  1. I only been to one of these schools (UCSD alumni) and would encourage to ignore the social stuff. It's your Masters you will be really really busy. Plus everyone I know we was involved at school had an active social life it was the people who expect a social life to come to them that had problems. There is no Greek housing and no D1 sports team, but you have a normal adult social life. You meet friends you go out with them around town (the town is nice, but it's different then LA in both some good and bad ways). It's really not a big deal since once again you will be busy, most graduate students I talked to while there hung out in the pub or other places that sold alcohol (there are about 5 or 6 on campus) because there isn't much time to do a lot of events/partying. One more thing, if you think the people at anyone program kind of suck then I would consider that strongly, you'll have to spend a lot of time with them so that matters, how much will depend on your personality. So just go where you think you'd have the best academic experience (keeping money in mind) just my opinion.
  2. Well I was rejected from Stanford but accepted to UCLA (Urban Schooling) waiting to hear from Berkeley and UCSD but honestly for education policy specifically aimed at students in urban areas, I don't think there is a better fit then UCLA, but I can't bring myself to accept until after I hear from everyone.
  3. Hmm hearing different things about UCSD, I know it's their first years so maybe way its somewhat unclear. It's interesting though when I talked to faculty there back in December they are saying they wanted their decisiosn out before most other programs, especially other UCs since they are new and want to secure their people early. Seems that didn't work out.
  4. " The earliest decisions are made in late February, continuing into April. Notifications are sent by e-mail. " This is what is on their website says. I haven't heard of anyone getting accepted yet, so we probably just have to wait. I know someone said they contacted their mentor and got a rejection but that doesn't mean they made all their decisions. Through April is way too late for me personally I have an open house for another program in March if I don't hear back by then I probably won't consider them (it may be a rejection anyways)
  5. I made it clear in when I interviewed for my current job that I was planning on applying to grad school and would likely only be at the job for two years, they hired me anyways and my co-workers/supervisor have pretty much been kept up to date on everything. It's a small team only 7 of us and I go out with my co-workers regularly so it was something I wanted to share with them, and I am also encouraging a few of my co-workers to go back to school since they aren't that happy right now. I did get accepted to one of my top choices so I let me supervisor know and I give me details tell him as soon as I knew the timelines and I would help fill my position, it took them 6 months to find me, hopefully I can improve on that. I did the same at my previous job, I let them know early and recruited people to apply for my position. I work in social services so pretty much everyone is a social worker or case manager or counselor, so overall a very supportive group.
