  1. I think it's safe to safe Queens is a no go, and I don't really expect an acceptance from MGH at this point, so it's 6/12 schools. Half of my schools either rejected me or have me waiting. I know there are still 6 to go, but I feel like the competition for NJ schools was insane last year, and a lot will probably take their undergrads. I'm just waiting for the rejection from Portland right now. I think once I hear it from my top choice, the rest won't feel quite as bad in comparison.I know after the initial disappointment wears off, I'll find a better way to view the situation, but right now things just don't feel so great
  2. I did the same thing once I started the application process haha. And ironically, after posting about not hearing back and then going for a walk, I came back to a waitlist e-mail for the school I thought I had the best shot with. So much for Syracuse. It came a lot earlier this year though. But it makes me wonder what else I could have done. Even in the interview, the woman told me they looked over everything I did to improve the app and were really impressed, and my ESL job helped. I'm going to e-mail and ask about it, but this is so disheartening. I thought I had the best shot at this school, so at this point I'm pretty sure I'll have a third year of applications to do, which makes me feel ill :(.
  3. Has anyone gotten any e-mails from MGH? I heard all other decisions were supposed to be e-mailed today. It's the second week of March and the only letter I've received today is a credit card offer I'm dying to hear something by Tues or Wed, otherwise I find out everything while I'm abroad.
  4. Sorry, I applied through CSDCAS so I don't think I have access to the portal. :/
  5. I think it was Professor Leece or Lowery. It was a little difficult to hear, but her name had an L at the beginning haha.
  6. Okay, awesome! I interviewed the 18th as well, so hopefully, they'll notify us some time this week if they aren't running behind! Best of luck
  7. Ah okay, thanks. I know the woman from Syracuse told me when after the interview, but I just can't remember. I should have wrote it down :(.
  8. It could be the most common placing, but I think I read that NYC, NJ, Rhode Island, and Florida were all possibilities. And yes, I think it won snowiest city like 7 years in a row. I hate the cold, but its one of my top 2 because of my previous application. I'm starting to get so nervous that I'll be happy accepted anywhere, though I'd prefer for it to be Syracuse or PSU. Did you apply there? And if so, any idea when we should hear back? I'm just so tired I can't remember what they said during the interview.
  9. I don't know too much about the faculty specifically. A few names were mentioned, but I've honestly had a crazy weekend with homework and I can't think of them right now. As for placements, I believe you can do clinicals in your last year in various parts of the east coast- I think you aren't limited to just Syracuse, though I'm not too sure how it works. My main question for them was whether the program was focused on a school program or medical program, and it seems like they try to give students a chance to work in both so they can decide which they prefer. Usually, if a student says they only want to work with kids/adults, they will try to give them varied time in both so that they can experience it and decide after. Personally, I like the idea that the program isn't leaning towards one or the other. I generally prefer adult learners when I teach, but I want the chance to experience both. Another thing I really liked is that you can get a NYC teaching license while in the program, which apparently is reciprocal with a lot of other states, so moving around and teaching is easier. I also know they have an on-campus clinic, the Gebbie Clinic, which has a few specialties, including aphasia, and students do get to work there as well. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but if you have specific questions, I can try to answer them! I hope that helped though
  10. Haha, yet we all keep logging in. I have online courses and I'm trying to complete the assignments but I'm just really burned out atm, so I keep checking here every time I find myself procrastinating! I heard MGH is giving e-mail decisions for everyone who hasn't heard by phone on Monday, so I just really want it to be tomorrow so I know for sure!
  11. I finished my application in January (I think Adelphi had a Feb deadline), and I still haven't heard back. I also haven't heard from Stockton, William Paterson, or Montclair. Has anyone else been notified by any of them?
  12. Oh man, I'm sorry. I've had some nightmares about rejections as well, though not gradcafe related haha. I've been waking up at random intervals at the night dreaming that I forgot to do something or was late with something for my apps, which have been finished since January. I think a break from gradcafe might be healthy at this point ... And yet, here I am lol.
  13. Thanks! I'm pretty confident in my LOR for the most part, though I did unfortunately have an issue with one. One was from an SLP I interned with, who I worked with multiple times and sent me a gift card as a thank you, had me babysit the children a few times during parent meetings, etc. So I think that one was strong, and I have another professor who I worked with for 2 years, who was very willing to write me a recommendation and pretty much told students that she wouldn't say yes unless she was actually willing to do so, and one of the schools I applied to even used her published work as readings for our class (I was waitlisted there, so I'm not too upset lol). My third letter was from the department director, who unfortunately I only had one semester, in a big lecture class. All my other 3 options for the final letter actually left the country or took personal leave and I couldn't contact them, and I needed it to be from a professor. It made it really difficult to find someone, as I was trying to contact them all summer and was running out of time :/ For the essays, I usually try to be thorough and address all the topics asked for each school. If a school asks why I want to be a speech pathologist and what qualities I feel are important to be a good SLP, my first priority would be to address those, and then use any extra room to express my interest in the school. I think this year some of the schools shortened the essay length from 1000 words to 500, so it became extra challenging to fit everything in, the way I would like to word it. I found myself writing it all out and then having to erase like half of it to make it fit the requirements. Hopefully it didn't sound too choppy. I didn't know too much about the Queens College program, truthfully. My mom is an alumni and told me to apply because of affordability. It looks like a great program, but I have some concerns about where I'd be living, as I have a dog and she'd be coming with me, and the apartment situation we have isn't ideal. Plus NYC is really expensive, and driving in the city is my worst nightmare because I have a stick shift haha. So I'm not as upset about probably being rejected as I am about losing another possible option. The wait is becoming so nerve-wracking because I haven't gotten a single acceptance yet. I'm holding out for Syracuse and PSU. I spoke to the program director for Syracuse after being waitlisted (I was at the top of the list but they told me they didn't accept anyone that year), and this year during the phone interview they made mention of the improvements they saw, and said they were impressed that I took the advice into account. They also gave an extra option to explain any low GPA stuff, which I think really helped me out. I just hope to hear back soon..
