  1. On the Facebook group the report was of a call from John Lysaker - no reason to doubt the poster (though I'll leave his name out of this here)
  2. Not to take away from your discussion above guys, but.. God damn I'm ready to hear some results for my apps. I know some of the other programs have been releasing offers already, and none of mine are even predicted for the next two weeks, and the anxiety isn't so much killing me, as making me insufferable to anyone around me.
  3. I found out through the DePaul department calendar that they hope to interview candidates between the 6th and 8th of Feb This might be of interest to some - I hope this isn't the wrong place to mention this Here's the source: http://las.depaul.edu/academics/philosophy/about/Documents/Calendar.pdf
  4. Someone reported a Yale rejection - details please???
  5. After learning that Indiana University's most cherished tradition is drinking gin with fresca out of a bucket with a turkey baster, I realised I want to go to Indiana University.
  6. Oh neat! I see from your earlier post you're applying to some of the same schools! Good luck to you too - maybe we'll meet in person come September.
  7. I'm torn between two loves - history of philosophy (especially early modern and medieval) and political philosophy (especially critical theory approaches to politics). The way I put it in my SoP: I'm interested in the background to Kant's development (esp. Descartes, Hume, Leibniz and Spinoza) and the way his influence was picked up later on (esp. Hegel, Arendt, Frankfurt School). If I stay in Australia, I have a project developing on virtue and emotions in early modern philosophy (looking at Descartes, Margaret Cavendish, and either Walter Charleton or John Smith [or both]).
  8. Hey team, Reapplying this year after an educational but unsuccessful season last year. Back then I was applying while almost done with my MA and with okay references. My GPA was 4.0 from a pretty well regarded department in Australasia. Main difference is that I have finished the MA and done exceedingly well, I have better references (including one new referee who is well known to all of the programs I'm applying for), and I have a lot more teaching experience (a few papers under review in good journals doesn't hurt either, I hope - but nothing published yet). I'm applying to Yale, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Toronto, DePaul and Villanova. Hoping someone will take, but not heartbroken if they don't - my backup plans are Monash and University of Sydney, both of which are much closer to home, and both of which are excellent places for what I want to do (+ no coursework, yay!) Good luck to everyone
  9. yeah.. i realise that. but at the same time, i'm expecting all rejections, and i'd rather they come sooner rather than later, because my backup is to apply for an Australian program, and for that I need to write a research proposal
  10. Hey Sam, Thanks a bunch for this! Could you look into Villanova please? (Holy shit most of the predictions for my programs are so early in the season - if you're right, and I hope you are, I'll basically be done by mid-Feb)
  11. I just posted a rejection from McGill. Solicited email from the grad coordinator. Was told the shortlist is finalised.
  12. I've emailed the last two schools I've heard nothing from; i just can't deal with this. Just fucking reject me already and let me focus on my thesis proposal and publishing two papers out of my thesis.
  13. You got into Harvard. You're ready.
  14. Thanks! Though at this point I've really given up..
  15. Maybe.. still nothing here.. hmm...
  16. My surname starts with S.. so maybe? In any case, I've given up on my bid of getting into a northern American school, I'm going to apply for an Australian program this October, and not deal with any of this stress again..
  17. Yup. I'm assuming I've been rejected though..
  18. My DePaul, Villanova, and Chicago bids are put to rest. Penn State, McGill and Toronto just probably.
  19. At this point I've lost all hope.. If something nice happens, great. I doubt it though. My backup plan is an Australian PhD program, and visiting a few places I'm the US during. It'll be OK. I'll get my PhD like 2 years sooner
  20. @jacbarcan do you think Toronto are done sending out offers/waitlists?
  21. I'd just like 1 application to go through. Which is funny, because I only have 1 left that I have a chance on.
  22. Congrats! That's a great achievement! When did they let you know?
  23. Out of curiosity, who did you email, and how did you put this email? I feel I should send something like this to a few schools, but I haven't got a clue how to ask
