  1. Is this the DePaul interview? You can do it! You've got this. Let us know how it went!
  2. Haven't heard anything from anywhere in like 6 days. I therefore conclude that I've been rejected from everywhere Edit: Might as well vent other frustrations: - My housemates haven't put their dishes away yet - My bread went mouldy and so I haven't got anything for breakfast - It's raining so I'll have to walk through the rain from my car to my office
  3. hmm.. I am international, so hopefully this means I'm on some waitlist somewhere. Thanks, good luck to you too
  4. Hmm.. that's very odd. I haven't heard anything, and it doesn't seem anyone else here has.
  5. I agree, though I can't know from first hand experience. But I can imagine it being pretty uncomfortable being the only woman in the room (or one of two) with 12 or so men, every damn time you're in a room with other philosophers.
  6. I can understand that about the GRE.. that test is straight up designed to weed out students whose first language isn't English. Thank you anyhow.
  7. Not to take away from the other thing going on, but does anyone have any idea how ad-coms look at international students vs US students (or those who went through the US system)??
  8. That will be so appreciated. Please, and thank you!
  9. I saw that there is one on the page, but nothing in their online system, and nothing in my inbox. MUST BE A FAKE
  10. I don't think Toronto sent anything out yet?
  11. I'm not sure how it works where you are, but at my institution (in Australia) there's a research office that goes over all the grant proposals before they go out to the funding bodies. They love hiring philosophers because of our "attention to detail and ability to figure stuff out for ourselves". Might be something to look into? Adult pay is nice, and now I can afford to take my girlfriend out to dinner AND drinks. Also, buying books is a lot more pleasurable when you can get more than 2 without feeling guilty
  12. If I get in somewhere, anywhere, I'll put on a batch on my first day, and have a great party after my last.
  13. Here's how you do it on the cheap, without needing a fancy manhattan bar. Needs: 0.5L Spiritus (it's Polish grain alcohol - it's like 97% alcohol by volume) 1L Vodka (get the good quality stuff because it matters) 1Kg of Raspberries 1Kg of Sugar You throw that sugar onto the raspberries, in a big ol' jug. You stir that stuff around, and then leave it for a day or two to let the sugar dissolve in the juices of the raspberries. Once this occurs, you throw the spiritus and vodka in there, give it a stir, then close the jar, putting a clean tea-towel between the jar and the lid so it isn't sealed. Set it aside for sixish months. Strain the raspberries out - then pour the liquor into bottles (glass ones that you can seal). Leave it closed in a dark cool place for another 6 months (up to a year - the longer the better, really). Then, drink that stuff as an aperitif, digestif, or just, like, whenever. It's delicious. Edit: Oh man, just realized that I am really getting desperate for some news.. It works well for most fruits (berries are hella good though).
  14. University of Sydney and University of Queensland, both in Australia
  15. I'm used to that already. These schools are rejecting me left and right. Soon, I'll be writing a proposal for a non-US uni it seems.
  16. I didn't know. In any case, eeep! so soon! fingers crossed
  17. Predicted release date for Toronto? What is it? Please?
  18. Same. Toronto or McGill. UGH. I JUST WANT ONE FUNDED OFFER PLEASE. JUST ONE.
  19. Not a bad result! Fingers crossed for you, friend!
  20. Sounds like a solid plan. May I ask why you were kicked out? (Feel free not to say, I realise I'm being nosy!) I'm going to apply for a few Australian PhD programs. There are lots of good people to work with here, but I wanted to try overseas first because the application deadlines didn't match up in a good way.
  21. I have also heard this, both from Canadians who've recently moved here, but also looking at the results page, McGill rejected all international applicants last year based on lack of funding.. So that's a presumed rejection for me right there
  22. We're all here together. What's your backup plan?
  23. Another DePaul interview has been posted. I'm guessing they sent them all out today, and so, based on how I haven't gotten one, I'm assuming a rejection. So far 3 rejections out of 6 applications. Starting to write a proposal for a non-american phd.
  24. Didn't go into that much detail, sorry