  14. Thanks, I'll check it out! I really hope this year is better for both of us! At least its only a few weeks left of waiting... :/
  15. Oh okay, I'm not familiar with Canadian schools I can't believe they didn't even look at your application though, that's pretty terrible on their part. Last year, I applied and had a GPA of 3.75 as well, but I was a transfer student and had a lower GPA from my first school due to personal problems. Pretty much my first year and a half, I got down to like a 2.8 because of reasons completely outside of school, but my last year and a half was 4.0 every semester and was on the Dean's List and working part time. I graduated with like a 3.0 and transferred to my state school, which gave me a separate GPA (3.63 when I graduated). So when CSDCAS averaged them together, I had like a 3.2, despite showing an improved GPA for the past 3.5 years (I studied 5 years total between the schools). I wasn't able to see what it averaged to this year, as the system changed a bit, but I still can't imagine it being that great. It was discouraging because it feels like they won't even see the improvement despite the fact that I was 17-18 when I had the bad GPA, and am 23 now, and a lot has changed in that time. I guess it's beyond our control at this moment though, so all we can do is hope that some of the schools will look beyond the grades and at the whole application. I really hope they take a look at your application because you deserve a fair chance!
  16. Oh man, its really tough But you have experience actually being in the field, so your chances should be improved a lot by that! I was considering becoming an SLPA but I wasn't sure how, or where I would be able to do that, as I live in NJ and I don't think its an option here. I don't know your stats, but I feel like with the experience and improvement in your pre-reqs, you definitely would have a good chance. Hang in there! If you don't mind me asking, how does it work in order to become an SLPA? I thought there was still an exam to pass and courses to take? Unless I misunderstood what I read about it?
  17. I'm sorry It's rough receiving rejections. Maybe the program that accepted you will turn out to be a pleasant surprise though. I think once the stress of waiting for decisions to come is over, it'll be easier to see the positive aspects of that program and find things you'd be excited about there. Hang in there!
  18. Thanks. I just feel kind of sick from stress tonight after seeing my friend's post on facebook that she was accepted. I'm really happy for her and she absolutely deserves it, but it scares me because we took the same courses, had a similar GPA I think, and had one LOR in common. We both even transferred the same year. I wasn't able to participate in research because I was a commuter and had 18 credits the semester they started looking for RAs, so I'm wondering if that hurt my chances at schools. I also interned at a clinic, but don't have any observation hours. Most places I contacted didn't respond, and other places were just too far away. If I don't get in, I'm not sure what I can do a third year out from college to improve my chances. I'm currently doing pre-reqs and I work as an ESL teacher. I'm absolutely dreading a third year in a row of going through this process. If I found this website sooner, I would have checked out which programs weren't as popular and tried for those, or looked for places that take lower GPAs or more out of field students. But I'll be looking out for that e-mail. I guess the worst that happens is I hold on to see if I'm taken off the waitlist for UWEC or if another school accepts me. It's just scary watching my options dwindle down After spending a year doing an internship, paying out of my savings for a CELTA certificate to be able to teach, working to boost my resume, and doing the prereqs, I feel really down about this process.
  19. Do you guys think it would be safe to say I'm rejected from Queens College if I haven't received an interview offer by now? My friend also got a call from MGH tonight regarding an acceptance, and my application still says "being reviewed" in the portal, so should I assume that's a rejection too? I'm starting to get nervous because I haven't gotten a single acceptance out of 12 schools. Makes me wonder if my stats are worse than I thought.. But I don't even know what I can do to raise them since I've already graduated. I've taken the GRE twice and scored the same on verbal both times, and only got 1 point higher on math. My writing score did go up as I was more prepared for the essays this time. But other than continuing to get good grads with my pre-req, I'm not sure what else to do to improve if I don't get accepted. I think I panic a little more each passing day...
  20. I didn't see this until later and I already sent it out Oh well, at least they'll receive my response soon then.. Yesss. I'm still holding out for PSU and Syracuse though. The waiting is torture!!
  21. They had a letter I should mail back with my info, but would it be better to call/e-mail? Or do both lol? I'm still waiting to hear back from my top 2, so the wait still feels totally nerve wracking.
  22. I would call them to ask about the interviews. I know last year they sent decisions pretty late though. I can't remember for sure, but I thought I got my response at the end of March or like the very beginning of April. I'm sure last year's poll results will show. Whenever I called and spoke to people there, they were friendly and helpful, so they might just be overwhelmed with e-mails?
  23. Just heard back from UWEC and I got waitlisted, but I'm just happy it's not a rejection and that they didn't forget about me!!
  24. I feel your pain. 4 of my schools have given people decisions and I'm just sitting here like... Uh, you didn't forget me, right??? Hang in there, this is the last month of waiting!!
