  1. Bah! Everyone is smart enough to do continental philosophy! It's just a matter of being courageous and vulnerable.
  2. CUNY is offering me 35k. 25k plus an extra 10k fellowship.
  3. Ach so. Sorry to hear that. :/
  4. Who the fuck is Jonny and are we all invited? Party!!
  5. I think you're right. There's no reason for analytic philosophers to think about the divide because all the top ranked and well known institutions are analytic, at least in the English speaking world. So it's easy to just see analytic Phil as philosophy proper. But I've seen more push back from analytic philosophers in maintaining the divide philosophically, saying that X, y, z aren't really doing philosophy, or something. So, I think that continental philosophers are more willing to acknowledge a political divide while analytic philosophers are more willing to acknowledge a philosophical one.
  6. Gotta email Axel Honneth. Tell him you love him. He's still there, right??
  7. In general. It makes sense for me not to get into the schools I didn't get into, for sure. I'm not at all expecting to get into Columbia, btw. But I think it's funny how differently my application was viewed by different camps, if you will. My results are not necessarily random, and I think there's something to be said about that. Idk what that something is, but probably something.
  8. Not upset about not getting into amazing schools or anything, but damn, that Continental/Analytic divide is strong, though. I thought people were mostly over it.
  9. Congratulations! It's in such an ideal place in NYC. Super stoked for anyone who got in. It wasn't a good fit for me, but the location is so perfect I couldn't not apply.
  10. Official L?
  11. Languages. I've heard repeatedly that people are impressed with my languages. But maybe it's a continental thing.
  12. They wouldn't pay for a visit if you didn't have a good chance of getting in!
  13. Fantastic! Congratulations!
  14. Did you get in?!?
  15. I got an official email from CUNY Grad. Impersonal standard email. I can also claim a GSU acceptance but I only found out through voicemail and haven't been able to call back. They also informed me they've awarded me the Kant/Post-Kant Fellowship.
  16. Hey! I was just listening to that a few mins ago!!
  17. America for Americans, goddammit!
  18. Same. I've travelled a bit, but I've never been out of NYC for longer than three months. And I love it here so much and I'm really afraid to leave. I'm afraid to leave my friends and family and the comforts of knowing a place really well. And also, that if I leave, my family might lose the apartment we've lived in forever, because my mom might not be able to work for much longer. But, my CUNY stipend would totally make me able to stay, even though it's not a great fit. It might not even be a good fit, to be honest. Also, on top of it all, I feel like I'm being used to fill a quota. I'm a double minority, if you will, and I kind of feel as though I'm being used simply for that.
  19. Is it better to wait until after you get the official acceptance letter to decline, or have you all been doing it on the spot? I said I would wait until I got all my results before declining and I'm just waiting up on one, really, with another two presumed rejections.
  20. WHAT! That's pretty cool. I was legitimately ticked off (on your behalf) that the email they sent was so ambiguous. But congratulations!
  21. Can I get in on this??
  22. Do you already have plans to come to the east coast??
  23. Ahem. You're in the wrong forum. You're welcome here and all, but you're gonna get less information trickling down.
  24. Niceeeee!
  25. I heard from them a week ago, but I think I'm the only one who has so far. Not sure though.
