Hey, everyone. I will be attending BC in the fall also, and I'm coming from a college town in FL so I'm not really sure how one looks for housing in the real world. I'm likely going to have to book a bunch of viewings for the same week when I can visit. When should I plan on visiting to view apartments? When will the best deals become available for an August move in? I plan on living in the Brighton/Allston area

Hey, everyone
I was recently admitted to Simmons and Smith MSW programs, but both were entirely too expensive (around 80k in debt, taking into account both scholarships and grants). I've been pretty bummed about it and now I'm worried I won't be able to pull off going to grad school in the fall, even despite getting accepted.
I have also been admitted to BC and Loyola, but haven't heard back about funding for either. I'm hopeful, but still skeptical. 
I have read a few threads asking how much debt is too much, etc. and it seems that the general consensus is that it's a personal preference. This has made me curious. How much are you, personally, okay with going into debt for a MSW? What is your thought process to come to that conclusion? What are the ways that you expect going into that debt will be worth it in the long run? 
I still realize that this will end up being a personal preference, but I think it is a worthwhile conversation. I hope somebody can bring some points to light that I hadn't previously thought of.

I'll be attending BC in the fall to get my MSW. I'm very excited because it means taking out minimal loans as long as I find a part time job. I'm not worried about being able to juggle school work and class work (as I am juggling 35 hours a week at a preschool, 10 at a crisis hotline, an internship and 9 academic credits currently). However, I currently work in a field that is loosely related to social work as I'm working with children. I would most prefer to work in a field that is also related during my masters program in Boston, but it doesn't seem like child care will be possible with how my weekly schedule is going to look and the fact that I don't plan on taking my car. 
This leads to my question. Those of you who are currently in an MSW program or are planning to attend one while working part time, what kinds of jobs are you going to be looking for? i have worked as a server and other unrelated type jobs before, but I would really like to stay within the field if at all possible. I'm sure there are other jobs out there other than childcare that are related to the field. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I never actually thought of the whole "adding the deposit to what Loyola should have to give me" aspect. That's a great idea, thank you!
i ended up just putting the deposit down. I'm gonna see what I can do if Loyola somehow makes it way cheaper to go there, but I don't anticipate that happening.
I'm SO excited now. I was thinking grad school really wasn't gonna work out for me this coming year and I can't believe I'm moving to Boston!
I've been researching for quite a while now and it looks like Brighton and Allston are definitely gonna be the move. I'm totally cool with having roommates, so I'm just gonna look for the cheapest/best option I Can find when it comes to housing.

BC raised my scholarship amount to more than anyone else has offered. Now I'm rethinking ? But I only have until Friday to respond to them and Loyola won't give me my scholarship amount until after March 1st. I'm not sure what to do! 

I made my pro and con list last week without the offer yet that I'll hopefully get! Let me know if you want to compare notes, feel free to send me a message.

So, I was all set to discard Boston College from my list because it's too expensive, but I just got my acceptance packet and have been offered a pretty decent scholarship, which would probably make it doable.  Definitely tight, but doable.  I'd still have to take out Stafford loans for living expenses AND work my ass off at a part-time job to afford the high cost of living, though, unless I could get a GA or work-study.  So, now, I'm making a pro and con list for both BC and UConn, while hoping UConn starts sending out financial aid info soon.  I also might plan a visit to Boston College in a few weeks to get a feel for the campus. Unfortunately, I can't do that at UConn because they're in the midst of moving to another location that they're still building.

I got an acceptance email from BC!!

Hi guys I have been checking this group and looking through posts for a while I heard from BC today and I applied on December 6th, and everything was in except for my official transcript which was received and processed on December 15! Hope that info helps!

I would have to say my top choice is Smith College. Their program is just set up unlike any other program I have ever seen. I love the idea of having class over the summer and doing my field placement somewhere else in the country full time during the year. Also, they offer such a wide range of amazing and applicable classes. I should hear back from them within the next two weeks, and I can hardly wait. 

Oh man I'm going to be checking my email like a crazy person now. My application was complete on December 20th!

I believe I submitted my application on Janurary 2nd or 3rd and they notified me through email

I've seen a whole bunch of area and school specific posts and decided to go ahead and start one for Boston so we can all keep each other updated.
 
I applied to Simmons, Boston College and Smith (which is a ways outside of Boston but I figured I'd give it a mention anyway). Simmons sent me an email that they made a decision and placed it in the mail on Friday. All of this waiting is driving me nuts!

I just got an acceptance email from Wheelock College in Boston!!!!

That is probably one of the most evil/cruel things that the admissions department could do -
Emailing you that they made a decision, and are mailing you the results.
They dropped the mail into the department outbox (probably after the mail pickup for the day) on Friday.
Nothing gets picked up on Saturday ot Sunday
Monday happened to be a Federal holiday - no mail movement
It gets picked up by the school's internal mail on Tuesday afternoon
Delivered to the post office on Wednesday morning
4 more days before it gets to you
oops - it is now Sunday - no mail delivery
fingers crossed for Monday.

I still haven't gotten the letter in the mail, but I got an email in the middle of the night last night saying "Confratulations on your acceptance to the Simmons College School of Social work" so that's super exciting!!!
still waiting on some info about funding. I hope that'll be included in the mailed letter!!

I applied to BC and SImmons as well! I would also be relocating if I accept an offer from a Boston area school.
