I have a Skype interview questions to those who did/are doing skype interviews soon. Did you guys use earphones or headphones during the interview? Is it ok to do so? Since my laptop's speakers are weak already it's easier to hear with earphones or headphones on so I'm just wondering if it's okay to do so just incase I ever get an interview. Thanks

Wow! Missed quite a few topics here. My parents aren't too keen on my MFA ambitions compared to my siblings' MD path. My dad is refusing to help me finance my tuition when I casually mentioned to him I'm thinking of applying for masters. He was saying things like 'what do I need it for?' but then he oh so willingly provided to pay the full ride of my siblings to medical school. My mom is somewhat supportive but doesn't want to provide tuition funds as well so right now I'm just focusing on the application and will worry about money if and when I get accepted. and regarding the statements of intent and other things, I haven't re-read or looked at my application materials since I submitted them. I just know I'll find errors in it so I'd rather not melt my brain thinking of all my mistakes until the results come out. Sometimes I also like to imagine that my application is a magical unicorn where the admissions people won't even have to interview me cause my application is just too brilliant so they just automatically accept me. LOL! On another note, I am feeling so sluggish and too lazy to do my work while waiting for interview/results. Anybody feel like that these days?

@NeistYou're right. I actually already thought of just reapplying next season if I don't get accepted. At least I'm better prepared for it, at least I hope so. Lol @Pink Fuzzy BunnyWhich school is your priority school? Congratulations on getting accepted into one of the top 10 though It sounds so exciting! Just think of the 500 as an investment into your future.

I'm using duolingo to try and learn French for just the fun of it. lol. If I get an interview and it goes poorly which is what I'm expecting at the moment, I will definitely just hide in my room for 3 days while eating junk food with the lights off and watching Friends reruns. lol. I kind of wished I applied to more schools but due to a limited budget and limited options I just focused on my priority school. No safety nets.

ohhhhh!!! that makes sense now! thanks! lol! my MFA track is on Fashion Design so I'm not really well versed on the research and professorship aspect of PhD applicants so I get a little lost in that regard. My reason for applying for an MFA is to develop my skills and become a better designer and expand my horizon. lol. Although, I wouldn't mind teaching at my undergrad alma mater in the future once I get over my public speaking nervousness. lol

@sjoh197ohhhh!! It sounds like a heavy course but it sounds awesome to get a PhD early in your career and at a young age are you planning on becoming a professor afterwards? @rosaliHopefully I do better at it than real life interviews. I just hope my internet doesn't fail me. lol! On a side note, what does POI mean? I've been seeing it all over the forums but never really sure what it means. lol

@haltheincandescentahhh! swiveling!! I was thinking if I used the right word. Swiveling is the correct term. lol! I tried to stop myself as well when I realized I was doing it but I couldn't. I felt like I was child lost in the corporate world. lol! I am definitely getting a non-swivel chair as well for a skype interview. haha!

I have 3 siblings but none have kids yet but I'm sure whatever kids they're going to have is more than enough already. lol!

@rosaliyes! even the most basic words and sentences just aren't coming out of my mouth during interviews. I will have a really good idea in my mind and then I will blabber incoherent nonsense out of my mouth. lol! It has cost me quite a few job interviews. lol! that's why i'm so worried about this interview if I ever get one. It's most likely going to be a skype interview so I enlisted the help of my friend, we'll skype and he can ask me interview questions so I can practice and try to at least not muddle my name. lol!

@piglet33ohhh! LDR is hard but I'm sure you can make it work as long as you both trust each other completely @sjoh197are you going straight from undergrad to grad school? I definitely think you're wise beyond your years! I'm sure during the time you were crying about mufasa, I was crying just about the same time as you. lol! Funny though most of my friends right now are around 22/23. I still feel so young. haha!

