, grad students, or administrators in philosophy departments, the latter by reducing the amount of applicants calling and emailing. 
We never before have done this and it is possible it won't work. If it seems to cause too much trouble, my collaborator may withdraw from the role.

Accepted to Virginia with a fellowship nomination, so that's pretty cool
