I'm sorry to hear this, this must be stressful. I have had similar financial issues too, especially for the few years where I was paid in 6 month lump-sum installments from Canada while I was a student in the US....those last few weeks when bills were piling up and waiting for the cheque to arrive were stressful.
It sounds like your school is back in session and I would encourage you to talk to your school's financial office / bursar today. Visit in person or give them a call to see what's going on. Maybe the stipend payments are happening in a few days instead.

Hi! There is a really scary White Savior Complex issue in western Christianity (and in the U.S. in general) as far as adoptions are concerned. Reading that article, I was like... why would that family decide to adopt a child whose orphaned status was questionable from the jump? Emotional attachment does not really legitimize doing something like that. Isn't it a little late to feel guilty for stealing a child? It's like willful ignorance.
I also like how the article addresses the long history of ethical issues in adoption. A lot of people don't understand how far back this goes... Btw, little known fact: the phrase "put up for adoption" was first used during the orphan train era, when children were literally "put up" on platforms to be inspected and "adopted" for labor throughout the U.S. (not just on the west coast). So definitely think twice before using that phrase!

Hey, did anyone else apply to UW-Milwaukee's MSW/PhD of Social Welfare program? I visited recently, really enjoyed it, and was offered admission just yesterday. I am so excited and am wondering if anyone is planning to head there?

    Hey all!
I am glad that almost everyone got what they wanted out of this whole thing and am proud of all of you for your hard work
I visited UB this weekend (and am actually still in Buffalo right now) and was extremely happy with the program here. They really encourage students to conduct their own research throughout the program and provide a lot of funding for that, so everyone was completely down with my desire to go abroad for my advanced year field placement to do a study on international adoption policy. I am excited for that!
Anyway, good luck to everyone and I hope to continue hearing from ya'll on these forums!

Sorry to hear about the rejection from UM. It seems like a pretty tough place to find a way into. For what it's worth, my (uninformed / conjectural) sense is that probably few people if any make it off the waitlist.
Congrats to those of you with plans for the fall--it's quite exciting! I take it that no one has heard anything from UW-Madison this week? Its radio silence from them, which is quite agonizing.

@thegibson There is still hope left for you, at least lol
Still. I am seriously happy that I have one acceptance, even though it's a meager 1/5... A second ago I was like, "3 more rejections to go!" and my girlfriend was like, "could ya rephrase that or something? Damn."

@MrsKozee I haven't gotten anything from them and I applied there. I am happy you got in. The human rights focus shines through everything about their program. Unfortunately, for me, my application there was a bit of an afterthought and I'm not too hopeful I'll get accepted. I don't think enough faculty focus on my specific interests. There are overlaps but it's not the best fit and I would choose UB (where I have already received an acceptance and full funding--I got the fellowship I was nominated for btw, everyone... But I've been too focused on all the recent rejections) over UCLA. It's a great program though and I'm glad the acceptances are going to people who deserve it  It's a shame I don't think it'd be the best fit for me because I do love their program overall!

@MCinephile So happy for you !!! That is amazing !!!!
@MAnthroAA I can confirm tgat I have also heard nothing. But I am sure soon.
I think I will add to the good news, maybe collective good news will help everybody get in to a school they end up really enjoying. Yesterday I received my acceptance letter from Wayne State University!!! Funding will be unclear for a week or two, they have to apply for their students to receive funding after acceptance.  I think they will push hard since they are a newer program and so far have onky admitted 1-3 per year. So very excited! Stress has all but gone.

Sincerest good luck to all of you!! You are all amazing!
