  1. I'm waiting on that one as well. I checked my app on their portal last night but no changes. @thefronge you got the invite via e-mail, right? Would they be sending their rejections at the same time you think? Truthfully, I don't expect to get an interview with them because they're sooo competitive, but I just hate waiting for an answer. But best of luck! Hope it goes well
  2. Hi, do you mean the regular supplemental app, in addition to the main CSDCAS one? Last year I did have both. This year, I e-mailed the admissions office and spoke to someone, so they carried over my information. I didn't have to repay a fee or anything, I only needed to make sure my info was up to date. I hope that helps!
  3. Well, in that case, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! It seems like decisions are starting to come in this week, so now I'm dying to hear back!
  4. Well, then I guess it's really just hoping for the best. In-state students were mentioned, but how do state schools value out-of-state applicants? I would think that since tuition costs more, it would play a part in the decision. Or do they generally prefer in-state applicants?
  5. But how would they be able to decide which counts as quality? I'm sure a ton of applicants have volunteering hours, internships, observation hours, etc. What sets all those apart from each other? It's just so crazy how competitive it is. And even being wait-listed feels stressful because then you have the uncertainty of what you'll be doing in the fall lingering.
  6. Sadly, the closest center is about 1.5 hours away, and I don't think I can make it during its business hours because I was as a teacher in a town that's in the opposite direction. The hospital I volunteer at doesn't allow us to help in the speech services center so I pretty much help in the senior center. I'm hoping to get to study aphasias more though in the clinic of whatever school I end up attending
  7. A 5.0GPA, undergrad research leading to the cure for cancer, be the MVP of the school football team, save puppies from burning buildings, and also have hobbies (with trophies) because you are a well-rounded person despite all the time the rest of those things took up. But really, I have no clue. I see people with 4.0 GPAs and internships and I think that's fantastic and they're definitely getting in. Then they say they got rejected and I'm like... Oh. Okay. I'm just gonna sit here and hope for a miracle then. On a side note, that volunteer experience sounds amazing. I would love to have a chance to volunteer with aphasia patients! It's something I've been super interested in since learning about it in my Psych of language class!
  8. I'm relieved to hear that then. I was hoping she was wrong, but it made me a bit paranoid. Didn't stop me from trying again, but at least now I can be a bit more hopeful lol! I definitely worked hard to improve my application, so I hope they notice that at least. I've heard the other side which is that the continued interest works in your favor, so maybe that'll happen!
  9. Uh, well then I think I can safely say I should expect a rejection letter, because your stats are better than mine. Do they look at outside stuff? I had the same confusion last year when some people with lower GPAs and GREs got into/were waitlisted to programs I was rejected to, so maybe they're looking for great extra curriculars or internships. My family is pretty convinced at this point that they draw names out of a hat, so who knows lol :/
  10. Ah sorry, I'm on my phone and it's not showing, so I'll check from the pc later!
  11. Ouch, sorry do you mind me asking your stats? I majored in linguistics, GPA 3.63, GRE scores were 159 V, 145 Q (I don't have the scores in front of me so I don't recall if it was 145 or 155) 4.5W. Do they look at outside stuff like internships and jobs as well, or scores only? Either way, I'm sorry you didn't get in. I hope you get some good news from other schools soon!!
  12. Im sorry it didn't work out for you. There's still hope for BU though! I applied to St. Rose but didn't hear back anything regarding interviews or rejections. Did you get any other email updates before their response?
  13. I was actually about to post. I just got the email and finished updating the app. It asks if you've ever applied before, and if you had any previous affiliation with the school. It may say pay fee, but it's set to $0. Hopefully we'll hear regarding interviews in their next email. On a side note, my professor told me if you apply to a school and get rejected once, they don't consider you for the next year if you try again. I didn't get an interview last year, so I'm nervous for BU. Has any heard their professors or advisors say anything like that?
