  1. Hey peeps! Anyone applying to UBC Vancouver campus to the Advanced Standing program?
  2. I called UBC Vancouver and asked when they usually make decisions. The said "around this time of the year". I don't know what that means and it definitely didn't ease my stress. Fingers crossed for all of us!
  3. Thanks for the update and congrats on the acceptance! I’m still waiting on UBC Van...
  4. Hey! Are you with VACFSS or MCFD? I'm aiming to do the family and child stream at UBC.
  5. If anyone has applied to UBC Van (I know I sound like a broken record), I just called them clarifying the stats course requirement. It says on the UBC calendar that you need a stats course but it doesn't say anything about it on the program calendar. They confirmed that you DO NOT need a stats course for admission. I don't know if anyone else was confused about this but I thought I'd throw out a lil PSA
  6. Mine says "in progress". I haven't been emailed anything and nothing has changed since I applied. Hopefully we both hear something soon - waiting it the worst! I think that there are a couple people who have heard something from UBCO on this thread but I'm not sure if it was advanced or two-year. Definitely give the thread a read through, though! Good luck!
  7. I can't find anything on here about when people hear from UBC so I'm checking my email a smooth 100+ times a day. Does anyone know anyone or have experience with UBC advanced MSW admissions? For all I know I could be waiting until April and wasting a lot of stress and energy checking my email every 30 seconds (I keep asking myself if I really want to find out while I'm going to the washroom...). Also, I can't find anything on the website
  8. I did my BSW at UNBC and a few people went right on to their MSW. I think most of them heard by end of February/beginning of March. EDIT: This was not the MSW foundation but the advanced MSW.
  9. I've heard good things about UVIC as well. I was hesitant about an online program for such a practical degree. I am in the lower mainland (Vancouver) and hope to stay in the city and build contacts here. I am hoping to do a more clinical focused degree. I'll see what happens with this application and if I am not accepted this year (probably won't be), I will definitely consider UVIC for next year. Thanks again!
  10. Thank you so much for being honest and sharing this. The UBC advanced MSW is the only program I applied to because I am not in a position to relocate somewhere else at the moment. I'm now worried that if I'm admitted, I'll be wasting my time and money... Are there any accreditation issues for the advanced program? I do know that UBC Van has had serious issues with racism and sexism in their business school but I would have never thought that the school of social work would have these issues as well. Thanks again for sharing. I've been looking everywhere for some kind of review or opinion on the advanced MSW.
  11. That may not be the case for the two schools you're applying for! I'm applying for school in BC and that's what it says on the admission requirements for it. I would just look at the FAQs on the websites if you're unsure!
  12. Hey! I graduated with a few people that went straight on to their MSWs. They stayed at the same school so that may have worked in their favor. A couple of them were mature students with a lot of experience prior to receiving their BSW, as well. I don't know about Ryerson or UofT but I know that a lot of schools ask for two years of "post-BSW work or volunteer experience". I also know that a lot of schools will not accept practicum hours as experience.
  13. Thanks for answering! UBC-o honestly sounds so much more organized than the Vancouver campus... I'll keep checking my email with my sweaty nervous hands. I didn't think people would be finding out so soon!
  14. Has anyone heard anything from UBC Vancouver? It says if we were to be considered, we still need to send in our official transcripts. They only asked for scanned ones in the application.
  15. Hey! Thanks for the info! I actually did my BSW up north at UNBC so I'd like to stay down south if possible! I applied for the 1 year program at UBC (I guess they shut down their two year non-BSW) and I would love to go there. It seems like eastern schools are discussed the most on this forum. For this application to UBC I stated that I would like to focus on the family stream; however, I like that it is overall a clinical program. I do plan on registering here but I'm hoping they solidify the testing and financial aspects first... it's a disaster right now. Thanks again for your help!
  16. Hey everyone! Has anyone applied to any school in BC? I only applied to UBC. In the likely chance that I don't get in first try, I'd like to apply to a few more places next year. Does anyone have any experience with UVIC or UBCO? Ideally I'd like to stay in BC
  17. Hey! I am also applying for the UBC MSW program for 2018. They have changed the requirements from last year to say that you need two years post BSW experience. I am not sure how lenient they are with this but I would honestly just call the School of Social Work and ask. I called and they were actually pretty helpful. Did you do your BSW at UBC? If so, that may work in your favor for moving to the MSW program.
  18. Thank you for all this information! It looks like I have the right research methods course from UNBC. I will definitely check into these programs. I don't have a stats course but does Carleton have a list of acceptable ones? I know UBC requires a stats course as well and has a list of the acceptable ones.
  19. Hey everyone! I just found this forum and was hoping to gain some insight regarding the application process for MSW programs in Canada. I am currently in my last couple weeks of the BSW program at University of Northern BC (UNBC) and was wondering what most MSW programs accept as a research methods course. I have a SOCW research policy and practice course. Also, does anyone have any good advice about some good MSW programs. I have looked into UBC's program but have not heard good things. I have heard good things about U of T and York. Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated Thank you!