@anthrostudentcynlol! at 27 I still feel like I'm in my early 20s and I don't feel like I'm in the age for marriage either although society dictates that I'm supposed to be ready for it now. lol! On some days I feel like I can't even "adult" properly and question how most of my high school classmates are already on their 2nd babies or engaged or married when I can't even figure out what I'm doing with my life. lol.

wow! thank you for this! I will definitely keep it in mind During interviews I sometimes get too nervous trying to come up with the right words to properly express my thoughts that no words come out and I just end up sitting there looking all dumb while my mind is running a marathon lol! Sometimes I get lost in my nervousness I dont hear the question correctly and answer all wrong, and other times I just dont know what to do with my hands I get animated with them. lol! the worst one was during my very first internship interview when I was still an undergrad (that I unsurprisingly didn't get), I was literally fidgeting and slightly swinging (unconsciously) on the office chair lol! i was so nervous I only realized I was swinging the chair towards the end of the interview. so embarrassing. haha!

@sjoh197lol! when I meet a guy who insists on having children, I will give him the "you are welcome to be a stay-at-home dad and give up your career" line. hahaha! that's also kind of one of the reasons why i don't see kids in my future as well. My career (or lack thereof at the moment lol) is too important to me. haha! how old are you guys? I'm 27 now but I still feel too young to get married. lol!

@sjoh197oh no, so sorry to be hear about your daughter I think it's amazing though that you mutually decided not to have kids. I don't mind getting married but the kids thing is a no-no for me as well. I just don't see myself having one but I would love to have little nieces and nephews. lol. Right now I just need to find a guy who isn't into having kids too. I haven't met one yet and I'm starting to feel like they're a rare species. lol! Whenever I say something about how I don't see kids in my future whether to my friends or a potential boyfriend, they usually try to talk me out of it. haha!

@sjoh197awwww! they must be so excited to be grandparents. @tmh2890I feel the same. There are days when I feel like I might just be able to make it but then the next moment I'll feel like I'm so dumb there's no way they're accepting me. It's going to be an intense few months for our emotions. lol

@haltheincandescentWow! It sounds so exciting if Amy Poehler decides to speak at IU! and I totally forgot about April wanting to become a vet. I wish they continued her story down that path, she would've made a believable and good vet. lol. @gingin6789I named them after April and Andy cause they're the most mischievous ones out of the whole litter. haha! Ben's love for calzones really is one of the best parts. lol! The scene where they were food tasting and Ben got food poisoning from the calzones and he was like, "the calzones betrayed me!?" and the part where he wanted to open a restaurant called "low cal calzone zone" is just too funny. He's such a fun character. haha. I also like the office and it's always sunny but definitely like parks and rec the most. lol! i realized though that not a lot of people get the humor of parks and rec. I've been trying to convince a few people to watch it but they're not into it. I get the first season was slow though, it definitely found its footing at the end of season 2 when they introduced Ben and Chris.

@gingin6789if i ever get married, I want my groom to be Ben Wyatt. lol! is that so crazy? haha! I would settle for Adam Scott but he's already married. lol! I actually named my 2 of my dogs after April and Andy. I named them Ludgate and Dwyer. haha! Actually, we have 2 seasons, summer and rainy season. It's mostly summer though. lol!

@gingin6789parks and rec! i love that show! ben wyatt is amazing!!! lol. I actually didn't take the GRE test because it wasn't required in my program. I think they're largely basing the acceptance on my program on the portfolio, GPA, and statement of intent. I really hope they like my portfolio. On another note, I live near the equator so our weather is summer all year long. Thank goodness for air conditioners. lol

congratulations to everyone who has been accepted and to those chosen for interviews it's amazing how we are all here in one place stressing over the same thing but our fields are so different from each other. good luck to all of us! i hope we all get into our chosen schools

I only applied to 1 school (*GASP!*) cause that's the only school that has a program that really fits into what I'm looking for so it's still awhile before I hear anything from them. Based on the results search page they start sending out interview requests around February so I still have awhile to wait. I'm kind of hoping though that I wouldn't need an interview and just go directly to "congratulations! you've been accepted" lol!!! I get nervous a lot when it comes to interviews. I will probably mess up a lot and probably won't get in cause of that. lol!

wow! we really all have different fields I'm in design and the reason I want an MFA is so I can further my skills and knowledge and push myself to think more outside the box. and maybe, hopefully give myself an edge amongst the sea of designers. lol.

just out of curiosity, what courses are you guys applying for and what are you planning to do with your degrees after?
