  1. I posted this in the Social Work thread but thought it would be better to post it here: I applied to CSU San Marcos on January 3rd with my transcripts from the 4 year university i went to, the 3 letters of recommendation and my personal narrative. Today I get an email stating that I need to send in transcripts from Mira Costa Community College ( I took a summer class there years ago). I'm very frustrated that it took the university a whole month to contact me. On top of that I have now found out that I am not in the priority applicant pool anymore. I know it is my responsibility to have the transcripts in, but it is also the universities responsibility to communicate accordingly and I don't feel that has happened. To make things worse, my father has emailed the Department Chair of the MSW Program asking that once my transcripts are recieved to be put back in the priority pool. Now I didn't ask him to do this, he did this on his own without talking to me. So my question is: am I in the wrong to feel this way? What can I do?
  2. I agree. I didn't ask or want my father to send an email. He did it on his own accord.
  3. I'm planning on working towards my LCSW after I get my MSW. I'm wanting to work with adults. The reason I chose a 3 year program is so I can work during the first semester. They are also accredited now. I hope that I can get financial aide though, I really need it.
  4. Why do you think it might be seen as a red flag?

  6. Has anyone heard back that has applied to CSU San Marcos?
  7. Congratulations!!
  8. Hi everyone. I applied to CSU San Marcos January 3rd (Closing was January 6th) BA in Social Work I have a 3.5 Cumulative GPA Major GPA 3.70 I got a letter of recommendation from: a professor who taught some of the Social Work Classes I took, a Special Education Teacher I worked for for 6 months and a Case Manager I worked with at my internship for my senior year. Because of my Major I've had volunteer work every year that I was in school. I've volunteered at an Elementary school, Boys and Girls Club, an Elementary school in their Special Education Classroom (I was also a Yard Duty there), and at a Homeless Shelter/Transitional Program for at-risk youth. Since graduating I've worked with Adults with developmental disabilities, as a Special Education Aide in a K-3 Mod-Severe classroom, an On call Residential Counselor for youth coming out of Juvenile Hall/in Foster Care and can't find placements, and now I currently work full time as a Residential Assistant for a 30 Day rehab/detox for adults struggling with drug addiction/alcohol addiction.
  9. ok great thank you!
  10. Do you know if it differs by major? All i know is CSU San Marcos charges $499 per unit and has fees of $787 per semester. I'm planning on doing their 3 year program and I'd have to pay $787 8 times. San Diego State's MSW site says they charge $7800 per year for tuition and fees for full time students.
  11. That makes sense. It's confusing too though when one school says how much they charge a year for full time and the other just says how much they charge per unit. Thanks though that's a really good point.
  12. Hi everyone, I'm wondering if California State Universities can charge different amounts for tuition for graduate programs? Side note: I'm hoping to go to CSU San Marcos and noticed that San Diego State is cheaper.
  13. anyone heard back yet??
  14. One year a long time ago, there were penguins who didn't wear hats when swimming. This made their mothers livid. "Unacceptable!" Frightened, they screamed, "Bears!" Nobody seemed convinced so instead of going swimming they tried juggling. Their mothers tried everything they thought would teach her a skill. However, she couldn't even make oatmeal without disastrous results. So, the penguins gathered money (obviously) trying to purchase a bear. Towering over them, a grizzly beast danced, devouring all bears with such ferocity that even God enjoyed it. Afterwards, God congratulated the penguins and applauded them. "You did it!" Suddenly, the grizzly beast started dancing vigorously. There was an acromantula nearby. It challenged the preconception that magical mushrooms were magical. Sparkling, the magical mushrooms were spreading throughout town. Nobody with pyromania thought
  15. Humboldt State University has a fully online MSW program.
  16. Hi everyone! I applied to CSU San Marcos's 3 year MSW Program, I have a 3.6 GPA and over 1500 hours of work and volunteer experience. I haven't heard back yet. Is it true though that they cost double the amount of other CSU's? I know they charge $499 per unit and to graduate you need 60 units. If anyone has any info or opinion on their program please let me know!
  17. I feel like it's really fast if anything. I'm scared too because some people were talking about how their program is double the cost of other csu's. do you know if that's true??
  18. Hi everyone! I applied to Cal State San Marcos for their MSW Program. I applied January 3rd and called them and they said I should hear back by early February. Does that seem realistic???
  19. Hi everyone. So the time of year has come for me to start taking the GRE. And I'm gearing up to start applying to schools soon. I'm wanting to get my LCSW afterwards and specialize in working with teenagers in a therapeutic setting. My question is, I'm unsure if I should apply to a UC or just go to a CSU. I'm worried that going to a CSU could make it difficult for me to get a job afterwards. What's everyone's opinion on this?
