  1. Yeah this was my fear. Thanks for the input. I will check this out. Thank you!
  2. Does anyone know of any funded masters programs for economics (preferably located somewhere near Philadelphia/NYC area)? I am a convert from physics to econ and so I don't have a good feel for the econ graduate landscape. I know for hard sciences there are usually grant funded master's programs as long as you are willing to be a TA/RA. For example, my girlfriend just got done a Masters in Biology and was able to get a TAship that offered full tuition plus a 20K stipend. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  3. Having the same issue. My partner is in medical school around Philadelphia, I got accepted to a few programs 3-7 hours away. My options are (1) go into a masters program locally and reapply to UPenn, Princeton, etc. in two years or (2) start a PhD program with a fellowship in the fall at a lower quality (still top 25) program. I will most likely take one of the offers and move out. My rationale is that if I wait 1-2 years then she will finish her program before me and we may end up having the identical problem when she looks for residencies, (plus paying 30K for a masters degree and forgoing a fellowship seems like a steep price). If you are both going to be super busy planning weekend trips to see each other and having more alone time during the week may actually not be the worst thing. Regardless, I am very interested in hearing opinions from people who may have already traveled this path. Best of luck and I hope everything works out. PS Congrats on even being waitlisted at Harvard, very impressive.
  4. Do you think I should do this at a masters level? Thanks for the reply
  5. This is my first post (so far I have just obsessively refreshed the results ) I have had a rough go round this application cycle with regards to top 25 programs (0/8/2 accepted/rejected/waiting). I believe my biggest weakness was not having a degree from a prestigious university. I was able to get into 2 "safe" schools and am sort of at a crossroads: Should I apply to prestigious masters programs and reapply PhD after completion or accept admission to "safe" school? Can you transfer out of a PhD program with a masters after qualifying exams (I assume this is very unprofessional). Any advice is much appreciated! A little background on myself: I have a BS in Physics and a BA in Econ from Rutgers-Camden. My GRE is 159/167/4 (V/Q/A) I have multiple publications and conference presentations in materials science. I have taught courses at Rutgers for the Physics department. P.S. I'd like to congratulate all of those that were accepted into their top choice(s).