  14. Hi, I think they send out e-mails in waves. It was the same for acceptances and rejections. I just got mine today, but I think they're finishing up the applications all through this week, so don't worry too much! Best of luck! To answer rainsonata, the interview was pretty easy. I truthfully don't remember exactly what they asked. It was last year during my senior year so I was really busy then. I would just make sure you're familiar with things they offer in their program, the Glebbie clinic, and mention research opportunities you'd be interested in. Maybe read up on some recent news/achievements on their FB or their website and mention it to show more interest in the school and that you're up to date with their current achievements. Anyone wanna add to that list lol?
  15. Just got an e-mail from Syracuse stating that next week they'll start sending out e-mails in waves to schedule phone interviews. Here's to panicking/being hopeful. I have a trip abroad in mid March, so I hope it's not schedule for that time lol. I was waitlisted last year, so I'm hopeful that and the continued interest in the program will work in my favor. Has anyone else applied to Syracuse? Or visited the campus? And even though I did the phone interview last year, I was wondering if anyone had any advice to give for those kinds of interviews? I pretty much know to look up the curriculum, clinical practice, and ask about various opportunities with the on-campus Gebbie clinic, but if anyone has anything else to suggest, I'd be super grateful for the extra advice
  16. Ah, I see. I didn't even think to apply for post bacc, as I was planning to just complete my prereqs before/during my grad studies. I think it depends on the school and what they allow. Thanks for the information! I reeeally hope I get into at least 1 program this year so I don't have to do the application process a third time, but if I do, I'll definitely start applying to post bacc as well!
  17. Hey, thanks for the advice! I'm not dead set on the location. I'm fine with going to an East coast school, I just meant that if I got accepted, I would love to start out on the west coast early on. Plus Boston and NYC are crazy expensive areas to live, and I have a dog I'd be moving out with into an apartment, so affordability is another thing for me. But I'm open to all my options, so I'll see what happens As for the prereqs, I checked, and while I have a good amount done (depending on the schools), I don't have them all. I'm taking some online, and plan to take more this summer. It's something I'm really nervous about, but I'm hoping my experience working as a teacher and the fact that my grades in CSD courses are mostly A's will help me. I know some schools let you complete them while you also complete your program. Was it difficult for you to get into a program as someone from an outside major? How did they feel about you doing prereqs? Or did you complete them all before applying?
  18. Hey guys! I'm new to gradcafe and just found this forum via google. I read a few posts and saw some of you guys applying to the same places I am, so it would be nice to connect and see how everyone else is feeling about the process. Right now, it's the anxiously waiting part of the applications. I graduated in May 2015 from an outside major in Linguistics, minor in cognitive science. My cumulative GPA is a 3.63, and an added 4.0 GPA from 2 online prereq courses (currently taking another 2). My GRE scores were 159 verbal, and 144 quantitative, 4.5 writing. I have completed an internship at a private speech clinic and currently work as an ESL teacher at a private language school and volunteer at a local hospital. I applied last year to 4 schools, and was wait-listed to 1. No one was taken from the list according to the program director, so I'm re-applying to 12 programs this time, just to be safe. I applied to: Stockton Boston University MGH Portland State University UW- Eau Claire (I'm currently enrolled for online courses) College of St. Rose Adelphi Syracuse- waitlisted last year :'( University of Northern Colorado online program William Paterson Montclair Queens College I'm really hoping to be accepted into Queens, Syracuse, and Portland, with the last being my top choice, as I'd eventually like to make connections and work on the west coast and get my start as a professional there. Queens is a main choice because of inexpensive living arrangements with my family, and Syracuse just because I'm hoping my chances are good after being waitlisted last year. Boston was mainly a reach school, but I applied last year and my professor told me if you were rejected once, your chances to get into that same school are halved the next year because they already looked at your application once and don't want to repeat the process, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Has anyone heard back about interviews or know when we should hear about them? Nice to meet you all and best of luck with getting in :)!
