Penn State. How do you quote everything at once?

Anyone writing an undergrad/masters thesis while waiting to hear back?
majorshake replied to bechkafish's topic in Philosophy
MA thesis here. I also work full time (Research office at my uni) and I mark assignments for an off-campus unit. My life pro tips are: 1. cook your meals for the whole week ahead. 2. get up at 6.30am to study for an hour before work 3. stay back for 2 hours after work to study I just realized I don't lead a super healthy lifestyle But its temporary. The main thing is that any time spent working on your thesis moves you forward. You can do it! -
Don't give up, friend! You can still get it!

I heard the precise opposite from the faculty at my undergrad school - they all recommended I get an MA, then with some more experience and a much better CV try to apply for a more prestigious PhD. And I'm exactly the same - at the end of my undergrad I could barely write, had no idea what I'd like to work on, and if I had pursued a phd then, I feel I would have struggled to keep up.

How are you all staying productive while you wait?

Grading can be.. especially with dry units like "critical thinking" (at my institution it means basic logic). Leading classes is fucking great though. I love teaching. In each class there are those 2 or 3 students that listen, do their work, and ask the most insightful questions. It's so damn rewarding. -

I think the more commonly used term in the US would be grading? (I do a lot of teaching/grading/marking at the uni where I'm doing my MA) -

Cute dog! I found the most soul-sucking way to spend the weekend that isn't waiting: I'm marking undergrad assignments in critical thinking -
I (almost) have an MA.. still didn't do me any good

Looks like Penn State and U.Chicago are out for me. Balls.
-
Well, looks like 2 rejections so far (out of 6).
-
Thanks!
-
Yeah. I'm hoping for any news. In the meantime, I better get back to my MA thesis.
-
Yeah, seems like it isn't gonna happen today. Unless it has and nobody reported it here. Which might also be the case. The suspense is killing me. I didn't feel anywhere near this anxious when I was going for my MA (probs because in Australia it depends much more on one's potential supervisor approving the project)
-
Is it likely offer would come out on a Saturday for U.Chicago? Or am I sentenced to waiting until Monday (Tuesday my time, even..)
-
If only Chicago would get back to me. Come on guys
-
Congrats! Great result

Finishing my masters, preparing to teach (ethics - starting March), working at my university's research office, checking my emails every 20 minutes once it hits 8am in the US (east coast) -
Shall I assume that if I haven't heard from Penn State about anything, then I'm rejected? I saw in the acceptance thread that a few people got interviews already
-
Congrats! I'm hoping I might be just a bit further down on their contact list there...

Hi Guys, Applying for a couple schools in the upcoming season. Currently finishing up an MA in Australia. Working largely in continental philosophy. My dissertation is on Kant's political philosophy. I'm looking at a few programs in the US: DePaul, Villanova, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and U.Chicago. The last one is a long shot. My supervisor is pretty positive about my chances at the first 3 of these programs. We'll see how I go with my GRE score, but the practice stuff I've done looks positive. I've also presented at a number of conferences, and if all goes well, I'll have a journal publication by the time I have to apply (which I'd then use as my writing sample).
