  1. Maybe every applicant was unsuccessful. Thanks for the info vordhos and congrats on Yale!
  2. Well, obviously this year they're just going to have to expand.
  3. Also waiting on Penn. I could have sworn someone said they were told middle of this past week for notifications? But there's nothing on the board except that one phone interview, right?
  4. Eh, my feeling is that, if each app has to be reviewed by two departments rather than one, it's naturally going to take a little extra time to hear back. I wonder how big the cohort usually is for the ISR...
  5. I know what you mean. My one acceptance is really great but it's for an MA and so far it's unfunded. Without funding, it means the same thing as a non-acceptance: I can't go. Worse, I don't even know which thread I belong in anymore.
  6. You're welcome! And in all seriousness, I was half-expecting the response to say "while the official letters won't be sent for a few weeks, I can go ahead and let you know now that...and I regret that...and I do hope you will be able to attend graduate school elsewhere..." So, at least it wasn't that. Not yet, anyway.
  7. Just got this from Prof. Lounsbery: They've totally got a big surprise in the works for us ISR folks. Just look at all the positive key words! There's: "thank you," "potential," "will be," "should," "sure," "[...]fortunately." The sub-text is so clear!
  8. Hahaha, I love it. But I call not-it on email duty!
  9. One can dream.
  10. None. Maybe I'm being ignored because they're waiting to surprise me with a huge funding package and it's taking them a long time to get it all collected?! But maybe I'm just a low priority.
  11. Any claims on that acceptance from today? Congrats to you, mystery applicant!
  12. Exactly right. It is but a humble MA program. I want the goods.* *Which is not to say I won't be totally psyched if I get into Kansas and nowhere else. But wouldn't it be great to just skip right to the fully-funded PhD? *wistfulness*
  13. Likewise: "PLEASE CALL ME but please, please don't ask me any questions."
  14. Shit, I would've admitted you, too. Thanks for the info!
  15. Congrats, pel! (love your avatar) May I ask what your interests are?
  16. My feelings, verbatim. Congratulations!
  17. Congrats, and...! That's awesome. I heard back unexpectedly early from a program today, too. It feels gooooood. :-) But someone posted a phone interview (?!?!) with Penn Comp Lit...aaagggghhhh...I didn't even know they did that!
  18. E-mail sent! I applied through Comp Lit. As shaky a fit as that may be for me, History would be far worse. Good luck to you both! I hope one of us gets some results soon because Origin's lone acceptance (while awesome) is freaking me out.
  19. Well, you're not alone. I think everyone here - regardless of application strategy and subsequent success or lack thereof - has had at least a single moment of "what was I thinking." Many of us have them daily. Or hourly... Don't despair! Trust yourself! Even if the acceptances don't come, that doesn't necessarily say anything about your applications, only about your applications for these particular programs at this particular time for these particular admissions committees. At least, this is what I say when I look in the mirror.
  20. Thank you both! That calms the nerves, somewhat. I'm not exactly the ideal comp lit candidate either...but I'm definitely no good for a straight Slavics department application. I don't really know where I fit in. I think I'll e-mail to find out from whom we should expect notification.
  21. I mentioned I was interested in the ISR in my SOP - did you all fill out a separate application specifically for that? Did I miss something?! I was so excited about NYU... And congrats again, Origin!
  22. Agreed, congratulations everyone!
  23. Just got accepted to CREES at Kansas - I don't know if any of you applied there but if you did, check your e-mail! Best of luck to you folks!
  24. Congrats, Origin=Goal! I'm super jealous.
  25. Maybe this offer is a little defeatist and premature, but I literally just finished three years in the Peace Corps as a TEFL and if anyone finds themselves shut out at the end of this and finds their thoughts turning that way (or if you're just curious at the moment, perhaps feeling anxious), please feel free to drop me a line. I like talking about it (well, typing about it anyway) and I will give you every dirty detail I've got. Anyway, hurray for acceptances! (Edited to add that there's also this: http://www.jetprogramme.org/ which I haven't done but friends of mine have. And JET, unlike Peace Corps, is paid and not - to my knowledge, anyway - limited to US citizens.)
