Awesome! Do you know by chance when those people were scheduled to have the interviews, and if they do phone/skype interviews, or only in-person?
-
Oh man, I've probably checked this website multiple times every hour today. I hope you hear back asap!!!
-
Thanks.. I'm checking gradcafe and my e-mails like every 20 minutes while procrastinating on assignments. I feel like I got notifications from 3 schools straight away, and the rest are all waiting to see who can hold out longest before sending out letters/e-mails lol.

Lol, it's actually really silly, but I'm freaking out because last year I applied and got rejected to all my schools (and wait-listed to one), and I ended up crying a bit the day I got that last rejection letter, even though I thought I'd be able to deal with it a little better. I'll be traveling abroad for most of this March, so I'm just kind of scared I'll get the rejections somewhere in a foreign country and end up awkwardly crying in public or in the hotel. It's embarrassing, and totally a worst case scenario fear (if I get rejected to 12 schools I think I might have to reconsider if I belong in this field), but I just really am hoping to avoid finding out if it'll come true or not . Lame, but I'm terrified of rejections pouring in during that time.

Oh okay. I'm getting anxious. It seems like this forum is getting a lot of activity but so far I've only heard back from 3/12 schools. I hope next week some schools start sending out decisions.

Has anyone heard anything from Queen's College, William Paterson, Montclair, UW Eau Claire (on-campus), or MGH? For William Paterson, I completed everything by Dec 23rd, but it says ready for review as of 2/27/16, which is today. Does that mean that I'll have an answer soon? Some people were saying they checked the portal and their info was gone completely, so I'm a little nervous because that didn't happen to me. I'm not sure if that means they already got decisions and didn't post them on here, or if there was an error?

Every email I get is a mini heart attack. I look forward to and dread going to my mailbox every day. I'm seeing so many people getting responses this week, I'm hoping we all hear back really soon..

Literally watching the 2016 applicant forum in my field blow up with responses people received. I've heard back from 3/12 programs- 2 rejections, and 1 interview to a school I was wait-listed at last year (I'll get their answer sometime next month). The anticipation is the worst part. I just need one acceptance in order to breath easy. Just one I think I unintentionally applied to all the programs that wait until the last minute to give you a response... Or is it a good sign that they weren't immediate rejections?

Congratulations!

Oh, okay, hopefully we'll hear back soon!

Someone posted that they got an interview with Queen's College. Has anyone else heard from them?

Oh, and just to let you know, I didn't originally plan to do speech pathology, and changed my mind about my major when I transferred to a 4 year university. I didn't understand how competitive the programs were, applied to 4 schools, and didn't get in. I didn't have a back up plan either. You cry, you call your friends and talk to them, you do things that make you feel better (yoga and tea helped me), and you realize you have an entire year to focus on growing yourself. I promise that even if you feel like you've hit a dead-end, things will be better. I wasn't working, finished college, didn't have anything I could really do with my bachelors (linguistics with a minor in cognitive science), and was freaking out. I spent the summer interning, started volunteering, adopted a puppy, got an ESL certification, and now work as a teacher part time, making a good wage and getting skills I can apply to my future career, and I took this time to save up and am about to travel abroad. It might seem like things are bad at first if you don't get in, but now you have an entire year that's entirely yours, so take some time to relax after the whole application cycle, and then make the best of it you can

My friend and I had similar issues, with her not realizing how competitive grad school can be and not understanding why I'm freaking out, and me not quite understanding her fear of not knowing what she wants to do with her major. The best thing to realize is that both fears are valid. You can support her and be there for her, and still be afraid for your own reasons. Being afraid because of not having a backup plan and being afraid of not knowing what you want to do are both okay. You don't have to share her fear to support her, and vice versa. I would talk to her and let her know that talking about your own anxiety doesn't mean you're disregarding hers. Listen if she needs to talk about it, offer any advice you can. My best friend felt like she would be locked into a career and if she doesn't like it, she'll be trapped because she isn't sure what she wants to do with her major, and won't be able to afford to go back to college later to change it. My advice to her is that she majored in English, and can do a lot of different jobs. She can use those to build her resume, and talk about skills she's gained, and use that to her advantage if she wants to try work in a different field. I don't know if that's the same as your friend's fear, but maybe offer that advice? There will also be times where you're both stressed out, don't understand each other, and can't resolve it. That's fine too. I think by the time we're adults, we're all mature enough to understand we won't agree on everything. As long as she understands you're there for her, and that her feelings are valid whether you understand or not, things will be fine between you guys. And let her know you hope she feels the same. Hope that helps!

Ah, okay. I feel better hearing that. I was a transfer and commuter student at my state college, and had to drive a total of 3 hours a day to my classes, 5 days a week. I didn't have time to take on any research or extra curriculars because of travel time, as well as course load (18-20 credits per semester). I tried to make up for last year by doing an internship and taking pre-reqs online as well as working, but we'll see... On a side note, how was their program with funding, if you know anything about that? I looked at scholarships but it looked like they were all for current students or accepted students, rather than applicants. And most were for undergrads, I believe.

Ah okay, thanks for clarifying! I guess if there are no interviews, they look purely at numbers. :/
-
I'm the same way right now. Any e-mail from a school gives me a second of panic before I actually read it. Uuuugh, March can't get here soon enough
-
Oh man, late March feels so far away. I'm dying to know!! I got my Syracuse email yesterday to schedule a time, so I'm doing mine Thursday. My friend got her invite last week though so I was panicking for a bit thinking I didn't actually get one. I'm not sure how they're organizing it, because she and I both have last names that start with Z. If you don't hear back from Syracuse, I would call them to see what's going on.
-
I just got a reminder e-mail about the survey and had a small heart attack. This is my top choice school and every time I see sometime in my inbox from them I panic. Does anyone know if they do interviews or just send out acceptances/rejections?
-
I'm so glad I found this while I was procrastinating working out lol . I don't usually stress eat, but when I do- Wheat Thins. Usually with a cup of hot chocolate and a Disney movie or video games so I can avoid thinking about impending rejections from the programs I haven't heard back from . I could probably finish the box and be ready for seconds before the trailers are done. Oops.
-
Oh bummer I'm going on a trip abroad March 10th to March 20th, so I feel you. I guess I'm not getting my hopes up. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. Has anyone heard from Queen's College yet by chance?
-
I haven't heard back from them either. I'm thinking of calling them next week and asking if all the interviews were already sent out :/
-
Oh no, I hope you do hear back! and thank you!!
-
I got an e-mail from Portland State University just now! I almost had a heart attack because it's my top choice. "Hello! Thank you again for applying to PSU's Speech and Hearing Sciences graduate program. At this time, our department requires additional information to begin our review process. Please click on the link below and complete the survey by Friday, February 19, 2016...." It just asked for us to fill out our name, preferred e-mail according to our application, and our GPA from our most recent BA/BS school, and our GPA from the school we used to complete pre-reqs. Now I can sit here and wait with anxiety until I hear back. Earlier their e-mails promised a response by mid-March. I'll be in Japan and I really don't want to cry over a rejection on my vacation lol.
-
Well, ironically, I got the rejection from BU right after posting this. But I really didn't expect to get an interview from them in the first place, it was more of a reach and hope I get lucky school . Truthfully, I'm more happy to have a definite answer than I am disappointed. Best of luck to everyone who did get interviews!
-
Thanks, you as well! I'm hoping that no answer means no rejection yet at least. I'm not sure if they do it in waves, or only to one group, but I'm trying to be positive. It seems like now is the time we're starting to hear back! I still haven't heard anything from St. Rose as well, which is driving me crazy
