  1. I just put it in my signature. But I will consider making an academia.edu page!
  2. Phillipa Foot's Natural Goodness is quite a good read. But I finished reading it with the sense that a lot went unfinished. Especially the part concerning Nietzsche. I got a similar sense when I read Christine Korsgaard's Self-Constitution: Agency, Identity and Integrity. Both are great reads and give a good sense that philosophers in meta-ethics are trying to show how we can be responsible for ourselves and our motivations while being present in the world. To me, meta-ethics feels very existential. Korsgaard's first line in the first chapter of Self-Constitution literally says "Human beings are condemned to choice and action." Both are also something of a continuation of the tradition from G.E. Moore. Currently reading: The Possibility of Altruism, by Thomas Nagel Ethics and the Limits of Philosophy, by Bernard Williams The Claim of Reason, by Stanley Cavell
  3. @Another applicant I posted my writing sample in my signature. It works now.
  4. Unfortunately, the website says the file is too large? It is odd because the file is only 300 kb or 18 pages long. But, if you are still interested in reading/critiquing I will send you a link.
  5. You are not kidding. You have some great options! @Cecinestpasunphilosophe Did your program let you do an MA? Do you think it helped you?
  6. For what it is worth, here is my writing sample for this past year. What do you guys think? Good/Bad? Self-Consciousness as Freedom.pdf
  7. Hello philosophy admissions community! The admissions season is almost over and I find myself in the position of being accepted to a program without funding. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to move and undertake the program without funding so I will have to turn down the offer. Does the community think it is wise/possible to reapply next year? Also, I would like to reach out to others who have been shut out this year. What are you thinking? Is it worth reapplying? Background info: UGRAD GPA: 3.896 PHIL GPA: 3.97 GRE 160/152/4.5 I did not study properly for the GRE so, if I reapply, I will be resitting the exam. Also, my writing sample ended up being good but I literally finished it as I hit deadlines. This year, I think I will start NOW rather than LATER.
  8. Hi! I am new the forums but I am not new to applying for graduate school. I currently hold an offer of admission from Northern Illinois University with a wait list offer on funding and I am hoping funding will come through soon. Since many others are probably in this boat - NIU says I am somewhere around 30th on the waitlist - I thought we would share where we are at deciding to attend NIU. It could help all of us decide whether it is worth attending another school. At the moment, I am considering deferring enrollment for a year if possible because I do not think funding will come through. BUT I am super hopeful an assistantship will turn up in the University OR the Governor of Illinois will stop his "austerity measures" and return funding to normal. What are you guys thinking?
