Hi there! This sounds a LOT like what my experience getting married & having children has been like. There were most definitely friends who disappeared or squeaked when I/we couldn't or wouldn't be available to their liking. Those people tended to weed themselves out eventually and I don't feel bad about it in retrospect--but I sure did at the time. In the end, it was a blessing in disguise because it opened doors for new, very understanding and supportive friends to enter. The kind where you don't see each other for 6 months and then getting together is just like no time has passed and you pick up where you left off. And maybe you only have 3 of them, but the complete and total lack of drama is priceless. There's so much drama to regular adult life anyway, it shouldn't come from those who love you the most. You have clear obligations right now and a real friend will understand. (Gosh, I'm sounding really harsh today! )Eventually, regardless if it's med school, a new job, family or ??? she will find herself in a similar spot eventually. On the off-chance that she doesn't understand what really happens when someone writes a thesis, perhaps one coffee and a hashing out of things might make sense. Then at least you will be on the same informational playing field. I have no tolerance for name calling, so if she is calling you the b-word, that's just not okay. I'm starting graduate school this fall after many years not in school to go live life. I've got to say how nice it is to not have to worry about if my friends will understand the new time constraints. My advice: Let this one go. If her friendship was meant to be, she'll come back around. Best wishes!

Checking here every day for updates--good luck everyone! Hi there @LemonLove! Western New Mexico is supposed to be releasing notifications in the next few days. They have taken forever...Response time to my (many) inquiries has been wonderful, same day or next day, but their admission process is lengthy...

I applied here and was accepted, will start fall '16. Granted, I've not yet attended, but we see many psu interns through my employer and they all have good things to say. One of my references also has a friend in their 2nd year and that person loves it. Hope this helps!

MSW programs that have accepted below 3.0 GPA
Mommy2boox2 replied to AshToGrad's topic in Social Workers Forum
Hi there, Just wanted to encourage you that I just got into the 3 year, online msw program at PSU with a gpa of 2.82. I had lots of experience which definitely helped imho. -
Hello friends, I was accepted to PSU for their 3 year, online, MSW program on 2/11 and confirmed with them on 2/12. Wow oh wow... Never in a million years thought I'd get in. So, now that that's over, who else got in too? A couple of questions I had for you: 1) What kind of school supplies are you getting? I'm almost 35, it's been many, many years since I bought supplies for anyone except little ones. I'll admit, I love to get school supplies, favorite part of the year. 2) For those of us who will be online students, do you think supplies should vary much? 3) If you are working and plan to keep doing so, are you going to tell your coworkers? If so, how? My boss was a reference so she and her bosses know, but it's been a secret from all but a few coworkers. Many don't have college degrees and there are only a couple who have an MSW. Will it change things? None of the supervisors have master's degrees that I know of, is this going to create a strange dynamic? That's a good start for now, will look forward to meeting others! Does anyone still plan to go to the informational meetings now that you're accepted?

Social Work Demographic Questions
Mommy2boox2 replied to sugarandspice's topic in Social Workers Forum
34 year old (for just a little bit longer!) married momma w/two little ones. I'm a Case Manager with a Senior & Disability Services office and run an evidence-based depression management program for seniors. Background in housing & foreclosure counseling, case management and a few years as a CNA in a nursing home during undergrad. Finished a BS in Housing Studies at Oregon State University in 2005. Accepted the Fall, 2016 3 year online MSW program at PSU today! Hoping to continue working my 30 hour per week job and utilize their Employed Social Worker field work option. -
@BrendonSW well--keep us posted for sure! For the record, I thought your experience was really interesting. I spent much of the day talking with my employer about tuition reimbursement, how they would view PSU vs. WNMU on a resume and how I should go about deciding should I get into both. Their response was overwhelmingly PSU. So, after combing their website one more time and looking at the tuition cost, (it's more like 15k difference not 20k and their Employed Social Worker option for some of the field work was pretty appealing) I did go ahead and accept. Sort of a relief. Going to be a LOT of peanut butter and jellies in my future... Is anyone else on here waiting for word on the PSU online MSW option too? @kmarks1 and @AmandaN looks like you're both applying? @LAT, are you doing the online option?

As of 10:51am today.... ACCEPTED! I haven't confirmed yet, waiting to hear from the other school. *A note: the acceptance letter doesn't specify which version on the program you were accepted to. I called and they confirmed it was the online version as I intended. They said an additional letter with clarifying information would be arriving soon.

Hi Brendon--do you mean they've gotten a housing email first? Why would they do that? I submitted for the early admission deadline which was supposed to notify in January, but got extended to mid-February. So, I want to say pre-Thanksgiving? Here's what the email said exactly: It's all about housing, that's why I think it's an error. Dear ***, Congratulations on your admission to Portland State University as a graduate student starting fall 2016! Have you figured out where you will live next year? The reason we ask is that we'd love for you to live on campus.Graduate students may choose to live in any of our buildings, each housing a diverse community of PSU students. I think that you might be particularly interested in our graduate student community in Blumel Hall, one of our modern apartment-style living options. Eligibility requirements to live in our Graduate Residential Community are as follows: Admitted to a PSU Masters or Doctoral program for Fall of 2016 Maintain enrollment of at least 4 credits per term There are many advantages to living on our campus. Our prices are competitive--and often lower--than local landlords and property management companies. You will live in our thriving University district, only steps away from the PSU Library, the Campus Recreation Center, Student Health and Counseling Services, your advisor or faculty mentor’s office. You’ll also be among friends; peers and scholars who share in your academic and PSU experiences along with our trained Residence Life staff to help support you along the way.PSU housing is convenient. All housing fees are billed to your student account and include utilities such as water, gas, and electric, along with high-speed wireless Internet access, local phone and, in many buildings, cable TV with premium channels. You receive only one bill and you can easily apply financial aid, grants, and scholarships. The PSU Payment Plan will allow you to pay your student account balance in three installments per term. For more information, please call 503-725-4375, email housing@pdx.edu or visit our graduate student housing page. Again, we welcome you to Portland State University. Our mission is your success! Yours sincerely,Michael Walsh Director of Housing and Residence Life

Hi there! I also applied for the 3 year MSW program at PSU, the online one which only takes 40 people per year. Yikes. I'm a newbie here and not sure how it works but today I got an email from the Graduate Housing division that said "Congratulations on your acceptance to the MSW program in the fall of 2016 have you thought about where you're going to live?" It wasn't from the MSW department, Admissions, or the Graduate division so I think it's an error. I checked the online application checker link and it still says "submitted" not "accepted". Emailed the email sender as well as the MSW admissions contact, hopefully will get some info soon. For what it's worth, I think your experience looks interesting and unique. I think they'll appreciate that.

Hi Christina, Just wanted to make introductions and say that I'm over the hoopla too! I applied to WNMU a few weeks ago and Portland State University in November (online versions) so am hoping to hear something soon. WNMU is my first choice. I've emailed back and forth with several of the WNMU staff including Dr. Walker and everyone was just so friendly. PSU? Well, I felt like just a number. My options were very few given a lackluster undergrad gpa, but good customer service will be the deciding factor should I get into both. I've been in the field for the last 15 years so hopefully that will help, but this is all a long-shot. My hometown was very rural with tiny class sizes and an appreciation for that culture. I want a school that "gets it" and I think WNMU does, rankings be darned. Mommy2boox2
