  1. Congratulations! Did you receive a fellowship of some kind or was this a standard acceptance?
  2. It seems to me that GSU would be a good fit, especially their neurophilosophy track given your interests in science and phil mind.
  3. Yeah I agree. I think the application fee entities one to at least basic niceties like that. I should also add of course that I don't have any direct information that they are done. I just assume that they are given what we know.
  4. I am in the same boat. I also emailed Mark to see if they were finished or if the process was ongoing (over a week ago) but he didn't respond. I finally moved on and assumed rejection but it was irritating not to hear anything back. I was also surprised at how few people posted acceptances and wait lists on grad cafe but I think the ship has sailed.
  5. For what it's worth, a professor advised me to do this very thing yesterday and claimed that professors will typically understand if you have a good reason, such as department fit or so that you can increase the likelihood that you'll get a job after the PhD, etc.
  6. That's good to know. That's at least something! Thanks again for the info.
  7. Yep. That makes sense. It's unfortunate, but it does make some sense.
  8. Thanks for taking the time to respond. It's unfortunate that credits from these fine MA programs don't transfer more commonly.
  9. Thanks! That's good to know.
  10. Does anyone happen to know how common it is to transfer credits from, say, Georgia State or Tufts, into a PhD program? In general, should one assume that if a PhD takes 5 years (let's assume) and an MA takes 2, that a person entering an MA should plan to take 7 years to finish with the PhD? Or can one reasonably assume that some of their coursework will transfer and that it might take only 6 or so? Does anyone know any top 20 schools that are particular good or particular bad about accepting transfer credits?
  11. I'm still really curious as to what's going on at Riverside. One person claimed to be admitted but, to my knowledge, nobody has owned up to it. I don't think they would just make it up. So I'm assuming its legit. Nevertheless, one would have expected some more activity or at least some wait list notifications or something.
  12. I perused their history and it isn't uncommon for them to admit folks over two or three days and, apparently, using different notification schemes in one application season, e.g phone and personal email and impersonal email. Good times ahead.
  13. Alright Texas! Let's do this! Consider this your final warning Riverside! Do you want to get nuts?! Let's get nuts!
  14. Speaking for myself, it's bummer news because they were predicted to come out tomorrow and it's a long time to wait.
  15. Riverside's silence is deafening. Georgetown's too.
  16. Great! Thanks for the update.
  17. I'd be interested to know Riverside's plan.
  18. Jac: can your correspondent inquire into the status of things at Riverside?
  19. Yeah I hope to see you as well. It sounds like fun.
  20. I was notified today that I am admitted to Florida State! I'm thrilled!
  21. I also think it is a spectacular idea.
  22. I am also anxiously awaiting their decision. I'd be excited about that one and, importantly, so would my wife, who would not be particularly excited about some other schools to which I applied. Fortunately for her, I didn't get in to any of those schools (OR AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I AM ASSUMIMG GIVEN THAT I HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD!)
  23. Yep, long after one has already assumed as much and lost interest in the information.
  24. Ok, thanks for the heads up. That's unfortunate. It really is bizarre how schools don't notify folks who get rejected.
  25. I am curious as to why there aren't any predictions for Florida State. Anyone have any idea as to when they typically announce? I realize that one person claimed an acceptance but I got the impression that they were nominated for something special and that there was no sign that they were done admitting folks. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
