Accepted from waitlist to Baylor COM Immunology PhD, will attend.

Finally heard back from UMass Boston saying that I have been accepted, but already accepted an offer at Boston College. Oh well!

I think before the applications are in and options are still open, it's really important to be honest.  After the applications are in and it's a done deal, however, it might cause undue stress on the poor person sitting there thinking oh my god what am I going to do.  Right now, honesty can change something.  After submission, it's kind of just up in the air and not in the applicant's hands to worry about.  Most people will search out other options by the end of January if they haven't heard back if they overshot in all their programs.
Basically it's a timing thing of whether or not I think it's worth it to tell the person their choices don't have a great chance of working out to their best advantage.  And all these people apply to the top 10 programs but honestly don't realize the whole game is a fit search.  I did not like any of the more "prestigious" schools I visited more than or as much as Vanderbilt.  The school you don't consider your top choice (Vanderbilt for me) may actually be your top choice in the end so people might as well diversify their list based on fit.  So yeah, I wouldn't tell some poor anxious applicant he wasn't gonna get in anywhere if he had already submitted.  But now, I would definitely be more blunt about how your record, precluding special circumstances, does indeed affect your acceptance.

I accepted the offer from Notre Dame. Excited to start my PhD!

It's official - I have declined all of my other offers, and decided to go with Columbia's Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine program!

It's official. I'm going to Penn!! (Cancer Biology)

Just got accepted to Notre Dame. Pretty jazzed up if I say so myself. 3/3 so far! 

OMG I JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO THE YALE BBS MCGD program . And that, ladies and gentlemen, officially marks the end of Fall 2016 admissions cycle for me. 
Feels surreal to have 4/4 acceptances from my interviews, and to have an offer from Yale (which seemed like a remote possibility 5 years ago). Also feel pretty accomplished having balanced a hectic work life with the entire admissions cycle, right from studying late nights for the GRE to attending the interviews, especially with limited paid time off.
So yup, heading to New Haven, CT. All the best to all you guys waiting on decisions. 'Twas a fun ride.

Just received an offer from Columbia's Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine program!
Columbia is most definitely my top choice for pursuing graduate studies, so I am really happy. Looking forward to spending the next 5 years in the city!

Rejected from 6 schools.... and one acceptance. I can't stop smiling!

Just got accepted to UChicago Microbiology! 

I'm so happy!  I've been dying to write the email to them and accept!!!! 
 
Thank you guys!  I'm so happy.  Me a year ago couldn't even imagine feeling like I would want to turn down names like Princeton and Rockefeller for Vanderbilt, but I have no reservations.  funding, fit, research, location, atmosphere, connections... for me, Vanderbilt has it all!

I already kind of have what I'm looking for in mind; nonetheless, I reply by thanking them, telling them what I liked about the interview, and I end off telling them that while I am in the middle of interviews still, I will reach out with questions and logistics to help me make the right decision by April 15th.

Done. No questions asked.
Some schools might then try to butter you up by adding some sort of internal fellowship to the mix with an earlier date that you need to accept, but you should take that with a grain of salt. Top programs shouldn't need to use those tactics to bait people; they would offer them if you come, with no date recruited to commit by. 

Just received my unofficial acceptance e-mail to Duke (DSCB).
Apparently the rejections went out a week ago, and they just finished with the acceptances.

Accepted at WUSTL MGG! PI told me in person. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got a phone call from Boston College saying I have been accepted!!! Now to make a tough decision between Notre Dame and BC.
